B&B Scalea Rooms

"The hotel is very conveniently located: close to the old town and the beach, and a five-minute walk from a large supermarket. The train station is a 20-minute walk away. Although the common areas of the hotel need renovation, my room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped. I felt very comfortable."

Grand Hotel De Rose

"The Grand Hotel de Rose is definitely not grand & barely a 4 star. Our room was nice - a 2 room suite, with 2 balconies & lovely views, but that was about it. They couldn't do laundry with a 24 hour turn-around on a weekday, the lobby bar was always empty & we had to go to the front desk to get ice & water, then they had to go lord knows where to get it for you. Sent on a bit of a goose chase to get a quick dinner down to the beach club by the front desk. She then sent us back up where I had to insist to the front desk that the beach club manager also insisted dinner was being served in the hotel. Then he remembered the it was.. very unattractive bright dining room with limited selection, but the fish was decent. Doors to the rooms are very heavy, old-style & hard to open or lock, so doors were banging all night with people being locked out & babies crying - sound really carries in these halls. Had 2 nights of rough sleep. Breakfast is depressing - only fresh fruit is either rotten or hard. They do have a nice selection of cornetti, but that's about it. Got down to beach club the next day & when we asked for towels, were told we had to go all the way back up to reception to get beach towels - ??? So we did, and then were told there weren't anymore. So we said we'd use our room towels & all of a sudden they found 2 grubby old beach towels for us. Seemed like whatever we asked, the answer was always no, however, there was an older guy on at night and a lady at the desk at checkout that were both much more helpful. The beach is nice and water beautiful, but hotel was just dark & depressing."

"This was a last-minute stop in our itinerary and therefore I did not have especially high expectations. This B and B was much much nicer than what I expected. The host is a lovely man who is very helpful. The room was spacious, modern, functional, and clean. The host was very nice and served us an excellent and customized breakfast. The location is great: 2 minutes from the beach but also 2 minutes from the town where we discovered very nice bars and restaurants. I highly recommend it!"
