"Stepping through the doors of the Gran Hotel de Paraguay is like being transported back in time. The entire hotel complex is beautiful, from its gardens and halls to each of its corridors and rooms. Despite all the renovations the city has undergone, which have swept away countless historic buildings, this one remains practically as it must have been in its heyday. Furthermore, the staff is incredibly friendly, the location is quite good for getting to the city center (although you'll need a taxi or Uber), and the breakfast is varied and delicious. Perhaps the only things we would improve are the maintenance of some areas and slightly better room cleaning. Although we understand that in such old buildings surrounded by gardens, this isn't always easy. In any case, it's a highly recommended option, offering excellent value for money, for accommodation in Asunción."

"Fantastic German breakfast each morning with a TON of options, very comfortable bed, lovely room, air conditioning, fridge, hot pot (so you can make your own tea or whatever on demand in your room), wi-fi, and SUPER friendly staff. It's small and in a great location - you can safely walk right around the corner to a large convenience store. Pool was out of service when I was there, but that was okay, because the temperature dropped and it was too cold for a swim."

"It depends on the time of day, but if you get caught in traffic, it can take a while. I arrived on an early morning flight and went to the hotel, where I was allowed to check in early and was able to get a good night's rest. The hotel is fully equipped with a kitchen and cooking appliances, so you can shop at a nearby supermarket and cook. The front desk staff don't speak English, but they used a translation app to help me understand the information I needed."

I highly recommend the attached restaurant, Musica, for dinner. It is an independent business, not run by the hotel, and the prices are very reasonable considering the quality of food. The chef is Peruvian and makes excellent ceviche."
