Allanton Inn

Allanton Inn

📍 Main Street, Allanton
★★★ 9.7 (69 reviews)

"We had a lovely stay at the Allanton Inn. There were lots of thoughtful extras in the room and the breakfast was excellent with good quality local produce. We would have no hesitation returning."

The White Swan Hotel

The White Swan Hotel

📍 31-32 Market Square, Duns
★★★ 7.9 (40 reviews)

"Fantastic value, a warm welcome and very comfortable accommodation. Stayed for two nights on my own. The pub is a traditional coaching inn type pub and clearly a magnet for locals, who were very evident in the bar. There was very much a sense of community, with customers greeting one another but also friendly to strangers like me. I felt very comfortable and enjoyed traditional pub fare both evenings. Staff were friendly, efficient and skilled. My room was a small twin, with a tiny but very tidy and modern shower room. The beds had fantastic mattresses (high end Ikea), which I found extremely comfortable both sleeping and sitting up on to watch telly (the latter isn't easy as I have a somewhat creaky back). The hotel is a little tired in places, but that is very much what I would expect for a historic building that hasn't had actual millions thrown at it to turn it into five stars. But where is mattered everything was well thought through and delivered. The cost for two nights B&B and evening meals with wine totalled less than a single night B&B in many other pubs with rooms. I would most definitely stay here again."

The Wheatsheaf Hotel and Restaurant

The Wheatsheaf Hotel and Restaurant

📍 Main St, Duns, Swinton
★★★★ 9.2 (62 reviews)

"Can’t thank the staff at the Wheatsheaf enough for making our family get together so great. We were a party of 18 and a dog and the staff couldn’t have been anymore accommodating."

Chirnside Hall Hotel

Chirnside Hall Hotel

📍 nr Duns, Chirnside
★★★★ 8.9 (20 reviews)

"We have been coming back to Chirnside Hall Hotel for many many years. It is a great place to go out and visit the beautiful Scottish borders countryside, the coast and it's many castles and estates. Close to Edinburgh and Newcastle it is very easy to access from the European continent by air and over sea. And Chirnside offers great experiences for those who love fieldsports and dogs are very welcome."

The Coach House

The Coach House

📍 Allanbank Courtyard Allanton, Berwickshire, Duns
★★★ 10 (1 reviews)

"The Coach House is in a quiet secluded location between Chirnside and Allanton. It's extremely peaceful and a great place to relax and unwind. The cottage is spacious and comfortable with all the amenities you need for your stay. Liz is very helpful and was available to answer any questions. It's a perfect place to stay for the Jim Clark Rally and I highly recommend it!"

Green Hope Guest House

Green Hope Guest House

📍 Ellemford, Duns
★★★ 10 (4 reviews)

"We spent a lovely weekend at GreenHope and had a really great weekend. Alison and Bill were so hospitable and kind and the accommodation was top class. A lovely little semi detached bungalow with a full working kitchen with all mod cons, a sitting room and bedroom with en suite shower and toilet. It was immaculate and spotless and the surroundings were like something from a movie. Patio doors from the sitting room leading out to a patio had the most spectacular view looking onto a flowing river between two rolling glens. Absolutely breathtaking. Alison allowed us to park our car right next to the bungalow too so it was super convenient. The peace and tranquility was priceless and just what we needed after having a hectic Christmas and New Year period. We booked again for 6 weeks time as seeing the area in Spring will be spectacular. If you like stargazing then this is the place too. One clear evening gave us the most dazzling curtain of stars and I imagine in Spring the milky way could be spotted. Duns is only a 15 minute drive if you need supplies or want to go for lunch or dinner which we did and enjoyed it to no end. Its great value for money and at only an hour away from Edinburgh you can enjoy the most peaceful and resting retreat imaginable. Whether youre from Scotland or further afield Green Hope is a must for those looking for a quiet break away from city life."

Allanton Inn ★★★
"We keep returning to stay and eat here a number of times. Never fails to impress. Always a warm welcome, great rooms, fresh and inspiring menus (dinner & breakfast). This time we enjoyed freshly baked pizzas outdoors with amazing views across the fields & countryside. Hope to go back again soon."

The White Swan Hotel ★★★
"Stayed at the White Swan recently for 4 nights. We were in a group of 5. We had a great stay here using the hotel as a base. Breakfast was fantastic with a great choice. We also ate here in the evening and the food was excellent, each evening had specials on the menu, Sunday was our favourite with turkey and all the trimmings. Rooms were perfect for what we required and the beds were very comfortable. The staff made this stay with each and every one pleasant to speak to and service was exceptional. If we are back in the area next year we wont look anywhere else for accommodation."

The Wheatsheaf Hotel and Restaurant ★★★★
"We’ve just had two nights here with our doggies and would definitely recommend it! A lovely cosy pub/hotel with a relaxing atmosphere and very friendly staff. We stayed in the cottage which is about a 30 second walk from the main building with roadside parking outside the door. We were so pleasantly surprised with the cottage! Spacious, well equipped, clean and just really nicely done. It even has a back garden which was handy for letting out our dogs. Food was delicious, good portion sizes and brilliant service and very fairly priced and they had a very good range of drinks at the bar. We would 100% stay here again. The only potential downside is that there isn’t much around, we drove about 10 minutes to a co op…BUT that did mean that the village itself was really quiet which we love :) Perfect for a relaxing get away!"

Chirnside Hall Hotel ★★★★
"Built in 1863 as a holiday retreat for a local entrepreneur, Chirnside Hall has survived all that has afflicted the Scottish Borders since - the weather, political upheavals and economic constraints. Since 2000, the development into a fine boutique hotel and seasonal hunting lodge has been the passion of Dutchman, Christian Korsten and his team. If you are looking for a cosy, comfortable and personal venue, then you should be more than pleased. The welcoming smiles are genuine, as is the determination to deliver an up-market experience. The décor is a stylish meld of antique and Harris Tweed modern, with proper linen napkins at table. As for food, the dinner menu changes daily, with meals that would earn gold stars at other establishments; a 'Full Scottish' is a real breakfast challenge; and the picnic lunch option a delight. Not only did Kirsty the chef demonstrate a thorough understanding of my coeliac limitations, she provided special gluten-free treats for me that were the envy of my friends (thank you Kirsty). For our elderly Border Terrier, he found the stairs to the top floor an effort, and some times needed carrying. So if you are planning to visit with a four-legged family member, this may be a consideration. Yet, there was even attention to detail for him, with a crate in the room, bowls and dog treats. Overall, a thoroughly enjoyable trip, which we recommend whole-heartedly. "
