Kusatsu Onsen Boun
9.3 (191 reviews)

Kusatsu Onsen Boun ★★★★

📍 Kusatsumachi 433-1, Kusatsu

"One of the more superior ryokans we stayed in. Awesome onsen, both indoors and outdoors, with excellent service from all staff. Upon entering the car park, staff will come with umbrellas to help with luggage and it was a very very light drizzle. We had dinner in the room and breakfast in the common area but still segregated for privacy. The food was delicious- we had wagyu and enjoyed it very much. When we left, the owner’s daughter was sending us off at the entrance. 100% would return for another stay if we venture to Kusatsu onsen again."

Shima Yamaguchikan ★★★

📍 Shima, 甲3876-1, Nakanojo

"This was my first experience with a semi-open-air onsen in Japan, and it had a wonderful nostalgic charm. The environment was peaceful and comfortable, with the inn surrounded by a forest. I was fine with a few small insects passing by. The Kaiseki dinner had a great variety of ingredients. They also had staff who spoke English, which was a big plus! It's definitely best if you're driving. I would go again!"

"A very classic traditional Japanese hot bath hotel, but the wooden pieces and parts are too old with black colors. Services are very good"

La Vista Kusatsu Hills

La Vista Kusatsu Hills ★★★★★

📍 Agatsuma District, 226 番15, Kusatsu

"I am very grateful that there is hotspring serving directly in my room. In addition to that, there are 4 more private hotspring rooms which can be freely used 24h whenever they are not occupied. My room is a lot bigger than what I expected. The meals are good and the staff are friendly. There are lots of free servings such as draft beer during different time of the day. There is scheduled shuttle bus going between the hotel and the central area."

Manza Kogen Hotel

Manza Kogen Hotel ★★★

📍 Hoshimata 2401, Tsumagoi

"We had a wonderful stay at Manza Kogen Hotel. Its mountain location offers a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, making it a perfect place to unwind and enjoy nature. The onsen facilities were excellent, with a variety of hot spring baths that were both relaxing and enjoyable. The breakfast was also very good, featuring a delicious selection of traditional Japanese cuisine that gave us a great start to each day. The only downside was the lack of Wi-Fi in our room, which made it inconvenient to stay connected. However, this was a minor issue compared to the overall experience. Overall, Manza Kogen Hotel is a great choice for anyone looking for a quiet mountain retreat with excellent hot springs and authentic Japanese hospitality."

Kusatsu Onsen-Kanemidori Ryokan
9.3 (119 reviews)

Kusatsu Onsen-Kanemidori Ryokan ★★★★

📍 162 Kusatsu-machi, Kusatsu

"This is my second stay at Kinryo, mainly because I couldn't forget the hotel's hot spring baths. Besides the open-air rotenburo, there are two indoor baths. The hotter one, around 44℃, is my favorite. The water quality is excellent, sourced directly from Yubatake, and leaves my skin feeling incredibly smooth after a soak. A triple dip a day quickly melts away all fatigue. The hotel is conveniently located about a 3-4 minute walk up a slope from the bus station towards Yubatake, in a very secluded spot. While the hotel's entrance is unassuming, the interior facilities are complete and impeccably maintained. Only guests are allowed in, ensuring safety and privacy, and creating a consistent guest profile. The stay includes two meals (dinner and breakfast), both served as kaiseki. Even in the tatami private rooms, you sit on slightly raised seating, which I found much more comfortable. The food is fresh and delicious, and you can truly feel the chef's dedication. For dinner, they offer three flavors of miso, and I particularly loved the chicken miso. You can purchase it at the gift shop next to the lobby. After buying it, the staff told me they'd give it to me upon check-out, ensuring freshness by keeping it refrigerated until then. (Attention to detail is superb!) There's also a restaurant called Aspen just 2-3 minutes' walk from the hotel. Whenever I stay at a hot spring hotel in Kusatsu, I always choose Aspen for lunch. It's incredibly convenient from Kinryo. Their cakes are delicious, and the atmosphere is very pleasant. After dinner, I always enjoy a stroll to Yubatake to aid digestion. Standing by the "waterfall" and letting the warm sulfurous steam wash over me for a while, taking in that unique hot spring scent, is truly relaxing."

