"Lovely renovated rooms, comfy bed, lovely bathroom. However, don't stay here if you aren't prepared to lug your luggage up quite a steep flight of stairs. There are around 20 quite steep, carpeted steps with a couple of landings to navigate around. No lift. The walk from the carpark to the hotel is also uphill and up some steps and then a juggle to get the door open to get inside if carrying luggage. I'm pretty fit, but as a fairly recent widow, I no longer have my strong husband to help with such things. I managed to pull a muscle getting it all upstairs and it took 3 trips. Be aware that the rooms, whilst beautifully renovated, roomy and comfortable, contain no toaster, no sink (except the bathroom sink), no microwave, no plates or cutlery. Just 2 teacups with saucers, and 2 teaspoons. No breakfast is available at the hotel so in the morning you need to search the street for a cafe that's open, that serves a fresh breakfast. (We managed to find one which cost another $47 on top of the hotel room price - which is quite hefty). If you need to leave early in the morning, you'll just have to go without breakfast until you come across somewhere that's open. If you bring some cereal etc, thinking you can have breakfast in the room, remember there's no bowls or plates or spoons. You can, however, ask staff for a bowl and cutlery if you think of it the day before, as the hotel isn't open early in the morning. They only serve lunch and dinner (be aware there is the 10% surcharge on Sundays). So if you don't mind all these issues, this is the place for you. I simply couldn't deal with those steps again unfortunately. I couldn't unpack my bags for an hour as I collapsed on the bed when I finally got everything up to my room. I've never felt so fatigued! Many of the missing items we expected to be in the room is probably as its a 'hotel' not a 'motel', but I didn't know the difference and never imagined we'd be without a toaster or a few plates etc. My fault to not have checked all of this so I can't complain too much. Was told I could park my car in one of the old undercover carports out the back, but my car didn't fit in there. I doubt any but smaller vehicles would fit (careful of your external mirrors!). Extremely narrow carports. Otherwise, you can park in the open air carpark behind the hotel. The staff are helpful and personable so I can't fault the service. But it's worth noting the issues mentioned above. If you love retro chic, and don't mind 20 steep stairs and no breakfast, this is the place for you. Unfortunately it didn't suit our needs."

"Wish I'd read some of these reviews before dining. And yes, its as bad as everyone says. For $37 i got a plate with a small reheated chicken leg with a wedge of onion, one baby carrot and a heaped teaspoon of watery potato mash. Nothing was cooked properly, my tummy gurgled for hours afterwards"

Settlers Motor Inn ★★★
"Excellent location, budget accommodation. As I opened up the room, both my kids said the room smelt like Nanna's house. It smelt like the room hadn't been aired out in a very long time. I then decided to turn the air conditioning on to warm the room (it was 6°C outside) The remote control did not work, I checked the batteries (they looked to be swollen and leaking), I swapped the batteries with the tv remote, and the unit worked and we had heat in the room. The shower took forever to get hot. There was no exhaust fan or heater in the bathroom, so everything in there got wet including my clothes from the steam in the shower. The deadbolt for the door was broken, part of the lock that holds the bolt in place was missing. We had to park on the other side of the complex as there was no park for our room nearby. We boiled the kettle to have coffee for breakfast, but there was no milk."
