This manager should be ashamed of himself. I booked a room quite a long time ago to ensure I got the best price (and it was a great price)! I show up the night of my reservation and check in. Upon checking in I see that there is a light outside in the motel hallway DIRECTLY above my window. The light is intensely bright and is malfunctioning - it has a rapid flashing strobe effect. Even with the blackout curtains, the strobe light flashes in the room - absolutely no way anyone can sleep through that. I return to the front desk to discuss the problem. He tells me that the light has been broken for some time and he can’t fix it for the night so I can sleep. I then ask if he can move me to a different room, and he says he can, but there will be a $20 up charge to move me. Yes, that’s right, he has neglected maintenance and in order to get a reasonable room to sleep in, he wants me to pay an extra $20. How crooked can you get. As if that’s not enough, the hotel was about 20-30% full (basing this on the number of vehicles in the lot). He had plenty of open rooms that he could have moved me to, but chose to force me to pay extra for the property’s negligence. Horrible situation. I called Choice Hotels directly (being a Platinum Member) and they contacted him directly. He refused to even work with Choice when they called (what I was told on the phone). I do have a formal complaint started with Choice, so we will see what happens. I switched to a different hotel nearby (there are plenty). It was a good move. The EconoLodge was very dirty, furniture was beat and old, and the bedspread had stains all over it. Walls were all marked up, too, and there were dead bugs on the ac unit. See my photos I took before leaving. It was disgusting - so maybe not staying there was a blessing in disguise. I wish I could include the video of the flashing light outside. Everyone I have sent it to can’t believe that they would charge me to move from that nonsense. I would stay clear of this place. It was a nightmare situation, and the staff/manger was completely shifty and not at all concerned with customer care. I travel the country extensively with my work and family vacations, and I report to TripAdvisor on EVERY hotel I stay at - good and bad. I use TripAdvisor for my own bookings, and give back to the community with my honest and accurate reviews. You can trust that they are truthful and honest to my experience.

Upon entering the room you could smell the mold and stale smoke. I went to the bathroom and realized the urine on the toilet, and the lime backup from not being cleaned. Hairs everywhere. I went to the front desk immediately and requested a different room. I was told there weren't any more available rooms (although the parking lot was bare), I then requested a Housekeeper to come clean the room so I could let my child play. She stated there weren't any available at that time. (it was 2:30pm!!!) I then asked what could be done about the room and filthiness of it and she stated I could take my business elsewhere!?!? I requested a refund for the $72.00 I had paid plus the $100.00 deposit and was told that it was non-refundable!! Upon leaving, my husband went to get the deposit (paid in cash) and he was told that we forfeited the deposit when we smoked in the room?!?! Unbelievable! 2 days afterwards I had some charges on my account. I called the hotel and I was told it was because I didn't cancel in an adequate time and there was no refund, so that's a total of $316.00 for a 30 minute hotel stay! Needless to say, we disputed the charges and waiting for our money. Beware of this hotel. The pictures on the internet are misleading and nothing of what the rooms look like.
Baymont by Wyndham Ft. Leonard/Saint Robert

I chose this particular hotel because it was part of the Wyndham Group. And I believed them to be of a reasonably good standard and quality. Also trip.com had some very competitive pricing. The hotel was easy to find, a good location close to i-44. Exceptionally easy access to the freeway. The room was clean, pleasent and nicely decorated. The night reception person was professional and polite. Breakfast is included in the price. However .....the breakfast service was sadly lacking. Selection was poor. The food was luke warm. The person maintaining the breakfast area decided arguing with the customers was a good idea. When asked for spray to stop the waffles from sticking (which they were) she said that she didn't have any, it didn't need any and in five years of working there she had never seen any of the waffles stick. So....of course....I had to watch and see for myself. Four out of four different customers who made waffles ALL had trouble with sticking waffles and ended up just ripping them out.... The stay could have been top notch, but wasn't. If breakfast is not important to you then you will be fine. However if you like to get what you pay for and enjoy a nice hot scrambled egg and a bit of bacon before you travel, you might want to give this particular hotel a miss.
Fairfield Inn Fort Leonard Wood St. Robert

The location of this hotel was a perfect first stop from Chicago. and I was thrilled to see a 50's Route 66 style diner across the street (I just love Diners!!!) This seemed to be an older Fairfield Inn, a little smaller. even so, our king room was quite large. The young woman at reception was so friendly, it felt like a welcome home! Unfortunately, I think the hotel was pretty empty, so with not too many guests, the lobby coffee was not hot (after all, why make a huge pot of coffee, then throw most of it away. Same was true for the morning breakfast. I am used to lavish hot buffets at Fairfield Inns, but this was very limited. No eggs, no bacon or sausage, just some prepackaged sausage biscuits, prepackaged toaster waffles, and some cereal. Totally understandable with limited guests, again, why throw most of it away. I was also disappointed that this hotel is following Marriott's ”latest and greatest” idea of filling in their Whirlpools. After a long day on the road, I appreciate being able to grab 20 minutes in a Hot Tub to relax. But those days seem to be vanishing rapidly. Shame on you Marriott.