Kamenoi Hotel Kusatsu Yubatake
8.7 (176 reviews)

Kamenoi Hotel Kusatsu Yubatake ★★★★

📍 512-3 Kusatsu, Kusatsu

"My stay at Kamenoi Hotel Kusatsu was excellent. The onsen was very clean and quite spacious, making it a relaxing experience. The hotel also has a convenient shortcut that leads directly to the Yubatake pedestrian area, which is a big plus. Both breakfast and dinner were buffet-style with a wide variety of dishes — plenty of options and all very enjoyable. The service was great, and the room was comfortable to sleep in. The only downside is that there were a bit too few power outlets in the room, but it wasn’t a major problem. Overall, a fantastic stay and highly recommended for anyone visiting Kusatsu."

Urakusatsu Tou

Urakusatsu Tou ★★★★

📍 300 Kusatsu, Kusatsu

"Hotel parking too far from the hotel. Only one hour allowance given to remove the car after check out which is not convenient for guests. Private bath is not so good compared to public onsen in the hotel. However breakfast and dinner served were delicious."

Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Ichii

Kusatsu Onsen Hotel Ichii ★★★★

📍 411Kusatsu, Kusatsu

"Amazing! Kusatsu was a wonderful surprise. It's not too far from Tokyo, but the experience was fantastic. The hotel is right in the central square, and the 'yumomi' hot water stirring performance is right at the entrance – the location couldn't be better! The hotel itself is huge, and the meals are incredibly generous. They also included a 1,000 yen Kusatsu Onsen food voucher! This could be used at restaurants nearby. Since we had meals booked at the hotel, we used it at a pickle shop across the street and bought lots of preserved vegetables. Perfect to eat with congee back home, haha, definitely suited our Chinese palates."

Tsumagoi Prince Hotel Hotels in Agatsuma District

Tsumagoi Prince Hotel

"Our room had a mountain view, and it was nice and open with a wide view of the sky. The room was spacious and there was a sofa, and there was plenty of room to spread out our carrier. Best of all, there was no step to get to the unit bath! I think this is rare and really appreciated. The water pressure in the shower in the private room was good and we could switch it on, which was great. As we were on top of the mountain, the path to get there was rough and there were monkeys around, so we hurried to get there before the sun went down, and we weren't able to buy dinner in town, so we had to eat cup ramen. It would have been nice if the convenience store, which is open until 9pm, had a few more options for late-night snacks."

"When I went to use the onsen at night, there were no towels in the public bath, where they should have been. This meant I had to bring the towels from my room, leaving me with none for the room itself. I also noticed many guests struggling with the shortage of yukatas. However, the room was clean and the large TV made for a very comfortable stay^_^"

"Although the hotel is a bit old, it exudes a peaceful and beautiful atmosphere. It is about a 10-minute walk from Kusatsu Onsen Station and only a 1-minute walk from Yubatake! You can also see Guangquan Temple outside the hotel. The Guangquan Temple is very beautiful when it is lit up at night. A highlight of the hotel is that each room is equipped with a private hot spring room, allowing us to enjoy exclusive hot spring time at any time and completely relax our body and mind without having to share it with others. The design of the bathhouse is simple and elegant, and the wooden decoration adds a warm atmosphere. Our group booked two rooms, which were just equipped with two hot spring houses. The hotel was very considerate and arranged different spring qualities, so that we could experience different springs at the same time, fully enjoy the unique charm of Kusatsu Onsen, and feel the different effects of each spring water. The healing effect. Travelers who like public hot springs can also choose to use the hotel’s public hot spring pool. Although we were unable to experience it this time, I believe this is also a good choice. We chose the one night, two meals plan which included dinner and breakfast. The dinner was exquisite and the ingredients were carefully selected. The main dish was Sukiyaki of Joshu beef, which was delicious and generous in size. When checking in, the receptionist asked if you didn't eat beef, but since my family members didn't have any dietary restrictions, I didn't know if you didn't eat beef. What item will be replaced? The breakfast is a rich Japanese set meal with various side dishes. If you have special needs, we recommend that you contact the hotel directly by phone. Due to limited manpower, you may not get an immediate response via email."

"The service was very enthusiastic. The flat parking lot was very convenient. Every day there was a shuttle bus to take guests to the hot spring area, pedestrian street attractions. The buffet breakfast and dinner were very rich, with many delicious options. The hot springs were excellent. However, there's a very slippery step when entering the hot spring pool. I personally witnessed people slipping and falling hard there for two consecutive days. This really should be improved, as personal safety measures are very important."

