They provide a shuttle service, so please ask them. Since it's located in a forest-like area, ants and spiders tend to get into the room. It's a bit disappointing that you can't easily go to the hot spring town."

"The inn is exquisitely decorated, with a classic, elegant style. It's spotless and tidy, and the rooms are filled with Japanese charm; even the lamps and telephones are reusable vintage items, which is quite unique. The men's and women's hot spring baths are alternated for guests' use. There's also a separate open-air bath, which is very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were delicious, beautifully presented, and the service was attentive. I would love to stay here again if I had the chance to return."

Ryokan Tsuruya

"Our lodging in Bessho Onsen was "Ryokan Tsuruya," a rather retro hot spring inn founded in the Genroku period of the Edo period. However, the cuisine is highly acclaimed, and the hot spring water is 100% natural spring water, so we booked it. The low price was also quite attractive... The gabled building's exterior is beautiful. This time, we reserved a Japanese-style room with 10-12 tatami mats. The room is retro, full of Showa-era charm, but it's kept clean and comfortable. The shoji screen decorations and alcove design are wonderful. The black telephone and CRT TV are full of retro charm. There's also a toilet and sink in the room. The hot spring water is 100% natural spring water, with no added water, so the landlady warned us, "Be careful, it's hot," but for me, it was just the right temperature. The open-air bath was a little cooler, but it was also comfortable. It had a sulfurous scent and the water quality was excellent. There is also a free private bath, but since we were staying on a weekday and only four groups were staying, we didn't meet anyone in the hot spring. Meals at Tsuruya Ryokan are served in your room. The menu included Shinshu salmon sashimi, carp simmered in sweet syrup, earthenware pot steamed dishes, and A5-grade beef shabu-shabu. It wasn't flashy, but it was delicious♪ Dessert was fruit compote. It was a very satisfying dinner. Breakfast was also served in the room. It was a little simple, with simmered simmered dishes, salad, whitebait, hot springs*, etc., but maybe this is fine. I prefer this kind of nostalgic, rustic inn to a half-renovated inn!"
