Depot 195 - Hostel Winterthur
"Depot 195 is an excellent choice if you’re going to Winterthur, or even Zurich, which is about 30 minutes away by train. Trains run very regularly and the hostel is an easy 10 minute walk from the station. Trains go in all directions, so it’s a great base for exploring the region. BTW Don’t miss Stein am Rein - it’s incredible! Depot 195 is immaculately clean, and the staff are very proactive in keeping it that way. They take great pride in their hostel and clearly love working there. Alex on the front desk was great at suggesting places to see and things to do in the region, and David, the manager, was really helpful and accommodating when I arrived very early. The kitchen is well appointed, spacious, very clean, well organised and has everything you need. It’s also a friendly place where people chat and get to know each other - that doesn’t happen in all hostels. I stayed in a female dorm room and it was bright, airy and really big for 6 people. The bed was very comfortable and it had a good light and power set into a wall shelf. The bathrooms were spotless and the showers were really great. Most hostels I’ve stayed in (many!) have good aspects and some not-so-good aspects, but I have absolutely only good things to say about Depot 195 - I can’t fault a single thing! Thanks for having me, I was sad to leave!"

"Nice geographical location, walking distance to the railway station and surrounded by several supermarkets. However, I was shocked when I was told that gym service was not included in the rates. For the first time in my life did I realize that gym is provided to selected guests. This experience is def “new” and unpleasant. Given that there are many other hotels nearby, I don’t think I will recommend this hotel to my friends."

"Warning! Don't be fooled by the hotel's own website. I find the positive reviews on other portals incomprehensible. We arrived with four people and were appalled by the cleanliness of this hotel. The entrance area itself made a dirty and unkempt impression. In front of the door was a table with two chairs, which presumably served as a smoking area. The "red carpet" in front of the entrance door hadn't been vacuumed in months. In the "reception," which resembles a kiosk, we were greeted by a slightly annoyed and overwhelmed young lady. We were hit by the smell of snack bars and room fragrances. The rooms are dirty, the shelves dusty, the carpet stained, the toilet brush hasn't been changed in months—just disgusting. At least the bed was freshly made. The room constantly smelled of room fragrance. When we asked why we only had towels for one person in the double room, we were told that spare towels were in the wardrobe on top of the safe, which was completely incomprehensible to us and even then there weren't enough of them. We were hoping for at least a good breakfast, but the walk to the breakfast room alone was an adventure. After calling to ask where breakfast was because the reception was not yet open, we had to go up to the 3rd floor and then take the stairs to the 4th floor (not wheelchair accessible). Once there (which looked like a shared kitchen in a shared apartment), we were greeted by an employee wearing flip-flops and a dirty T-shirt. The table hadn't been wiped down by previous occupants, and the floor was covered in breadcrumbs. Breakfast costs 20 CHF and offers little choice, and it's very poorly prepared. The coffee from the vending machine was OK. The hotel feels like a run-down hostel. The claim "Discover an oasis of hospitality and modern elegance at the Plaza Hotel Winterthur" is simply not true, and the hotel photos don't reflect the actual reality. The only positive aspect is the hotel's central location. Absolutely not recommended!"
