Cheap Hotels in Wanaka

"Reached a day late to check in as there was road closure due to the heavy snow at Lindis pass. Called the Motel and Mark our host, was very kind and assured us that the booking will be held on (which was supposedly 3 days 2 night). Mark was also very kind to fetch us from the bus drop off which was downhill as it was quite late and dark around 730pm. The motel is located uphill of a 10-15mins walk to the nearest restaurants and eatery near the lake. The room was cosy and enough for 3 person. Would definitely come back to Wanaka and stay with them for a longer period."

"This independent studio room within the RV park is quite spacious, and while the soundproofing isn't great, it offers excellent value for money! The kitchen is well-equipped with all the necessary utensils, including salt and pepper, so you can easily cook your own dinner. It has a private toilet and shower, but only soap is provided, so you'll need to bring your own toiletries. The bed is quite comfortable. We visited in mid-May, and it was very cold, but there was an electric heater and two electric blankets, although one of them wasn't working. There are very few power outlets. You can park your car right in front of the unit. There's a laundry room in another nearby area, costing 6 NZD per wash and 6 NZD for 60 minutes of drying. There's also a communal kitchen. The location is right in the city center, with many restaurants nearby. It's very close to Wanaka Tree and the lake, both within walking distance."

"The hotel environment is great, with a quiet surroundings and beautiful scenery. It's also conveniently located for driving to Lake Wanaka and the city center. The staff were enthusiastic, and my check-in experience was very good. The room itself was clean and comfortable, with most facilities available, although some showed a little wear and tear. Overall, it offers good value for money, making it suitable for self-driving trips and holidays."

"The environment is absolutely stunning, right by the lake. When you draw the curtains, you're greeted with beautiful views of Lake Wanaka and the snowy mountains, plus adorable ducks that visit daily. We were even allowed to check in early, which was very kind of the staff to arrange since there was an available room – much appreciated! However, some of the facilities felt a bit poorly designed. First, the bed was too small; we barely dared to turn over for fear of falling off. Second, the bathroom fan and the outdoor AC unit were quite noisy. Those sensitive to low-frequency sounds might need earplugs to sleep. Also, the trash can was tiny, so if you have multiple people, remember to bring extra garbage bags. On weekends, it seemed like there might have been a staff shortage for cleaning, as our room wasn't made up until nearly 3 PM. Overall, it was still a pleasant stay, and I'm grateful for the hotel's service."

"The accommodation in Alpine Motel is comfortable for 4 of us. However, the kitchen amenities are not complete. Adding on a colander, kitchen paper, aluminium foil would be helpful. No proper knives for cutting meats but when we asked from the manager, Bridgette, she immediately understood our requirements & passed 1 over. Thanks to Bridgette & Rosey who replaced 1 of our electric bed heater that was not working. Appreciate their quick response & excellent service. 👍 The location of this motel is very near to New World supermarket, Puzzling World, Wanaka Lake, Three Parks etc. highly recommended for all who visits Wanaka."

"Haka House is a national chain in New Zealand. You can park for free on the street outside. The bedding is good and comfortable to sleep in. It's a shame that the king room has two beds pushed together, so it's easy to slip into the gap in the middle, which is a bit inconvenient. It's close to Real Gun and the Lonely Tree, and Red Super is also nearby. The kitchen is decent, and the dining area is very warm with a fireplace. The decor is cozy, and the staff are patient."

"This place is like a hostel in a small town, about a 10-15 minute walk from where the Intercity bus drops you off. I arrived early and couldn't check in yet, but I was able to store my luggage. Be aware that there's no elevator to the second floor, so you'll need to carry your bags up yourself. Surprisingly, the room had an electric blanket! Though it wasn't very cold when I was there, so I didn't need it. There's no fridge in the room; if you need to chill drinks, you'll have to use the large fridge in the laundry room. There's a small restaurant next to the front desk. I remember seeing a lot of people chatting there in the evening, mostly Chinese travelers sharing tips. You can help yourself to coffee, hot cocoa, orange juice, etc., in the restaurant anytime. Breakfast was prepared by a lovely lady; her maple pancakes were absolutely delicious! She was also incredibly patient and helpful. I asked her about getting a taxi to Roy's Peak, and she even helped call one for me. She thoughtfully reminded us to note down the taxi's number and the hotel's address for the return trip. (Here's a side note: as the taxi approached Roy's Peak, the driver, a kind lady, thoughtfully asked if we knew which number to call for the return trip. After I confirmed I did, she patiently asked if my phone had a local SIM or if I was roaming. She then explained that if roaming, I'd need to dial the New Zealand country code first. She was truly wonderful!)"

"Very impressive and clean facilities. Didn't feel like a hostel. The huge kitchen was very well equipped with many microwaves, stove, etc. Even air-fryer ! Cutlery and cookware are top-notch and well-organized. The fridge has clear instructions. Free food from past guests were organized accordingly. Dining area and lounge area are like cafe setting ! The washing machine and drying machine are easy to use. Staff was very kind to assist as I inserted wrong coin into the wrong slot and was refunded the money. Highly recommended !!! New World supermarket is so conveniently next door. There's an open car park next to the park behind the hostel. Can park for free !"

"At first glance, the place seems lovely and inviting. However, on closer inspection, there are quite a few maintenance issues that need attention. Several lights weren’t working (only about 2 out of 5), the carpet wasn’t as clean as it initially appeared, and there was mould in the shower. There are also signs of wear such as plastering around the sink, and the hairdryer made an unhealthy noise when used. The toilet bolts were loose, which was concerning. The bathroom lacks an extractor fan, so it becomes very steamy. The shower head is quite small with low pressure. While there is an outdoor area, it doesn’t offer much privacy as the motel is right on the road. Parking is available on-site, which is a plus, but there are no laundry facilities. There is a makeshift kitchenette with a toaster, microwave, kettle, fridge, and basic cutlery and crockery. However, it’s not suitable for cooking proper meals, and the lack of a sink makes washing up or even filling the kettle inconvenient. On the positive side, the location is excellent—right next to a New World supermarket and very central. Overall, the place is reasonably clean, tidy, and comfortable, but it would benefit from some maintenance."

"- host was really friendly and approachable. - carpark was first come first served. if carpark is full, there’s parallel street parking beside the motel. - cookware and cutlery were dirty so we had to wash everything before use. - we were located on the second floor, had to carry our luggage up the stairs. - 10 minutes walk to Lake Wanaka. 5-10 minutes walk to supermarket."
