Leo25This place was a dream.
Jia & Tong are lovely people with good taste. Travelling on my own and having little idea of what to do in the area (due to lacking Chinese language skills), Jia was super helpful with recommendations and arrangements. I only had one day but he managed to make arrangements in such a way that I saw another beautiful old Dong village that wasn’t too touristy as well as the stunning rice-field sunset.
I felt like I could even just spend the day watching the view from the balcony whilst drinking the amazing tea. But instead I had a great day and even rounded it off chatting in great company and trying some local drinks. The local people are creative, super friendly and some have a great sense of humour ;) I’ve hardly ever felt so taken care of, so safe, and with so much fun.
All the amenities are high quality, the sheets felt like 100% cotton (which is very rare across China I found!) The designs are great using local materials. And yes, the bath is great too! I forgot to ask for local shopping recommendations, which I am sure they must have as they have some beautiful items in the rooms and in the social area.
I very much hope to visit again soon. It feels like an area and a place full of people I would love to get to know better.

The housekeeper proactively called us before check-in to add us on WeChat, and they responded to messages instantly. They were warm and polite. The pickup vehicle and driver were also waiting on time, providing excellent service. The room was clean and tidy, the bathroom glass door was sparkling, and the view from the window was lovely. The toiletries in the room were comprehensive, all from good brands, and they even provided a disposable bathtub liner, alcohol spray, laundry detergent, and moisturizing spray. The safety measures were also top-notch; it was my first time seeing a room equipped with not only full fire safety facilities but also an escape rope. The breakfast was well-balanced and delicious. Most importantly, the price was affordable, and it's pet-friendly with no extra cleaning fees! I truly hope this generous guesthouse expands and thrives, opening more locations in other places to give pet-owning road trippers like us more options. Please don't let those who try to take advantage and lack manners ruin your spirit. Just a small suggestion: put up two signs at the turn-off for the hotel, and add a few lights on the uphill path, as it's very dark walking back at night and easy to miss which turn it is!

Guest UserTraveling to Zhaoxing Dong Village during the off-season, I stumbled upon Zhaoxing No. 1 Boutique Homestay, and it was truly a delightful surprise! The overall quality and attentive service are absolutely on par with five-star standards – an amazing experience. Especially their breakfast rice noodles, they were so authentic and flavorful, I was hooked after one bite, absolutely delicious. My stay was comfortable and peaceful, I genuinely and highly recommend it. Next time I visit the Dong Village, this will definitely be my first choice again!

This guesthouse is absolutely amazing! The windows are huge, offering a fantastic view of green terraced fields outside, and the air is incredibly fresh.
The location of the guesthouse is superb, with a convenient shuttle service. It's right in the heart of the Dong village, just a few steps from the lively main street, where you'll find all sorts of unique shops and food stalls. It's super easy to pick up souvenirs or try local delicacies. Yet, despite being so central, the guesthouse itself is a peaceful oasis; it's wonderfully quiet at night, completely undisturbed by any outside noise.
And the service? The staff are all incredibly warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home. When we checked in, the front desk gave us a detailed guide to exploring the Dong village, recommending many lesser-known but beautiful photo spots and local eateries that only residents would know about. During our stay, they were always quick to respond to any requests, which was really thoughtful. The room itself was spotless, very cozy, with comfortable bedding and all the necessary amenities – a truly comfortable stay.
All in all, whether it's the location or the service, this guesthouse is impeccable. It added so many wonderful memories to my trip to Zhaoxing Dong Village. I'll definitely choose to stay here again next time!

Guest UserSharing my personal experience:
Spur of the moment decision for a May Day road trip to Guizhou, with Zhaoxing Dong Village as our first stop.
The B&B contacted us in advance to confirm our arrival time. They offer pick-up and drop-off service from the high-speed train station/scenic area entrance. Since we drove, we parked at the scenic area entrance, and after a few minutes' walk through ticket verification, they picked us up. The pick-up vehicle was a private car, and the staff member carried our luggage the whole way. It was a five-minute drive to the village entrance, then a 10-minute walk to the B&B.
The last few minutes involved an uphill climb, but they helped with the luggage, so I personally didn't mind. Unless you're an elderly person who struggles with stairs, there's really nothing to complain about. The views from the top are excellent. The B&B is located slightly behind the center of the main street, making it very quiet at night. As for soundproofing, we went to bed quite late, and there was hardly any noise.
On the way, the staff member gave us basic information about the village. It didn't matter that we hadn't planned anything; he offered suggestions based on our arrival time, the weather, and our travel goals, which I really appreciated (a day is definitely enough for this village).
Breakfast: We woke up at 10 AM, and after asking, the staff member saved breakfast for us. We also requested to have it delivered to our room, which they accommodated – very satisfied with this.
Regarding the room: The decor isn't luxurious, but it's very clean, and you can tell they maintain high cleaning standards. Using the bathtub cover can be a bit cumbersome, but it's usable. The bedding was my favorite – very comfortable. For a B&B, I think cleanliness is key, and I'm not overly picky.
They provided complimentary fruit, and the water was VOSS. The toiletries were excellent; the shampoo felt very natural, and the dental kit was good too. Much better than the ones at Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village the next day; I should have taken some, but I forgot.
Before departure, they would ask for our approximate leaving time in advance and arrange transport to the station. They would also help send our luggage to a station outside the scenic area, so we could just go explore. After exploring, we'd walk to the village entrance, and the car would already be there – very convenient. (I even asked the owner to chill some fruit for me, so I didn't have to go back for it when leaving; everything was arranged perfectly).
The price we booked was 1350, due to the May Day peak season. For this price, the hardware facilities were decent, but what left the deepest impression on me was the overall experience. From check-in to check-out, every staff member we encountered had a constant, warm smile. Even the auntie who cooked breakfast was very friendly, making the start of our holiday very pleasant. I rarely write reviews and rarely stay in B&Bs. No one asked me for a good review when we checked out, so I'm writing this to express my gratitude.
We arrived at 7 PM and checked out at 2 PM the next day. We watched a performance, ate sour soup fish, and did a travel photoshoot – it was perfect. Definitely worth experiencing.

