"My son and I (and two dogs) stayed here for one night during a road trip for hiking. From reading the old reviews it seems like the new owners have really been putting in hard work to bring this place back to life; they are still working on it but everything was clean and amenities have been upgraded from previous photos such as flat screen tv with plenty of satellite channels and a ceiling fan with a remote (which I had to take a picture of because I loved it and want to find one for myself). If you want fancy and new this isn't the place for you but if you are like me and enjoy the motels with midcentury history but modern upgrades, it's a great stay. They accommodated my dogs for a lower pet fee than anywhere else and the customer service couldn't have been any better. I'd definitely stay again."

"Just returned home from a 3 night stay at Marriott in Sugar Mountain/ Banner Elk. Had a wonderful time there, partly because the staff was super friendly, accommodating and attentive and also because of the ease of getting to golf, shops and restaurants. Lowe's grocery came in handy and we had a great dinner at Reid's Cafe. Both are an easy walk from the hotel. I had 3 meals at the hotel that were all very good and enjoyed the full bar in the evenings. Would highly recommend!"
