Hotelpark Bodetal Mit Ferienwohnungen
"In short: We spent an entire night in temperatures just above freezing with our 19-month-old daughter. It was freezing cold and drafty because otherwise the stench would have been unbearable. Driving home in heavy snowfall was out of the question for us at that hour. And what shouldn't be forgotten is that this wasn't exactly cheap accommodation. At over €400 for two nights, or €550 with breakfast, you can expect a clean room and, even more importantly, own up to mistakes and face the consequences, namely refunding money that was wrongly withheld because the service wasn't provided. To be more detailed: I primarily want to distance myself from negative reviews simply because people are surprised that an outdoor pool isn't open in winter. I definitely don't fall into that category. However, what my family and I experienced at the Hotelpark Bodetal in early January 2026 is hard to stomach. In forty years of traveling, I've never experienced anything like it. But let's jump back in time together. It was a relatively spontaneous trip for my wife's birthday with our 19-month-old daughter. Having found and booked through ***********, we set off full of anticipation for Thale and the Hotelpark Bodetal on a snowy, cold January day. Everything seemed relaxed at the hotel. We checked into our room in House 8, ground floor, in the afternoon and immediately experienced a nasty surprise. Upon entering the room, we were hit with a musty, cheesy smell. "Well," I thought, "it's cold." Visually, the room looked quite dated, but okay, perhaps the cleaning product had lingered. So, we aired it out thoroughly. Nevertheless, I informed the rather overweight man at reception that the room smelled bad. He evaded the issue by saying that no cleaning staff were currently available, but assured us that the room would be cleaned again the following day. For the time being, I left it at that. Despite repeated offers to experience the smell in the room himself, the gentleman refused to leave the reception desk. Presumably, his work motivation is linked to his interest in physical activity. Since our little one loves water, we promptly went to the Bodetal thermal baths. Upon our return, and despite leaving the windows slightly open for cross-ventilation in the freezing cold, we were greeted upon entering the apartment by our roommate again: the putrid, cheesy stench. I put my nose to work and, with some effort and a bit of patience, managed to locate the suspected culprit in the kitchen. It was lodged in the kitchen sink drain and the overflow of the cutlery tray, as you can see in the attached photos. As is clearly visible in the photos, the culprit in the cutlery tray drain, in particular, had been there for weeks, if not months."

"Our stay at this otherwise beautiful hotel turned into a nightmare due to a faulty smoke alarm. Three times during the night, we were jolted awake by the alarm’s piercing sound. Each time, we prepared to evacuate with our children, only to find it was a false alarm. With no staff available and the reception closed, our night's rest was ruined. Desperately, we tried contacting the booking company’s 24/7 support, but even they couldn’t reach anyone at the hotel. This resulted in a sleepless night as we anxiously stayed awake, worried about the repeated alarms' cause. The next morning, we finally spoke to the owner, who attributed the false alarms to sudden changes in air pressure – an unsatisfactory excuse. Fortunately, after discussions between the booking company and the owner, we received full compensation for our stay. However, this did not make up for the sleepless night and sense of insecurity we experienced. Future guests should ensure they get an "In Case of Emergency" number from the owner before going to bed. No one should endure the terror we did, and an emergency number could be crucial for a safe night's sleep. This is a small step to ensure peace of mind during your stay. It is disappointing that a hotel with such potential in beautiful surroundings can fail so critically in terms of safety and customer service. This ordeal is something we would prefer to forget but will, unfortunately, linger in our memories."

"We stayed here 3 days and it's not a cheap hotel, small room, toilet etc. Then you have to inform the reception regarding cleaning, it's not enough to hang your "ready for cleaning " sign on your door, we only had breakfast here, first morning was alright, the chef was ready to make eggs as you ordered, the next 2 days was a different staff, there wasn't any service at all, prioritising to prepare trays for guests having breakfast in their rooms, instead of serving the guests, that actually eat the restaurant, arrogance in my opinion. We will not return to this hotel again."

Hotel Villa Alice
"Villa Alice. When you hear this name, who doesn't immediately think of the wondrous place of “Alice in Wonderland”? And this is exactly the image we want to capture. Our stay at Villa Alice during our short vacation was actually like a little wonderland. Be it the open-minded and warm-hearted nature of the owners and employees, who almost gave you the feeling of a small family, through to the cozy and very clean rooms. We didn't miss anything during our stay and if we did, we were able to talk about it openly and everything was made possible. You could start the day with a rich and very balanced breakfast, which gave you strength for upcoming hikes to the Hexentanzplatz or the Rosstrappe. The forest was practically right outside the door! The day was rounded off with a really good dinner in our own restaurant. The food was really delicious and just visiting the restaurant would be worth it! We found the private wellness evening followed by a 3-course menu to be particularly pleasant, where the entire wellness area, including sauna and whirlpool, was available to us for around 2 hours in private and without any other guests. With candles, beautiful music and a bottle of Prosecco you could just unwind there. We would like to thank you for the wonderful time and wish Villa Alice all the best! Stay as you are and see you soon! Kind regards from Tom & Tom. :-)"
