Oh Nice Ulises Ceuta

Ceuta|1.35km from downtown
Booked the more expensive room - a Superior Suite (about 140€/night) to celebrate our wedding anniversary on Christmas eve, having driven all the way from Meknes and a border crossing from Morocco to Spain. A very much prison warden like welcome - to be told that our request to have our Christmas eve dinner at the Hotel restaurant wasn't conaidered - they had not bothered to reply. The room was large, spacious, but not a suite for sure. The attitude was quite condescending. Subsequently we found every restaurant turning us away as they were full. Eventually had a late lunch at a lovely Chinese restaurant nearby. The streets were quite animated and packed... but magically by 10.00 everything quietened down and the whole place kind of became ghost townish. We asked for room service, only to be told off that we couldnt get anything...not even a coffee!! Finally picked up some bread n bananas and some whisky at a small conveinence store (also run by a friendly chinese couple).. spend the night very upset at the Hotel. I did go back to the Chinese restaurant who remained possibly the only place open - Really surprised by the attitude of the staff and the restaurants we tried. An Italian place next door to our Hotel was friendly, but fully booked too. One one day we did eat at a Fish place nearby, but only after veing firat turned away by one waiter, and then another waiter let us sit, like he was doing us a favour. Oh nice Ulises ..Not so nice because of the service. Location is great. A bit run down. The lifts are old and rickety. Our rooms toilet door made a racket with unoiled hinges. A smile and a little more welcoming, offering atleast some bread or a soup on Christmas eve, would have helped improve this rating.

Parador de Ceuta

Ceuta|0.86km from Parroquia de Santa Maria de Africa
My wife and I stayed for two nights in September. Unfortunately due to a user error on my behalf we arrived at the hotel but on line we had reserved a stay at a different Paradores hotel - many miles away. As we had just arrived on the ferry from Algeciras this did give us cause for concern - especially as we thought that we had lost the money that we had already paid for our reservation in the wrong hotel. But we should not have worried because the reception staff were brilliant they were able to cancel our reservation for the wrong hotel without any penalty and complete a new reservation for the right hotel !! We liked the hotel and staff so much that we decided to stay an extra night. The view from our room was fabulous and the pool was excellent. The breakfast was also very good with lots of choices and a cooked breakfast on request. Special mention for Maider Martinez and Frederico who are both a credit to the hotel and company. Maider would grace the reception of any international hotel her friendly manner and her professionalism is first class. Frederico was genuinely worried that we had arrived at the wrong hotel, he was also very professional and had a great sense of humour. The mistake that I made on the booking did give us all something to laugh about and I am sure we shall be remembered when we return for another visit as we found the hotel, and Ceuta very relaxing and a welcome break from Gibraltar.

The hotel is beyond your imagination! The hardware is very good, and it can capture the feeling of a palace at night, but because of the wind and rain, such a good facility is wasted. But the service is really good. First of all, the staff here are very good-looking. They are completely different from those with dark and short faces you see outside. From the entrance security, you feel a different aura! The guys at the front desk are excellent from tall stature to talking, which country they look at. Even a cleaning aunt, I thought I would have an old aunt, but she is actually a younger sister and is very beautiful! I took a picture of her and they immediately pose for me. In short, my impression of the Arabs has improved a lot! Secondly, the service is quite good. We are in the off-season and have almost no guests. Maybe there is no such treatment in the peak season. Indeed enjoyed the respected service! Stayed on the first day, it was windy and rainy, and I didn't want to go out for dinner. Living in such a wide hotel in such weather, without any guests, is prone to insecurity. So I called Room Service, thinking that it was the type that gave you a plate and then flashed people. As a result, two handsome guys came and showed us the whole set of dining table you enjoyed in the first class of the plane. Look at us dumbfounded! I ate here for dinner for the next few days, and the Western and Moroccan dishes were very delicious! The Taji pot that was scolded by all the raiders, the seafood we ordered was very delicious! During my stay, it happened to be my birthday, and my husband told the front desk. So he helped us set up the room and prepared the cake. Surprises again and again! This hotel can be very expensive in the summer. We are staying now and the price is not bad. I hope to stay next time!

Hotel Ceuta Puerta de Africa

Right from being greeted by the efficient reception staff to the amazing bar lady who went the extra mile for me, I knew that this was going to be a good stay. Although the staff all spoke good English, they indulged my poor Spanish and complimented me on how good it was. They couldn't be faulted at all. The hotel itself is bright, clean and welcoming. I particularly loved the lifts with their view of the lobby and floors as they went up and down. The room was a little larger than you'd get in a business hotel with ample space for luggage and a spacious bathroom. It was spotlessly clean. One doesn't travel to watch TV, but one English channel would have been welcome. That's my sole gripe but its nowhere near enough to drop a star from the rating. Free WiFi compensated for the TV. Breakfast is extra but it was worth it. A buffet with a large selection of cheeses and meats plus the usual jam, honey and croissants etc. These latter were very good quality. I have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and would stay there again.
