Nice surroundings Environment: Lakeside
James Bay Inn Hotel, Suites & Cottage

Booked for my wife and I to spend some time away exploring the Victoria and area. I initially booked the ”Petite Suite” which was just a bit too cozy for us (my fault - didn't read the details). Despite the busy time, the desk staff were incredibly gracious and worked to accommodate a swap to a larger room. Unfailingly helpful and polite - they made our stay. The actual Hotel is ridiculously charming and cozy, and ideally located within walking distance of various parks, pubs, restaurants, etc. When we come back to Victoria, we'll be at the James Bay Inn!
Hotel Rialto

It's a cute boutique hotel with friendly staff. There's only one elevator and surprisingly it was always available whenever we needed it. You can park on the street (parking meter) or at the parkade behind the red bldg which is across the street (though we didn't check it out). We arrived around 6 pm and had free parking in front of the hotel till 9 am Sunday. There was a fruit bowl and beverages at the front for guests. We had dessert at the hotel restaurant and it was delicious! We were on the top floor and the room was very clean, but I found the pillows very uncomfortable (too puffy and can't flatten them down) for my neck. Unfortunately we stayed during Saturday night and it was super noisy till late at night (from a few cars speeding at the nearby street to some people being very loud) - maybe it's not like that during the weekday. Chinatown, lots of restaurants and the harbour are within walking distance.
Red Lion Inn and Suites Victoria
4.1/5109 Reviews
We regularly stay at the Red Lion Inn and Suites (2 adults, 3 children - age 4, 10, 12) as it is the most affordable accommodation for our family of 5 when we need to spend a night or two in the city. The proximity to everything else is great, and although you do sometimes have to park a bit away, there is always ample parking (you can always load in/load out at the front). Somehow, the rooms are always so quiet - we were there this time when totally booked out and still no noise. In the summer, the outdoor pool is always a hit with the kids, it's always very clean and well kept. We've never had any issues with room cleanliness - we run a cleaning service in our small community that includes hospitality cleaning contracts, so we are pretty fussy, too! I love that the floors are all granite, gone are the days of gross hotel carpet!! The staff have always been really nice to us, and have accommodated our requests really well. Extra blankets and pillows, extra coffee - no problem. Late check out, usually no problem. My only critique that has only come up the last few visits is the set up for couch beds/extra bedding. I am certain that a number of years ago I stayed at the Red Lion with some family members, and I ended up sleeping on the pullout bed and it was like sleeping on a CLOUD it was so comfy. It was a proper pullout couch bed, and I think there was an added memory foam topper. I would gladly sleep on that again! The last few visits we have been, where the set up has been a suite with either a kind bed or two doubles in the bedroom and a couch bed in the living room, the couch bed has been a ”click clack” style bed, where the couch cushions are the bed. The bed is not made up for additional guests (which knowing from hospitality experience, is probably so that guests can enjoy the couch during non-sleeping hours) so it is on the guests to fold out the click clack bed and make up the bedding. Though totally passable and clean as a sleeping surface, the bed is really not very comfortable. As we have three daughters, we usually give them the bedroom and my husband and I sleep out on the couch bed. We're in our late 30's and after a day running around with those monsters we are tired and old and ready to sleep! I've also found that the bedding that is included for this bed to be some what insufficient - both times including the sheets, one pillow and the brown insulator blanket (i.e. there are not enough pillows or a comforter). Also, I think a rollaway bed option would be great, and I'd definitely pay to have that option. This past visit we were 5 to a suite, king bed in the room and double click clack couch. We made it work because our 3 girls are happy to be cozy and share a giant bed, but if the option were there we'd loved to have had a cot to toss the youngest on. That is all! We will absolutely be back time and time again, but this is the one thing we have not thoroughly enjoyed during our last few stays.
Accent Inns Victoria

The hotel in general was alright. Nothing too special or fancy. There was a good restaurant at the base called Bin 4. What makes this hotel not great is that from the time that we were there (3 nights), 4 car windows were smashed and broken into including our own car. There was nothing in the vehicle. It seemed just to happen for the purpose of breaking something. The worst part is the day if we had to do a 7 hour drive home taking the ferry and the Coquihalla. The hotel says there is 24/7 security and people at the hotel which just doesn’t make sense for so many vehicles being broken into. Of course the hotel isn’t ‘responsible’. May not be the place you want to stay and certainly don’t leave anything in your car.
