"Very nice hotel, kind and helpful staff, great view, good food, spa (sauna and Turkish bath). Perfect for a few days of rest. Only two disadvantages were the taste of coffee for breakfast (only instant coffee) and not very thick walls (you can hear the neighboring rooms a bit). Paid parking lot (0,80 EUR/h, from 8 am to 7 pm - in the street, 10 EUR/day - parking garage in the building opposite the hotel), but you can always park for free about 500 m from the hotel, in the upper part of town."

"I like this hotel. Yes, the decor is a bit dated, but so what; the rooms are large, warm in appearance and comfortable, which is also "dated" when you think about it. The staff are friendly and knowledgable. The location is spectacular and quiet. You are so far above the sea, you can't even really hear it, but you get some stunning sunsets. A car is almost a must, unless you are planning to do nothing, or just hike in the immediate area (which is entirely possible). The food ranges from good to okay, but the buffets have many options. Choose between indoor (heated) or outdoor pool. In warmer weather, the generous patio would be great. Parking is tight, but that's true just about everywhere in Madeira. One caveat: our mattress was very firm – much too firm for me (my wife was okay with it). My solution was to take one of the wool blankets, fold it and place it under the sheet, which helped a little."

"We had a really lovely stay at the Quinta. We were so well looked after, particularly as our flight was delayed and we had to find our way late at night. Monica was especially thoughtful but everyone was lovely throughout the week. Our little cottage was delightful and also cosy on the days that the weather wasn’t so clement. The restaurant was great too and we really enjoyed the variety of vegetarian meals on offer."

"The Calheta Beach Hotel is located in a picturesque spot, right by a small beach with a view of the ocean. However, it is clear that the hotel’s best days are behind it. Both the building and the interiors are in need of renovation—visibly dated and lacking modern touches. Catering primarily to Western European retirees The hotel clearly caters to an older clientele, mostly retirees from Germany and the UK. Families with small children may feel somewhat unwelcome here. We were accommodated in the second row of buildings, away from the main hotel facilities, which made us feel a bit isolated from the core of the resort. Staff and service Most of the staff were friendly, kind, and helpful—especially the housekeeping team, who were discreet, polite, and always smiling. Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant experience with the front desk. Despite having prepaid for parking, the receptionist refused to issue me a card for multiple entries and exits, which caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. Room and amenities The room itself was acceptable, though not up to modern four-star standards. A significant downside was the lack of a coffee machine and no option to stock or order a minibar—something that was particularly inconvenient during a longer stay. ⸻ Summary Calheta Beach may be a good choice for older guests looking for peace and quiet, beach proximity, and reasonable prices. However, families with children may feel overlooked, and more demanding guests may be disappointed by the lack of basic amenities. The location and the kindness of most staff members are strong points, but the hotel clearly needs renovation and a more inclusive approach to different types of guests."

"The staff at this hotel were excellent. The location high on the clifftop is superb. Breakfast is full international They run 'open seating for breakfast and dinner. Dinner is buffet style - the choice is very good. They have an indoor and outdoor swimming pools. Car parking by the hotel is difficult but there is a good parking area about 300m up the hill. Our biggest problem was the lack of air conditioning anywhere in the hotel. I think this is unacceptable in a modern hotel in 2023. It was hot - 34C+ in the day and the south-facing rooms get very hot in the afternoon. Reception suggested we leave the patio doors open when sleeping!!"
