"Very nice comfortable facilities located directly above a few fantastic restaurants. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate requests. Very central location to this lovely town. Rooms are smaller as it’s an older building, but are very contemporary and clean."

Sandwick Bay Guest House ★★

📍 30 Millar Rd, Stornoway

"Not an enjoyable visit. Only stayed 45 minutes before deciding to leave. Room was very dated. Needs a complete makeover from the wooden floor to the ceiling. Bathroom (shared) dated back to the 70's. No pre warning of the "big£ dogs the owner delighted in telling us about, in a menacing way. All in all, would not go back and would never recommend to anyone else. I value my friends too much!"

Hebridean Guest House

Hebridean Guest House ★★★★

📍 61 Bayhead Street, Stornoway

"With an early morning flight from Stornoway, I thought I would much rather spend my final night in the Outer Hebrides close by, rather than have quite a long drive from south Harris. I must say that the interaction between owner Linda and her live-in namesake was really welcoming. I was offered a room at the back as I'd read some reviews who had been bothered by traffic noise at the front But I was swayed by the offer of a lovely big room at the front with a comfy settee. The guest house also has a large lounge downstairs with a huge TV. The bathroom was splendid with modern fixtures and nice fluffy towels. I always rate a place's attention to detail by the tea tray - and this was one of the best. Herbal and normal tea, hot chocolate, coffee and some tasty Stornoway shortbread. The wifi, which had supposedly been fixed that very day, didn't work at all in my room, which meant the smart TV wasn't clever at all. What I'd read about the road noise was absolutely right. Not pleasant at all. Especially after the total tranquility of south Harris. With the breakfast chef having not appeared by the time of my early breakfast, lovely Linda set to, scrambling my eggs and grilling sausages and Stornoway black pudding from Charles MacLeod, literally round the corner. But I still prefer Mr. Munro's from Tarbert. Great friendly wee place, but make sure to get a room at the back!"

County Hotel ★★★

📍 12-14 Francis St, Stornoway

"We were booked as part of a tour group with Scotland’s Wild’s and boy I wish we didn’t. The hotel looked nice and that was about it. The water pressure was horrible in the shower, a highland cows spit would be better water pressure, the floor was slanted, the bed was SO WORN in that my wife and I sank in, let alone it was only a small full for two people. The windows had to be jammed open and shut. Don’t even bother trying to get food in the kitchen for breakfast which mind you doesn’t start until 8:30. My wife and I ordered our breakfast and it never came in an hour and we had to just leave empty stomached for our tour. The one bright spot is the nice young lady who helped me with laundry service as we were multiple days in the tour. Location was also good. But if you’re looking for a good bed, with a nice shower and a good nights sleep then this place is not for you."

"The room was small but well-equipped, and it was about a 10-15 minute walk from the cruise ship pier. The castle and museum were just across the river; after crossing the bridge and climbing up the slope, you could reach them. The restaurant downstairs was highly recommended."

"For the solo cyclist this accommodation is close to the main Stornoway shopping area and about 20-25 mins walk from the Lewis Castle estate. The accommodation is also not very far from the Stornoway ferry to Ullapool. The room was comfortable, without having been recently refurbished as other properties across the Outer Hebrides have been. I didn't feel cold in the room and owing to a bout of my IBS - NOT caused by the guest house - I was awake and out of bed for a siginificant portion of the night. The shower space and shower are good, but shared. The toilet also. The dog is intermittanly vocal, but kept apart from the guests, whom I am sure it gives notice of, but with whom I am sure it would prefer to be involved. This being essentially a B&B, your dinner will be out. Stornoway, though, has a number of what I believe are good eateries. There are also a Co-Op and Tesco nearby. "

"Friendly welcome, impeccably clean good sized room at front of house. Previous reviewer has suggested avoiding a front room… yes, a bit of traffic noise at times but we’re not taking trying to sleep beside a motorway. Things quieten down as the evening progresses and then, in the morning, the passing cars help with waking up. Or, maybe, I just had more relaxing whisky than the other guest 😀 Joking apart… a welcoming host, a very comfortable room and bed, substantial breakfast all at a reasonable price within in an easy level 10 - 15 minute walk of the vibrating centre od pf Stornoway. Works for me…"
