"Our stay at Kamesei Ryokan was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. Owners Mari and Tyler are gracious hosts who provide a warm welcome and exceptional service. The traditional tatami room, relaxing onsen, and inviting surroundings created a perfect Japanese experience. The meals were outstanding—beautifully presented and among the best food we enjoyed during our travels. What makes Kamesei truly special is the attention to detail and genuine hospitality. If you're looking for a traditional Japanese inn with amazing food, a wonderful onsen, and hosts who go above and beyond, Kamesei Ryokan is an excellent choice. Highly recommended!"

"The room was average but spacious, the hot spring was nice, and the service was good. I had informed them I was bringing a baby, so they provided a diaper bag and baby bedding. The food was delicious and luxurious for the price, and the price was really low, so I'd rate this as "very good"! The location is also great. Kamiyamada Onsen has a shooting gallery and snack bar, and it feels like a hot spring town from the good old days. Drinks from the vending machines are free, and if you serve yourself from the beer server, beer is only 100 yen, which is really cheap. It's not a luxury inn, but it's a nice, rustic hot spring, and I'd love to go again."

"Extremely satisfied. The hotel had a strong Japanese style. The hot spring water temperature was perfect, making soaking in it very comfortable. Dinner service ended at 7 PM, and although we arrived at the hotel a little late, the restaurant waited for us – we were very grateful. The free shuttle bus from the hotel to Tokura Station departs at 10 AM, but to ensure we caught our 10:04 train, the driver left two minutes early, allowing us to catch our train. We were truly grateful. Very thoughtful and considerate service. Extremely satisfied."

"It was an amazing stay! The staff were incredibly friendly, and the natural onsen was wonderful. I even felt like my skin improved during our few days there. We were initially a bit worried because two people in our group have tattoos, but it wasn’t a problem at all (as long as the tattoos are covered and not too large). They even sell cover stickers at the reception (220 yen per sticker, size 10 × 20 cm), which was very convenient. Both the indoor and outdoor onsen areas were beautiful and very relaxing. Even though the rooms were traditional Japanese style and it was quite cold outside during our winter visit, the rooms were kept comfortably warm. The futons were super comfortable and we all slept very well. One thing to keep in mind though, is that the ryokan is about a 30-minute walk from the train station. It’s also a good idea to bring cash, as credit cards may not be accepted. That said, the town itself is quiet and charming. On the way to the station, you pass a lovely river with mountains in the background. Overall, we had a fantastic experience and would happily come back again!"

"Thank you very much for your help. It's been a long time since we went on a family trip, and it happened to be my husband's birthday, so it was a great memory. The hot water had a strong sulfur smell and felt like a hot spring. The food was also exceptional, with delicate and elegant plates made from local ingredients from Nagano that were a feast for the eyes. Although it is not a large inn, I was very satisfied with the heartfelt hospitality. I would definitely like to visit you again when I visit Nagano. Thank you!"

"It's a 5-minute walk to the station, which is very convenient. The small town is quiet and not crowded. The facilities are complete, and the breakfast is a Japanese buffet. If you want to experience a Japanese town, you can give it a try."

"I stayed here for a business trip. This is my fourth time here. The shower in the large communal bath has very strong water pressure and is comfortable to use. The breakfast is consistently delicious, so I basically stay here every time."

"The hot spring and the cleanliness of the facilities were very good, and we were looking forward to a relaxing stay. However, our dinner experience was extremely disappointing. We had a set dinner that included rice cooked at the table. Unfortunately, the rice never cooked properly. The explanation we received afterwards was confusing and contradictory: we were told it might have been due to opening the lid too early, but in fact only one person opened the lid right after the fire went out, while the other three of us waited the instructed 10 minutes. None of the rice was cooked properly. The staff told us this was a “rare case” and assured us it would not happen again. But since the real cause was never identified, we felt it could easily happen again to other guests. There was no alternative meal offered, and the handling of the situation was unsatisfactory. Another concern was that there was no manager on duty that evening. The staff seemed unsure how to handle the situation, which made us feel even more uneasy. For a hotel of this standard, I would expect a clear plan for how to deal with problems when a manager is not present. It is a pity, because other aspects of the stay were pleasant. But until the dinner service and management system are improved, I would hesitate to return or recommend this property."
