Hotel Karl Müller

Hotel Karl Müller

📍 Moselpromenade 9, Cochem
★★★ 8.3 (51 reviews)

"The hotel is perfectly located, right in the heart of town, on the river. It's a family-style hotel with its own restaurant and lounge downstairs, and across from the cruise ship terminal and ticket office. The rooms are similar to those of a two-star hotel in China, a bit like a Japanese-style hotel. While not upscale, the hotel feels thoughtfully maintained. The pedestrian street church is nearby, as are many restaurants. Very convenient. Arrived early and received a free night."

Hotel Traumblick

Hotel Traumblick

📍 Bergstraße 6, Cochem
★★★ 8.1 (32 reviews)

"My son and I stayed at Hotel Traumblick for 3 nights in April. We had a "classic Mosel view" room, which is the smallest size on the top floor with slanted ceiling. Although the room is small, every inch is well-utilized. Bathroom is compact but not unusual for European hotels. We had no issue with water pressure on the top floor. The room has a mini fridge and water kettle. We have a small balcony with a table and 2 chairs, which we enjoyed sitting out on. I definitely recommend paying extra for the Mosel view, and recommend the larger-sized room (comfortable room) if you want more space. Location-wise, the hotel is located on the quieter side of Cochem just across the bridge. Many hotels are on the busy side right on the main street, and I can imagine they get noisy. Hotel Traumblick is fairly quiet, but you can get to the heart of the town within a 5-min walk across the bridge. From the train station, it is a good 15-min walk, so maybe not the best choice for travelers with heavy luggage. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel but the bus (no.703) runs only 1x/hour. The plus side of being on the other side of the bridge is you get a great view of the town and the castle from the balcony! The staff is great and the breakfast is top-notched. Lots of choices and the breakfast room also looks out to the river. Breakfast starts at 8am however, so if you want an early start it might not work for you. Another huge plus is the hotel offering bikes & e-bikes rental! We haven't seen any bike rental places in the town itself so this is super convenient. They have different sizes of regular bikes along with helmets. If I have to quibble about Hotel Traumblick, I would say the bed sheets are a bit rough and towels a bit thin. But for a 3* hotel for such a good price, good location, and everything else, I can certainly overlook those."

Hotel Vintage am Bundesbank-Bunker

Hotel Vintage am Bundesbank-Bunker

📍 Brauselaystraße 5-7, Cochem
★★★ 8.4 (14 reviews)

"Never again! The only positive thing was the breakfast. The rooms in this heat, without air conditioning, were torture chambers. There was only a stationary fan, which was clearly inadequate. The area around the hotel was neglected! The hotel itself was furnished with a few dated "vintage" items. No staff were present after 5:00 PM. They didn't return until 8:00 AM. Unfortunately, we had to cut our stay short after one night due to health reasons. The hotel owner, whom we had to call ourselves, offered no compensation and demanded the full price! They told us to claim the remaining amount from our insurance! The walk into town was very steep. The walk into town was downhill, but the return trip was a steep uphill climb. We had to take a taxi. The staff were Vietnamese? They spoke some German."

"I have been to Germany from the states many times and every time I make my way to Cochem and stay no where else but Villa Tummelchin. First time I stayed was 20 years ago and had a great experience. Herr Luy, Monika and team have always gone the extra mile, nothing has changed in all the times I have visited and again, just a few weeks ago I can confidently state the same. I highly suggest you stay at this great location and do yourself a favor and explore the uphill garden area. Views are spectacular."

"We stayed here for 4 nights while hiking on the Moselsteig. We found the center of Cochem to be very touristy and noisy, so we were especially happy to stay at this hotel, located at a good distance from all the hustle and bustle down in the town. The hotel itself is neat and clean, and our room was very nice. We particularly enjoyed the lovely balcony with a view of the river. The staff here is extremely friendly, and the service is excellent, especially in the restaurant in the evenings. We also received great service when we wanted to bring wine in from the car so it wouldn’t have to sit in the heat for several days. We were immediately offered to store it in the hotel’s cellar and given help to carry it inside. The hotel has a nice terrace where it’s pleasant to dine in the evening. The restaurant serves decent food way better than what you can get in town. Breakfast is standard hotel breakfast, but we would have preferred to eat a bit earlier than the opening hours allowed. We highly recommend this lovely hotel to others who want to escape the commotion of the city."

