THe Don Paco Hotel ★★★

"Very centrally located near the marina. There was some slight street noise with the window closed, but it wasn't really bothersome. The air conditioning worked very well. There was Wi-Fi reception in the rooms. A refrigerator for drinks was provided. Otherwise, the room was very sparsely furnished with just a chair and a table. A large picture above the bed would make the atmosphere in the relatively large room more inviting. The room and bathroom/toilet were very clean. The staff was very friendly. The breakfast was very good. There was muesli, eggs (boiled, fried, scrambled), chorizo, cheese, cold cuts, rolls and toast, various fruits, cakes, and cookies. Anyone who doesn't get full there has only themselves to blame. The only drawback: the tea water was usually not hot enough. If possible, avoid rooms 101, 102, 201, and 202. The ding-dong of the elevator is annoying. On the 3rd and 4th floors, it's not as bad in rooms x01 and x02."

"The best overall experience of our entire round trip. Two nights. A lovely, though fairly small, room. Excellent bed, finally nicely “cushioned” and comfortable. Powerful air conditioning. Very clean. At night, it can be a bit noisy due to the central location, when people are talking in the street or the occasional car passes by. But that’s the trade-off for having the best central location in Mindelo. We could easily walk everywhere from here. The real highlight, however, is the team. A wonderfully warm and appreciative welcome by Paula. Doorman John was also fantastic – he even walked us almost all the way to the restaurant we wanted late in the evening. The manager and all the other staff were equally outstanding at all times, whether it was giving tips about Mindelo or restaurants, or organizing an English-speaking taxi driver with the best vehicle we had anywhere in Cape Verde, fairly priced, too. Then this: on our last morning, our own pre-booked taxi didn’t arrive on time very early in the morning, and the staff member immediately offered to arrange a replacement vehicle. He then waited upstairs on the terrace by reception until we were safely on our way. Wow. We’ve rarely experienced such a consistently service-oriented, friendly, and helpful hotel team. Breakfast was good as well. The tables used earlier could have been cleared for later guests, but overall that was fine. And definetly no reason not to come back.. We would definitely stay here again!"

"The hotel is undoubtedly the best that could have been in Mindelo in the past, facing Amilcar Cabral square, a pleasant shaded park, its terrace offers an ideal viewpoint from which to watch the carnival parade! The room (n°203) is spacious, although impersonal, the view of the back of the hotel is very ugly. Impossible to open the windows and since the air conditioning remote control is out of order, the room quickly becomes stuffy! the bathroom is well equipped, shower with hand shower (a first, very useful on an island where water is rare!), however very little space between the toilet bowl and the sink! The hotel staircase carpet is very dirty, replacing it would not be a luxury. The breakfast, served as a buffet, is OK, it's a shame that the only toaster is defective. A nice hotel certainly, right in the city center, but which does not deserve its four stars."

"Such a lovely place to stay. The people are super friendly and helpful. Everything is really nicely done and thoughtful. We all enjoyed staying here with Cape Verdean art and character - and all the comforts! Really convenient for going into Mindelo centre (Mercado Municipal, restaurants and shops) and to Laginha beach. Enjoyed time on the roof terrace. And breakfast in the garden was delicious and a beautiful start to the day. Everywhere spotlessly clean too. Would have loved to stay longer."