Ambience: The room window overlooks a beautiful rice paddy field. The location is quiet at the end of the village, making it convenient for visiting Tang'an.
Cleanliness: Clean, no odors.
Service: Excellent. The included shuttle service is extremely convenient. Before your arrival, the customer service will provide recommendations for local food and attractions, as well as some travel tips. The breakfast is good, and the coffee is delicious. The first load of minibar items is free.
It's a perfect place to relax and unwind; it's very relaxing.

A Dong Village Stay Impressed by Details and Care - Yunman Shanju
Choosing Yunman Shanju for my stay in Zhaoxing Dong Village truly exceeded my expectations! I heard the new Yunnan B&B owner team took over in May and it had only been open for a little over 20 days. I was prepared to give it a try, but the result has truly moved me to write this review, the first time I've ever been so attentive and so touching!
The service was truly exceptional:
After booking on Ctrip, I added the owner on WeChat and sent him my itinerary. The owner called to confirm my arrival time as soon as I arrived. The high-speed train chartered car was already waiting. The B&B is also very close to the village entrance, so I didn't have to walk far with my suitcases. The owner and his family immediately helped with my luggage, instantly relieving my travel fatigue.
We were even given a free room upgrade upon check-in! This pleasant surprise truly made me like him.
Most importantly, the owner was genuinely willing to chat and engage with guests, going beyond the usual politeness. You could sense that he genuinely listened to their feedback and suggestions, a truly comforting gesture. The attention to detail in the food and accommodations is evident:
Breakfast is warm and authentic: Mornings on the fifth-floor terrace, offering the best views of the entire village, beneath the eaves of the unique drum tower, watch the entire Dong village awaken in the morning light. Enjoying handmade noodles brought in from Yunnan by the owner, paired with sweet and juicy corn and free-range eggs grown in the local Dong village, the satisfying and refreshing feeling is enough to motivate me to finish my meal even after a long night.
Afternoon tea: Their homemade bayberry soup, with its sweet and sour taste, is a welcome relief on a hot summer afternoon, far superior to street vendors!
”Living water” is the soul of the homestay: The most surprising thing is that the homestay is located next to an ancient well used by local residents for generations! The homestay uses the clear, sweet well water for tea, drinking, and even cooking. I used it to brew the Yunnan Pu'er tea the owner shared with me. It was incredibly flavorful, with a distinct aftertaste that even plain water had a natural sweetness. This experience of deeply connecting with local life was so unique and precious that I, someone who never drinks raw Pu'er, drank it for two days straight!
A comfortable and stylish stay:
Excellent soundproofing and good sleep: The rooms are well-insulated, ensuring a quiet, quality night's sleep even in the Dong village.
Quality details are meticulously considered: My room had floor-to-ceiling windows and a small balcony, offering a wide view of the Drum Tower in the distance, perfect for daydreaming and relaxing. Even the toiletries, such as shower gel and shampoo, are the owner's own brand, not cheap, generic goods, making them incredibly reliable.
The B&B's public areas are a treasure: The rooms and public areas are uniquely designed and decorated, both stylish and full of local cultural charm. The public area on the first floor, spanning over 200 square meters, offers a quiet space for reading, daydreaming, or making a cup of tea. When the owner is free, he'll sit down and personally brew tea with sweet well water. His Yunnan Pu'er, in particular, has a sweet, refreshing aftertaste that I still savor.
An unexpected staycation:
Guizhou's summers are hot. I had originally planned to explore extensively, but, aside from a visit to the Tang'an Rice Terraces, I ended up staying mostly at the B&B! Amazingly, I didn't feel bored at all. I admired the scenery from the terrace, sat in the stylishly designed first floor, brewed tea with sweet well water, read, and chatted. The guests who frequented the B&B were mostly Cantonese, which made it feel so welcoming, haha! This B&B itself offers a rich, comfortable, and stylish space that invites you to slow down.
What impressed me about Yunman Shanju wasn't its luxury, but the genuine care and warmth, as well as its sincere respect and integration into local culture. It gave me a taste of what a B&B should be.
Since I booked two rooms, my friend felt the same way! I'm speaking for her... Since there are two posts, I'll share more photos too.

Guest UserGreat hotel, perfectly located in the front area of Zhaoxing village. The staff is very helpful and friendly. There’s even a coffee bar at the reception (which is rare in China) and something that I enjoyed a lot. The rooms are nice and clean, although not very spacious. But that was no issue for us. We absolutely enjoyed our stay and would book there again when we come back for another trip!

The natural wood interior feels warm and cozy, and the lush greenery creates a serene and elegant atmosphere. It's perfect for sitting back with a cup of tea, escaping the hustle and bustle.
