I had an exceptional stay at Andaz Xintiandi. When I arrived, I was so happy to see Peter at the front desk. He was as welcoming and nice as usual, and he arranged a great corner room for me. The room was wonderful, and I also got to try a new trial amenity they recently added: a massage tool for the bed in some of the rooms. It was so great that I didn’t want to get out of bed! It was very easy to use and available in multiple languages, which made it super convenient. Thank you to Peter and the team for another fantastic experience. Highly recommended, and I can’t wait to return!

First, let's talk about the pros: the hardware is very new (the air conditioning is a bit noisy, but acceptable), the room design is very functional, and the size is just right. Both the hallways and the rooms have a pleasant scent, the minibar soft drinks are complimentary, the bed is comfortable, and the location is convenient.

However, I suggest more refined and smoother staff training for customer service. During check-in, the staff seemed too busy either attending to guests or working on computers. A young man standing near the front desk just watched as we stepped out of the elevator, looking around to figure out where to check in. He just stood there watching without guiding us to an available agent. The staff at the counter were either busy with guests or staring down at their computers. We stood there for quite a while until we finally spoke up ourselves to say we wanted to check-in before someone assisted us.

As for breakfast, I really loved the freshly cooked noodles and unsweetened yogurt. However, the yogurt fridge was empty for a long time on one of the days and wasn't restocked. When I asked a server, it still wasn't refilled, which was a bit disappointing.

Finally, a compliment to the housekeeping staff—their lovely smiles and warm, friendly attitude were great.

Background: The main purpose of this trip was to explore Grand Resort Deck. Traveling with a 1-year-old toddler, our first choice was Galaxy Hotel, but unfortunately, it was fully booked. Only Broadway, Andaz, JW Marriott, and Capella were available. The latter two were over budget, and between the first two, we chose Andaz due to its better ratings.

Pre-trip impressions: Family-friendly. We needed to head over to Grand Resort Deck separately, and we were worried that managing a toddler and changing clothes on-site would be a hassle. Check-in would take time. The Galaxy resort area is quite suitable for families.

Pros: As generally mentioned in reviews, Andaz is very family-friendly, providing a baby bathtub, kids' toiletries, and adorable children's slippers. Getting to Grand Resort Deck was easier than expected. Walking from the hotel's main entrance around the roundabout (about 2-3 minutes on an outdoor pedestrian walkway) brings you to JW Marriott. Take the elevator up a few floors to the JW Marriott pool entrance, and a short walk from there leads to the Grand Resort Deck's Lazy River. Check-in was smooth and convenient; on the day of arrival, the hotel happened to have an additional check-in counter on the 1st floor, so the total process including waiting took less than 15 minutes. Hotel perks were fantastic, featuring welcome snacks and drinks, evening cocktails, a complimentary minibar, plus an extra gift of red wine and fruits—almost as if they were worried guests wouldn't have enough to eat and drink. As for children's facilities, guests and kids can enjoy a two-hour session at the Galaxy Kidz Club. Lastly, the hotel service was courteous. When calling the front desk, the staff addressed us by our surname (Mr. X / Ms. Y), which left a particularly deep and pleasant impression.

Cons: The morning buffet restaurant seemed unable to cope with the volume of guests. Arriving at 08:30 meant waiting in line, which is understandable. The issue was the restaurant's queue management: guests first had to register their room number at a desk to get a ticket, and then join a second queue to enter the restaurant. When I turned back after getting my ticket to join the entry queue, I noticed the line had suddenly surged. It seemed that many late-arriving guests had skipped the ticket desk and simply joined the entry queue directly, and the restaurant staff handed out tickets to them anyway. As a result, I had to wait an extra 5 to 7 tables' worth of time. Fellow travelers might want to keep this breakfast arrangement in mind.

Special thanks to Zora from the Guest Service Center for her attentive follow-up, helping to coordinate a late check-out for our meeting schedule, and for being so responsive throughout our stay. The room features a very stylish design, and my favorite is the vanity and walk-in closet—it's extremely practical. The bell staff provided attentive and dedicated service the entire time. The laundry service was fast, prompt, and accurate. The overall service experience was delightful, and I would definitely stay here again given the opportunity.
