The Greystone Inn

"There is a lot to like about the Greystone Inn. When we checked in we were offered complimentary champagne and when we left we were given a bag containing cookies. Our suite was magnificent. It was in a newer building over the spa and had a large sitting area, separate bedroom, screened porch overlooking the lake and a large modern bath. I would like to give five stars, but the restaurant was a major disappointment. To begin with, my husband uses a walker and found it almost impossible to get in. There is a ramp, but the top area is quite steep and tilted to one side. Once past that you have to get over a wooden barrier several inches higher than the ramp surface. It took three other guests over half an hour to help my husband get in and then back out. Thank goodness for such wonderful people. The food itself was a disappointment. My salad was saturated with a balsamic dressing that was so tangy it was almost inedible. The promised vegetables, nuts and cheese were difficult to find. We both had the crab cake appetizer as an entree. The cake itself was slightly overcooked and the pimiento cheese souffle under it was dry. The sauteed mushroom were not chanterelles as advertised. Rather, they were your standard button mushrooms sitting in a pile of cream. Our server was excellent and attentive, but the kitchen itself was amazingly slow. The next night we found a wonderful restaurant about ten minutes from the hotel. It wasn't fun navigating the twisting roads in the dark, but the side trip was worth it. We would consider staying at the inn again, but would not eat in the inn's restaurant, which we would rate with a C-."