Hotel Vintage am Bundesbank-Bunker ★★★
"The hotel is located above Cochem. It's within walking distance if you're reasonably fit. (There is a bus, but it doesn't run very frequently.) The rooms are large and practically furnished. Our bathroom was also spacious and had a walk-in shower (with a small threshold). Criticisms: - According to the hotel's information sheet, the reception is staffed from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. We had the impression that these hours weren't always adhered to. For example, we received a call around noon on our arrival day asking when we would be arriving. We were told that we would receive a check-in code after 4:00 PM. - According to the information sheet, breakfast is served from 8:00 AM. On two of our four days, the receptionist arrived at the hotel around 8:15 AM carrying bread and rolls. On one of these days, we stood in front of the locked breakfast room door for quite some time. On the second day, we were at least allowed to sit down with other guests and get something to drink. -According to the hotel's description, there's a "sparkling wine breakfast buffet." Sparkling wine glasses and coolers were available at the buffet, but there was no bottle of sparkling wine. We probably should have asked for it, but we weren't that desperate. (After the Vintage, we stayed at another hotel on the Moselle River that offered a sparkling wine breakfast, without this hotel having advertised it much beforehand...) -Cornflakes weren't replenished. On our third day, one type ran out, and the next day the container with the crumbs was still there. -The breakfast room, which isn't very large to begin with, can get cramped and noisy. In conclusion: The Hotel Vintage is quite nice, but it does have its weaknesses."

Moselland Hotel im Enderttal Zum Onkel Willi ★★
"Our hosts recommended this restaurant to us. It was close by, had a good rating, and the photos of the interiors looked charming. We couldn’t have foreseen the terrible service. Now that I think about it, I should have paid more attention to the negative reviews. We entered the restaurant, waited for a waiter to approach, and asked for a table for two. The polite and friendly waiter showed us to our table, handed us the menus, explained the special of the day, and then left so we could decide what to order. Soon, the lady we had seen at the reception came to ask what we’d like to drink. I asked if they had Glühwein. “We drink Glühwein in winter,” she replied disapprovingly. “Okay,” I said, and admitted that despite the large selection of wines on the menu, I wasn’t sure which one to choose, as I know very little about wine. Instead of asking what we planned to order and recommending something to go with it, she remained silent. “I guess we won’t drink, then,” I said, feeling quite awkward. “This is a restaurant. People come here to drink,” she replied - extremely sharply and rudely. I realize now that we should have simply gotten up and left, but at that moment we were so disconcerted and confused that I just ordered a hot chocolate - the first thing I remembered from the drinks menu. I asked whether it would be possible to have it after the meal, to which she again replied disapprovingly, “No, drinks before the meal,” and left. I was at a loss for words in response to such rudeness. Only one other table was occupied, and I kept wondering if they had heard how harshly this lady had spoken to us. It was humiliating. Soon, the waiter came to take our order - potato soup and goulash soup (these dishes had been praised in the reviews). The hot chocolate was fine, but I could barely taste it as my mood was completely ruined. All the good spirits we had entered the restaurant with evaporated, and the entire time we waited for our food, we felt the sting of what had happened. We’d entered with smiles, greeted everyone, and been perfectly polite - yet this lady treated us like a doormat simply because we didn’t want to drink. Now we had only one thing on our minds: to eat quickly, pay, and leave this place where we clearly weren’t welcome. The potato soup was a bit different from the ones I’d tried elsewhere in Germany - I didn’t taste much cream in it. It was still delicious, the spices were well-balanced, and I enjoyed it (as much as one can after such humiliation). The goulash soup was also a success, with generous pieces of meat; my father was pleased with his dish. We asked for the bill, paid, and left - never to return. I should emphasize that the waiter was absolutely professional; I even felt sorry about the small tip we left, but it was the only way to express our dissatisfaction with the lady taking the drink orders. I can confidently say that she was the rudest person my father and I met during our 17-day trip to Germany, and that people with "

"Firstly the location is excellent for all the services this pretty town offers The room we had , 301, was very nicely decorated and more than comfortable with a balcony overlooking the river , castle and the cafe life close by The breakfast room was also very beautifully decorated. The food on offer was extensive and very good quality but some reviews suggested it was the best in Europe which I would say is a little excessive- it was good though Down sides - there’s no long term parking on site though only a 5 minute walk Reception in 9-5.00 , at other times there’s a side door, which if you had come a long way were late tired etc it would not be the reception you deserve"
