Romantik Hotel Säntis ★★★★

"I would consider it a classic old european hotel. Very fitting for the town of Appenzell. No elevators so you have to bring up your bags by the stairs. Small hallway, room and bathroom. Tight bedroom with a soft bed that was way to low to the floor. No A/C so we needed to keep windows open at night. Euro Cup was going on so a lot of car honking after the match that night. The Swiss must of won that night. Part of the fun when you travel. The shower was of good size with great pressure. Located in the center of town with parking in the plaza and in a near by garage. Staff at the front desk, wine later in the evening and at breadkfast where all very nice. The hotel is known for its exstensive wine selection. Had a glass ot two and they are right. Delicious."

"It was a nice weekend visit of Appenzell. The hotel is located on the main square of the city. We had a good room with a cot provided for free. Comfy beds, bath, wardrobe, a couple of arm chairs and a table, free WiFi. Breakfast was fresh, tasty and with many options. We had a dinner at the hotel and were satisfied with ordered dishes. If you are with small children, you could find some books, colouring books, some toys and entertaining items. Besides restaurant, the hotel has its own bakery / cafeteria, which is open all day long. To my taste, food in the restaurant was a bit salty. "

Hotel Hecht Appenzell ★★★

"This hotel was booked by our tour (Rick Steve's). I can't figure out how it gets 4.5 stars. It doesn't have air conditioning, which is really bad in August, but pretty typical for much of Europe, especially in the old town. But not having a fan is just ridiculous. I mean, I know the Swiss are known to be cheep, but a fan casts maybe $50 max? The church bell just rang for the first time since we got here, and it is very loud, but with or without the church bell, I'm not going to be able to sleep tonight on the 4th floor (5th floor by American standards) 85 degrees, no breeze. I'm sitting here sweating doing nothing. I even took a cold shower, and that helped for about 30 min. I hope the owner reads these reviews and breaks down and buys some fans! I'd probably give it four stars if I had a fan. This is the morning after. Although I was still sweating at midnight, I did fall asleep and didn't awaken until 6am when the church bells woke me up. So I got a better night sleep than I expected. I still think it's extremely cheap of them to not buy fans, but we were told they are always full, so no reason to make their customers more comfortable."
