"We arrived at Balugães on the Camino and contacted the hotel for help in getting there. Whilst it is only 3km away the walk takes about 45 minutes part of which is along a busy main road. The hotel kindly sorted out transport for us. On arrival, our host noticed that my daughter and I had booked a room with a double bed and quickly tried to exchange our room for twin beds. Set in a secluded location with lovely views, which included an old viaduct, before we knew it we were seated by the pool resting our weary bones. We were joined by other guests and were happy to chat with them. Our room was clean and comfortable and furnished in the traditional manner in what it appeared to be an old stable. Whilst the room was fairly dark we were only there to sleep and we had everything we needed. I was concerned that the mattress was rather firm but in the end I slept like a log, possibly because it was so quiet. Dinner was served in the very grand dining hall. We were seated at the table with the other guests and enjoyed a lovely evening. All the diners were walkers and we bumped into them, at different times, later on in our Camino. The food was good Portuguese fare. Breakfast was simple and, in my opinion, there was nothing lacking. We left the hotel fully satisfied."

"We had all-you-can-eat fruit for breakfast, and the fact that there was a bathtub was great for me to take a bath while walking along the Camino! The service was also very good. I asked the waiter where I could buy food. After all, it was New Year's Eve, and the shops were closed. So the waiter explained in detail where there were vending machines where I could buy food. It was so detailed that I didn't even need my phone to find it."

"Casa de Santa Comba is absolutely lush. The staff are very relaxed and flexible, having to arrive late was no problem, and they were very accommodating of us at breakfast as were vegetarian and there aren’t many vegetarians in Portugal! They were also very accommodating when we requested a fridge for our wine. The building and surrounding estate is beautiful, with lots of animals around – geese, horses, dogs, swallows, fish in the ponds – and lots of lemon trees bursting with fruit and beautiful flower bushes everywhere. A dreamy place, would love to stay here again. Will miss the bright morning song of the canary in their office which you can hear from the breakfast room!"

"as soon as you enter the double doors your are met by a warm and friendly member of staff.my room (santiago)was a joy to stay in with a large comfortable double bed and a single bed,very good shower with the toilet separate from it,no tv.breakfast is set in a room where they used to do the wine pressing which still remains and looked very impressive.good size gardens which were great to relax in and with this property right on the caminho and a cafe and a couple of restaurants a short walk away it has a lot going for it and one i wouldn't hesitate to recommend."

"We spent a wonderful week in Portugal. The house is great with some history in it. Super fun for the kids since they have so much stuff to do. They enjoyed the movie theater a lot."
