"Location was a little out of the main town (20 mins by taxi) but closer to the smaller town (10 mins by taxi) with assortment of shops shops & restaurants. Resort was. very quiet and away from the night life in town. We enjoyed the spacious room with a sea view balcony and the room was clean and air conditioned. Showers, beds were very comfortable. The resort has two main zones and a golf buggy to take you to either side (or a short walk) when required. The beach side resort has an enormous salt water pool complex suitable for kids and adults. Leading on from this pool you can step onto the beach which was quit shallow for quite a way out making for easy splashing in the surf. The other accommodation side has an indoor and outdoor pool and well equiped gym. We arrived in the off season so only one restaurant was open most of our stay - the food was of a high standard with great breakfast. Unfortunately the only bar open during our stay was the cigar bar with frequent smokers making it impossible to enjoy a quiet cocktail most of the time. Overall the stay was very nice and the staff are exceedingly friendly & helpful which made our stay all the better"

"The hotel is in an ok location, although it's not new, it's okay compared to the general level. What I don't like is that FLC's swimming pool is quite deep and dangerous. I swam yesterday afternoon, lost momentum, and almost drowned. reached out to call for rescue, but the staff just stood there watching, ignoring the struggle. Luckily, they tried to struggle but managed to cling to the shore. I don't know if they have been trained to rescue customers when they need help when drowning, or if they let them. He must have stopped breathing to save him... the hotel manager needs to remind the rescue team's working attitude"

"If you’d like to immerse yourself in domestic Vietnamese holiday culture, this is the place to go. Sam Son isn’t exactly geared for westerners like some other north Vietnam coastal destinations, but if you can handle being a bit on the edge, keep reading. Yes, it’s a 3hr drive from Hanoi, but hire cars are a reasonably priced option to get you there. It’s totally worth it if you’re the type to leave your expectations behind and just want something different to experience. Van Chai has a few rough edges, but really just a beautiful setting with heaps of rustic charm and character. The accommodations are probably sub-3 star to a westerner, but the experience is 5 star, due to the amenities, service and food. We were a bit critical about some of its shortfalls for the first few days (we stayed 9), then we found ourselves falling in love with it. Everyone is so friendly and, well, if you like seafood, you’ll probably not want to leave. The seafood here is insane (coming from an Aussie who lives in a fishing town). Just remember to leave your expectations behind, stay at least a week, get a massage or 3 and forget about the world you left behind. Perhaps avoid local school holidays 😁 also, the local beaches aren’t great, but the on-site pools are. Special mention to Thuy who made sure our every need was attended to 💕"
