Allegedly the Lord didn't want his tenants racing onto the street to demand his attention when he passed in his carriage, so he built the (shared access) entrances at the rear of the cottages - but added a fake door for appearances sake. Within walking distance is the The Railway Inn which serves excellent food plus a local farm shop with locally sourced supplies , cafe and play area, and a particularly good butchers. Agatha Christie's Greenway house is easily accessible via the steam railway, or for those that enjoy walking, there is the scenic route on foot. An easy ramble down quiet lanes and you will find the ancient woodland and an area of outstanding natural beauty .
