"The site is unimaginably beautiful. I could have sat all day on the deck soaking in the fjord. But of course Skjolden the area has so much to offer with hiking, biking, waterfalls, boat rides and day trips to the glacier and National Parks, we were very busy. The cabins are equipped with everything you need and they are very clean and spacious. The manager was very friendly and accommodating."

"If you are looking for a hotel in this area, you don't have much choice, so you should read the hotel description carefully to avoid any surprises. The often-cited review of "aging" is quite accurate. Our room 322 in the attic was very stuffy on warm summer days and difficult to ventilate overnight. Unfortunately, the curtains are very thin, so the room is difficult to darken. Small wardrobe is OK, but there are no coat hooks in the room or bathroom. Room service simply took our deposit bottles from the table and didn't change two towels on the floor. There was no WiFi in our room. We were also disappointed with breakfast. There was only black bread and toast. Very little fruit, e.g. bananas were cut into five pieces and grapes had to be picked up individually with small tongs. Dinner was home cooking, not bad to fill you up but not a taste highlight. It's OK for a short stay. Swim in the lake when the weather is nice!"

"Family owned, friendly, helpful staff .... The women owner gave us great info on where to hike. Beautiful views from the room and dinning room. The food was the best we had in three weeks in Norway. The 3 course menu was different every night. The rooms were nice, modern and very clean. Very relaxing sitting on the terrace before dinner with the view of the fjord. We travel every month in the summer to some European country and stay in a lot of very nice hotels. 4 and 5 Star hotels. I can highly recommend the Skjolden hotel."

"We asked to check in a bit early after our adventurous rainy drive up from Bergen. As the owner looked up our reservation we mentioned we were in the area looking for my husband’s ancestral home. We promptly got upgraded from a standard room to a suite! Additionally was Whit Monday (Pentecostal Monday) which (unbeknownst to us) is a major holiday in Norway. We inquired if the restaurant would be open for supper and it fortunately was. (Many stores were closed along the way). We enjoyed a marvelous meal with great service - even though there was one hostess running the very busy restaurant. All the food was stellar - breakfast is included and was generous. The suite had a nice couch and desk and the hotel was very clean and quiet. One important note - the drapes were not blackout so if you require darkness to get a good sleep you should bring a mask."

The service is first class too. & the hotel rooms are comfy and well kept with nice patios overlooking lovely grounds with beautiful fjord views. The diving board is right out front too"

Villa Solvorn

"We didn't stay at Villa Solvorn but did hire kayaks from there one morning during our stay in Solvorn. It was an easy process (just arrange by telephone) and we had fun kayaking in the fjord. Lifejackets, and a drybag, were provided, and a spray-deck is optional."
