The one point I would raise is the siting of the plugs by sides of the bed - they were just below height of pillows and not easy to reach comfortably but better there than none!!"

"Needing a stop-off between Calais and the Atlantic coast, Broglie, not far from the A28 motorway, fitted the bill. The building is an 18th century town house, converted to a hotel last year. Beautifully done by an interior decorator and his partner, it has a small number of large en-suite bedrooms, with modern rather than antique furniture. The restaurant was an even newer venture, open for only a week, and still finding its feet. Very welcoming couple who upgraded us without charge to a more expensive cooler room on a very hot night. Excellent breakfast. A place to return to when we make the same journey."

"The hotel is tucked away in the woods outside a tiny village. We struggeld to find it, as Google Maps seemed to think it was in the village tself. The weather during our visit was very changeable: when the sun shone it was lovely - when it was overcast the surrounding vegetation felt a ittle too much for me. Staff (and possibly owners) were very nice and helpful. Our room was large and comfortable with a small veranda. The restaurant is excellent (see separate review). Breakfast was delicious - the home made jam particularly memorable."

"Very very nice! At the arrival, the careful park on which the small Chateau is faced leaves enchanted. There is a large and very well furnished room (beautiful box cabin), with a very large bathroom. At the first floor, room with sofas, bar and billiards available. In the park, pool and tennis field. I noticed horses, I imagine there is also a small management. Breakfast oriented to "sweet", with good quality products. You breathe a sober elegance and quiet air. Staff very available. We liked it very much, recommended!"

"We were unlucky with the weather but despite that enjoyed this hotel very much. The spa was nice. The food was amazing - the dinner in the evening was beyond compare. The staff were great especially the chap on reception. We had a wonderful time and imagine it would have been even better in nice weather. The rooms are a little dated but clean and comfortable"

"This was our tenth visit to Surville; we have been coming as a family at the start or end of summer almost since it opened. Camille and Hughes are charming, attentive, warm, funny hosts, and the manor buildings and rooms themselves are renovated and furnished with care and taste. What is makes it most special are the little touches like local produce, excellent wine and toasting marshmallows at the fire pit. It has been a place of happy summer memories for many years now and we hope it will be for many more."

"Came across this hotel by accident after the Chambre Hotes we had booked in to proved to be of very poor standard. The Lion d'Or made us welcome and we had a clean, comfortable, quiet room plus good breakfast the following morning. A big bonus is that they have their own courtyard where you can safely park your car. Also several good restaurants are all within easy walking distance - Le Bistrot de Bernay was excellent. All in all nothing fancy, but just right for tired travellers looking for a stop-over."
