"The absolute best Fanjingshan route is definitely not west up, east down, but west up, west down. Our original plan was west up, east down, but to stay at Sacred Mountain Retreat – Fanjingshan for two consecutive nights, we followed the advice of our housekeeper, Sister Qiuzi, and changed to west up, west down. It turned out to be the best decision. 1. **Going up from the west:** The west route is incredibly beautiful, less crowded, shaded, with ancient trees, a gentle ascent, and a serene, distant feel. You'll feel like Fanjingshan is all yours until visitors from both east and west routes converge at Baifo Platform, and Pudu Square is absolutely packed. 2. **Coming down from the west:** This avoids the crowded east route cable car and trail. No waiting, no挤, you can go when you want and stop when you want. Your mind finds peace, and Fanjingshan becomes yours again. 3. **Besides Fanjingshan, my favorite was Sacred Mountain Retreat – Fanjingshan.** This is a unique guesthouse that blends into tranquil nature, honest mountain folk, and a touch of revolutionary history. You must stay here for at least two days to truly experience the beauty of distant mountains, nearby trees, the chirping of insects and birds, the flowing stream, and the shadows of bamboo, as well as the tranquility of every flower, every blade of grass, one person, one horse (Xiao Bai), one dog (Xiao Hei), and one house. We even followed an elder to identify and pick herbs and walked the horse with housekeeper Sister Qiuzi. 4. **The meals at Sacred Mountain Retreat – Fanjingshan were delightful and flexible.** We ate whatever housekeeper Sister Qiuzi arranged, all fresh and delicious local mountain dishes. The sour soup old duck was particularly tasty. And the incredibly popular handmade matcha, pumpkin, and purple sweet potato steamed buns were so good we couldn't stop eating. 5. **Because we stayed for two days, we made a point of walking around Sacred Mountain Retreat – Fanjingshan early in the morning.** We saw the simple, unpretentious local houses, chickens, ducks, geese, vegetable gardens, and pear trees, chestnut trees, tung oil trees, and euodia trees... Xiao Hei accompanied us the whole time. In short, housekeeper Sister Qiuzi treats this place as her home and us as her family. Time here feels both slow and fast; we didn't want to leave, and now that we've left, we want to come back."

You can see the most beautiful scenery by entering from the West Gate of Fanjing Mountain and exiting from the East Gate. There are trees all over the mountain when climbing from the East Gate, but the scenery is better when climbing up from the West Gate."

The owner was a very honest young man who offered to drive us to the scenic area entrance in the morning. We ate two meals at his place, both of which were excellent. The owner also provided mushrooms and vegetables, and the price was very reasonable. We were cold and hungry after coming down from the mountain, and a sip of chicken soup instantly revived us. On the third morning, on our way back, we asked the owner to stir-fry another plate of cured pork to take away. It was delicious!"
