Brit Hotel & Spa le Roc au Chien

"The room was tight with space and the shower room the size of a closet. The wash basin was cracked. Where the manager was very charming and helpful her staff left much to be desired. Their body language left one with the impression that they were tired of tourists invading their space; indifferent and could not look at you in the eye. Table service was very poor showing a lack of training and experience. We were seated at a table but not given any menus. After waiting a quarter of an hour we noticed other couples arriving were seated and given menus immediately. At that point I got up and asked a member of staff for a menu. Having supplied our order we were kept waiting half an hour before the first course arrived while other customers who had arrived after us were served before us. Our dinner took us two and a half hours! On departure, after two nights, we were checked out by one of the assistants who was very curt, could not look at me in the eye and could not bring herself to wish us a pleasant journey! Cannot recommend this hotel"

Hôtel Normandie Spa

"As other trip advisors have noted, the Hotel Le Normandie's website does NOT accurately reflect the decrepit condition of the hotel. After checking out the "standard" room, which was a hellhole that would not meet anyone's "standards," I paid to upgrade to a "superior" room. Yes it was a large room, but in poor condition (see photos). Broken furniture, stained carpets, and the hot water was almost non-existent when it came to bathing. In addition, the first and last meal I had at the Hotel Le Normandie was certainly the worst meal I had in several weeks of traveling throughout France, and one of the worst I've had in about 10 years of visiting various regions of France. (Monsieur Bibendum, are you listening??) I found the staff to be extremely jaded, offering poor service - except for a kindly young man who was handling the cheese cart duties. What really hurt was the 6 (!) euros I was charged for a cup of coffee (a total breakfast at the hotel ran for 7-9 euros!). I was told the 6 euro charge was because it was a "double," even though I did not ask for a "double." When I brought it up with the manager, I received no recompense or even an apology. I thought, why am I staying here and supporting this place with my patronage?? Thankfully the manager let me leave a day early, but I was still charged a full fee for that night despite getting out of there by 3:00 p.m. It speaks to the magnitude of my unhappiness that I was willing to eat a sizeable night's lodging fee to depart. I would rechristen the place Hotel Le "Abnormandie" -- not up to the Logis standards at all."

Hôtel le Hussard

"A group of 6 of us stayed at Le Hussard for two nights, using it as a base to attend the MotoGP at Le Mans. Le Hussard has a 2 star rating, but should be regarded as a high 2 stars. The building is a little tired, but our rooms were clean and beds comfortable, being freshly made up the following morning. The hotel proprietor was the perfect host and he could not have done more for us. Breakfasts were served at whatever time we requested, the bread and croissants were the freshest I've had in a hotel, and plentiful coffee was provided to whatever our preferred tastes. In terms of value for money, this hotel is hard to beat. We're already considering next year."

"We had a wonderful stay at La Bellemè Bleu as a couple in February. The place is charming, comfortable, and very well maintained, with a calm and pleasant atmosphere that makes you feel at home right away. The owners are incredibly kind, welcoming, and attentive, always making sure everything is perfect. Their hospitality truly made the difference and added a personal touch to our stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would highly recommend La Bellemè Bleu to anyone looking for a lovely and relaxing place to stay. We would happily return!"

Château de Blavou Normandie

"We booked this Chateau as a last stop at the end of our holiday in France. It was intended to be a bit of luxury after a long drive .. and it is certainly spectacular in its setting and age. The owners were welcoming and helpful and their home-made breads and pastries were amazing - as was their jam, meaning we had to take some home! There was some confusion over dinner as it was not available when we arrived so check the instructions on booking - we went into the nearby town and were lucky to find somewhere open on a Sunday night. The room was a little tired and would be challenging to reach if you were at all unsteady on your feet as it was up a steep, stone, curved stair case with the hollows of centuries-worth of footsteps making it quite a feat! The bed was the most comfortable I have slept in in months - although my husband was convinced it moved in the night! The owners assured us it was not ******* so it may have been the wine! All in all a lovely place and I would like to return in the spring/summer months to see it in all its glory."

"As someone who is first & foremost looking for cleanliness, I have to say that this was definitely one of the cleanest and most beautifully kept places I have ever stayed. The grounds are breathtaking. The attention to detail & the respect for history was so pleasing. The welcome & cocktails were second to none. Such a wonderful experience in the countryside of France. Our host could not have been more helpful in making our adventure go well. I could not recommend highly enough. If you get the change you have GOT to saty here. Absolutely beautiful x"
