"We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Hotel De Ville and could not have made a better choice. Set in a beautiful location above Garda and yet a short walk from the local village. "My husband, daughter and I had a wonderful time, once again, at Hotel Madrigale. What impresses us each year is the staff. Sultan and Michael are always very friendly, attentive and professional in their work. One person, however, who always stands out is Angelo. He was off from work for two days when we first arrived. The hotel did not quite feel the same without him, everything was perfect, however something was missing. When Angelo greeted us the next morning with a very enthusiastic „Buongiorno“, we felt like we finally arrived in Bella Italia. His positive energy fills the room. He makes us feel like we have been invited to a large family breakfast in Italy. Even though he is very busy, he takes the time to greet each hotel guest and to wish everyone a “Buona Giornata” . In the evening he welcomes each guest and wishes every guest a good evening. He makes everyone feel like they are special guest who have arrived home for dinner. He manages this well serving meals and guests needs to perfection. I would also like to mention the lovely middle aged woman who cleaned our room. She was so friendly when I came to the room to get something. She even gave me a tip on how to care for the flowers I had in the room. There were also a few new faces serving the pool during the day. I was so delighted when Stephanie could speak to me in English. With all the positive attitudes of everyone at the hotel, including the very welcoming and helpful women at the front desk, it shows that this is a family run business that cares for their staff. Additionally, the half board is excellent. The breakfast is amazing! There is everything imaginable to choose from. There are even lactose and gluten free selections. The service is superior to none. You never have to wait to order a cappuccino or a special order omelette; which does not cost extra. The dinner was excellent. There is a large salad bar/antipasto selection to start with. Followed by a 4 course gourmet quality dinner. The pools are fantastic. The guests must be 14 years of age or older which truly makes a difference for a relaxing day at the pool. The panoramic view from both of the large pools is breathtaking. We had a blue lake triple room which had the gorgeous view of the village of Garda and the sail boats on the lake. The Spa area was closed during high summer, therefore we did not visit it. However, we are sure it must be great considering everything else at the hotel is superior. We have made Hotel Madrigale our annual visit to Northern Italy. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday."

"Service and food once again excellent but menu needs changing more often or daily specials. Dogs should not be allowed in restaurant. Rooms very good but no longer providing tea and coffee facilities in the room is a negative. Breakfast was excellent and everywhere really clean "

"We were made to feel special in the beautiful hotel- the team were very helpful and met our every need - a very tranquil place to relax and enjoy lovely food and wine. Our room was E beautiful and the aircon was superb in 39 degree heat - the pool is just right . Plenty of loungers not too close together with a bonus of service for drinks and lunch by the poolside . The open air restaurant is excellent with huge sun canopy’s when needed. Again plenty of space and very attentive team - nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommend a stay here."

"We have stayed in an apartment at Poiano three times now on a half board basis and have never been disappointed. The apartments are clean and tidy with comfortable beds and excellent air conditioning. Yes some require you to walk up hill but it's worth it for the incredible view. Every single member of staff is helpful and friendly. The regular shuttles down to the town are invaluable. You may experience a short wait of 15 minutes or so at busy times but it's free, from an easy location to find and saves a long uphill walk. We used it most days, both up and down. The food in the restaurant is plentiful and drinks are well priced. There is always a salad buffet to go with the first and main courses and dessert buffet. Do be aware that it's not spaghetti Bolognese and pizza. We didn't eat pizza once. It's proper Italian food - gnocchi, fish, veal etc. If you choose not to eat in the hotel there are plenty of excellent cafes and bars on the lake front. The swimming pool is great. Large fluffy pool towels are provided which is so helpful. It's less busy after 3pm so we tended to go to the pool in the afternoon for a few hours. The pool bar serves good food quickly and is not expensive. Everything at the pool and from the bar is charged to your room and you pay at the end of your stay. Tourist tax is €5 per person per day. We used the local buses and the ferry to visit other towns such as Malcesine. Timetables are easy to look up and fares are not expensive. We also took an organised trip to Venice which we would highly recommend. Don't worry about other negative reviews. Just do your research. It's steep in places. It's not the place for you if you have mobility issues. There isn't loads of parking but there's enough. Yes you have to empty your own bins but there are designated areas for this, well hidden and only a short walk away, wherever at Poiano you are stsying. Towels are changed mid week. Our apartment was well equipped with a sink, fridge and cooker and plenty of space. The view was incredible. We'll be back for our 4th visit!"

"We were visiting south Italy and our flights had an overnight stay in Rome. I ended up booking a room at Villa Alma for the night as it is close to the airport. The taxi from the airport dropped us at the entrance to the street instead of driving us to the front of the building. The driver was also rude and dismissive. It was late when we arrived. So about 10:30pm. Normally check in to Villa Alma closes at 9pm but the owner (Opi??) was waiting for us outside to guide us to the building. Since the taxi did not take us all the way to the door, we were not clear which building to go to but Opi waiting for us outside really helped. Opi was furious that the taxi driver was rude and also made us walk. When we told him what we paid for the ride, he told us he overcharged us and that was wrong. He said he was planning to go to the airport in the morning so he could drop us off as well. We went for a walk and had dinner. This is a nice neighborhood with a canal running through it. It has bridges over it. The view is nice. Also there are plenty of restaurants and bars open in very easy walking distance. We enjoyed our walk a lot. It seems this neighborhood has some festivals in summer so it might be good to go back. Anyway the room was clean, smelled good, well maintained and overall pleasant. We stayed at the room in the first floor (half a flight of walk up) Opi had a breakfast ready for us when we got up in the morning. He had juice, filled croissants, yogurt, coffee, tea etc. Overall I would say the breakfast was nice. He ended up driving us to the airport (along with somebody who works there) as he promised and refused to take money to make up for the bad treatment we had by the taxi driver the night before. We insisted but he refused it. Such a nice guy who made us feel good and happy to meet him. In general I prefer to not to write negative only reviews. But I made sure to write when somebody goes above and beyond. So in general this stay was definitely a good one."
