"The main building for check-in is really close to JR station. Just exit, go straight, turn left after you see Lawson, and then another left at the intersection. It's about 400 meters. The hotel is spread out in several areas. After check-in, the staff told us our villa was another 10-minute walk away. Luckily, there's a shuttle service both ways. It meant we were quite a distance from the onsen, but that was okay since we'd already had plenty of hot spring baths on our trip.
I was pleasantly surprised by the villa's location – it was fantastic! Tucked away in an alley near the shopping street along the canal. The space was huge and well-equipped, and having an entire standalone villa was incredibly comfortable. I didn't encounter any of the issues other reviewers mentioned, so I'm very satisfied!"

"This is a comfortable boutique hotel in Otaru. The room is cozy with the barrel the most interesting feature that doubles up as a table and a fridge. The buckwheat pillow is comfortable for a good night rest. What impressed me the most is the breakfast. There is a wide array of food including seafood and fresh milk. Onsen is comfortable too. Overall I will strongly recommend this hotel in Otaru as it’s still new and tip top service and amenities."

"The rooms were reasonably spacious and clean. However, the breakfast selection was quite limited. At checkout, I repeatedly mentioned that one of the rooms had an 11-year-old child. According to the rules, if they charge 100 JPY per person per day for the hot spring and 200 JPY for accommodation, then the child should be exempt from the hot spring fee for all three days of our stay. Unfortunately, the staff completely ignored my explanation."

"We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 children, and the room was perfect for us. The room had 4 beds and windows, which made it spacious, bright, and comfortable.
The hotel is in a very good location, making it convenient to get around and visit nearby attractions. The beds were comfortable, and the room was clean and cozy.
We especially enjoyed the bathtub. It was a great way to relax after a long day, and our children loved it as well.
Overall, we really liked this hotel and had a pleasant stay. We would definitely recommend it to families looking for a comfortable hotel in a good location."

"Otaru is definitely worth a one-night stay.
There are three shopping streets, not just the single few-hundred-meter canal often mentioned in travel guides.
The Sankaku Seafood Market to the left of the station looks much more appetizing than many other places.
Heavy snowfall actually makes it less ideal for exploring all of Otaru.
The hotel offers a candlelight performance at night, which sets a romantic mood. Paying an extra 200 for that isn't unreasonable.
Hotel downside: The room has a lot of motion-sensor lights. If you get up half-asleep at night, they suddenly all switch on, making it as bright as day. You can't turn them off; you just have to wait for them to go out on their own."

"Honestly the only praise to give to this hotel is the staff attitude and the location which is near the canal. The staffs were-Helpful and dedicated .
I can accept the hotel is old and not so spacious. But one thing I really can’t take it is the level of the bathroom. I can’t understand why the level is so high. We need to step a big leap to climb in order to get into the bathroom. Also to get into the bathtub to stand to shower was dangerous too. It was unbelievable deep. I almost fell.
This hotel is really not suitable for elderly people. And need to pay extra careful attention when you climb to the bathroom and to the bathtub.
Sometimes I do not understand why can’t just list out that you would need to collect onsen tax. If I know I need to pay for that I would not want to choose this hotel. Because I do not go for the onsen."

Since we were on a road trip, having the car parked right outside our room was a huge plus. The hotel's location is excellent – lively but quiet, with absolutely no noise at night.
Even though it's a self-service hotel, a staff member helped us during check-in, and they cleared snow every morning. I stayed for five nights, and the room was cleaned after the third night. The hotel amenities were plentiful, with unlimited bath towels and pajamas provided, and even a hair straightener in the room.
The staff were very thoughtful. When it was cold, they would turn on the heating while I was out, so I'd come back to a warm room. There were also extra blankets in the room, perfect for lounging on the sofa.
My biggest worry before checking in was that the shower wouldn't have hot enough water, but that was completely unfounded – the hot water was super hot!
Overall, there's absolutely nothing to complain about. It's fantastic, and I'll definitely stay here again on my next road trip."

"Facilities: The hotel is quite old, and while the facilities are in good condition, they aren't exactly modern. Surprisingly, there's a vintage audio system that plays music with a great ambiance from a bygone era. The sound quality also has that classic feel, which I loved. It's definitely worth experiencing this unique charm that other hotels don't offer.
Service: Standard hotel service, but they upgraded my room without me even asking, which was a nice touch!
Transportation: Even though the hotel is on a mountaintop, they offer a shuttle service to the nearest JR station, which is a huge plus. The Otaru Aquarium is just a few steps away, and the dolphin show is fantastic, plus the penguins are adorable.
Scenery: This hotel probably boasts the most unique coastal cliff views in Otaru. It's truly postcard-worthy, and the best part is being able to enjoy it while soaking in the hot spring during the day. The scenery is beautiful and enjoyable. At night, however, you can't see anything.
Hygiene: Standard hotel cleanliness.
Food: I only stayed overnight and didn't try the food."
