"We went to the Hillgrove Hotel for our baby boy’s christening meal. We were in the Toulouse suite which was set up perfectly when we arrived and was a great venue for a meal with young children. "A friend and I popped in at 4.15pm for a quick cuppa and a bite. Yes! They were still serving! We made our orders, drink and food in the rear, sunny area. The waitress didn't quite understand what a lager shandy was but my friend was satisfied she seemed to understand. Some 5 minutes went by and she returned with his shandy which had very little lemonade in at all. Another long wait and his salad appeared. He started to eat but his chips hadn't arrived. The waitress came by and asked me if was Latte that I wanted. I was shocked and confirmed that it was. My friend asked about his chips and was told they weren't ready yet and he said that was very poor service but she walked, almost stalked off, completely ignoring him. Halfway through his meal, he stopped eating and commented to me that his chips still hadn't arrived. I reminded him I was still waiting for my fajita!! She finally delivered my latte and the chips arrived. 2 bowls. Clearly 1 for him and 1 (that I hadn't ordered!) for me. Long pause as she took offence to being told that the chips were ordered with the salad. Gave a personal excuse rather than being the correct face of the customer contact. Then she left. Another few minutes and I went to the bar area to ask about my fajita. The 2 different girls were clearly having a private conversation and, although I was seen, the conversation continues for perhaps 20 seconds before I interrupted them and asked about the fajita. Yes, it's coming. It's being cooked at the moment!! I would say, at this point, we were the only 2 customers in that area - they were not busy! My fajita duly arrived, it was nice although the second half was noticeably cold at the point it was cut in half. I know it's difficult when a hot meal includes a small salad on the side of the same plate. Perhaps it should have been served on a separate, warmed plate. Well, I was suitably sated but what a place!! Insolent service from staff who are effectively the forward face of the establishment! And no joining up of the menu delivery. In my family, we were never allowed to start eating until we all had food on the table to eat. I died waiting and my friend would have died waiting!!"

"We were recommended the Hotel by a family member . My wife is disabled and we had the disabled room with the single and double bed . The room is very dated in its appearance . My wife had an accident with her catheter and the staff where fantastic. I would say that the rooms would also benefit from having a mini fridge in them . The food was fantastic if not a bit over priced Breakfast was excellent,the staff where very good . When I asked if the main bar was open I was told no only for weddings. This meant if you wanted a drink you had to sit in the restaurant part .not ideal Also there was no outside seating on the terrace apparently again only for weddings. It is a lovely setting but I feel I could be even better if some investment was out into. I would go back again ."

"Can"t thank Kathleen and Emmet enough. We were there for a wedding at the castle and had a car problem. Kathleen drove us up to the wedding and Emmet fixed our car. Without their kindness we would have been stuck. Very kind and welcoming place to stay. We had room 4 with the bathroom across the hall which was actually perfect as the bathroom is huge so lots of space to get ready as we were 3 girls."

Room 605 was so big and spotless Had a few drinks sitting outside in the good weather. Table booked in main restaurant- great food and service Back to the bar with live music - great night Had a great breakfast to set us up for the day Overall - super friendly staff - magic food If picky - security lock on windows could be made a bit longer just to allow the windows to open a few more inches And Get rid of the blue toilet seat - it doesn’t match anything Will we be back - oh yes !!!"