"Very atmospheric and cozy ryokan. Traditional style room and majestic mountains view are breathtaking. The food is fantastic, you dine privately in peace and also provided with unlimited amount of drinks for 90 minutes. There are private and common (men/women) baths available. Water temperature is comfortable and magically washes away your fatigue. Personnel is kind and helpful, they used translator to explain everything to me. I was provided with shuttle bus on check-in and check-out to nearby station (kawaryo onsen station). This place is perfect if you want to detox from city bustle and cleanse your thoughts. Nearby konbini is 1h away on foot (or 15 min on car) so I advise you to stock up your supplies in advance if you need any."

"There are many slopes in the area, but I was very grateful to be able to go to the inn on a flat road from the Yubatake. The room was very clean and nice. The accessories and interior were cute! I was happy that the room had a hot spring! The free breakfast was also luxurious. What impressed me was the miso soup, which was delicious with lots of ingredients! When you leave the inn, there are two famous manju shops and a popular pudding shop, so I think it's the perfect place if you want to go around local specialities. Sainokawara Onsen was also less than 15 minutes away on foot."

Kusatsu Onsen Ryokan Yoshinoya Hotels in Agatsuma District

Kusatsu Onsen Ryokan Yoshinoya

"Had a fantastic stay in this ryokan in Dec 2025. Location was central and a short walk to the Yubatake and Kosenji Temple. There was water and popsicle available for guests after using the onsen. The breakfast, while described as ‘light’, did offer a good choice of croissant, bread, sausage, egg etc. Room was sizeable. Only shortcoming might be that because it is so central, it did not come with parking for guests. I parked at free parking at the entrance of Kusatsu, which was about a 10 minutes walk away."

Matsumuraya Ryokan

"Super cozy ryokan with a nice little onsen. Large rooms with private toilet. The location is fantastic, as it is a 3-minute walk from the square with the hot springs. Our host was really nice and helpful. He made our beds beautifully while we were out in the city, which has a lot to offer in terms of sightseeing and good food. We ate tempura fried local mushrooms at Kamon, which is definitely worth a recommendation. We felt really comfortable in the city and at our ryokan."

"The nighttime illumination was beautiful, and I enjoyed taking pictures! The building felt clean and didn't show its age, and I didn't notice any noise leakage. The food is Japanese cuisine. Since it's a set course in the evening, I recommend going with an empty stomach!"

"This private onsen (hot spring) is absolutely perfect for shy people! All three private, reserved baths were incredibly clean, and I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in them. However, there was no air conditioning in the room, so I woke up in the middle of the night feeling hot. I had to leave the balcony door open to cool down. It probably wouldn't be an issue in winter, but in summer, you'd have to sleep with the door open. Overall, I'm very satisfied."

"I appreciate the service and facilities in the hotel. Although the location is a bit far away from the hot spring street, the environment is very quiet and pleasant. I must commend the hotel staff who helped my son to search his missing door key. They are very helpful and polite. It is really a good experience to share."

Kusatsu Onsen-Kanemidori Ryokan ★★★★
"I booked a Western-style room on the platform, but upon arrival at the hotel, I found it wasn't the room I booked. I immediately contacted the hotel, but they claimed that a Japanese-style room with two futons was a Western-style room. I confirmed with the platform that the hotel had indeed made a mistake, but the hotel manager came twice and insisted there was no error. I showed him my room confirmation from the platform before they finally adjusted the room. The whole process took almost 30 minutes to get to my room. The hotel manager was clearly deliberately giving me a lower-priced room to collect a higher price, as my room cost over 600 RMB more than the room they arranged. 2. The door to the women's bathhouse had been broken for a long time; it could only be entered sideways and couldn't be opened fully. 3. The service was poor. They didn't greet guests. I only encountered a staff member by chance in the hallway, and after missing them, they suddenly remembered and turned back to ask if I needed any snacks in my room. Quite amusing, isn't it? If I hadn't encountered them, would they have stopped asking about my needs? Fortunately, the platform was very supportive throughout the process, communicating online multiple times, calling several times, and even offering a discount. I'm very grateful. 🙏"

"We had a wonderful stay at Kamenoi Hotel. The hot spring (onsen) was excellent, and the quality of the water was amazing. It was one of the highlights of our stay. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets offered a wide variety of dishes, giving us the chance to try many different kinds of Japanese food, and everything was delicious. The hotel has a convenient shortcut to Yubatake, making it very easy to walk there. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We also appreciated being able to leave our luggage both before check-in and after check-out, which made our trip much more convenient. Free parking was included, which was very helpful as we were travelling by car. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐"

"We had a wonderful stay at Urakusatsu Tou, a brand-new hotel that truly exceeded our expectations. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly escorted by the staff. Although parking was allocated at a private outdoor parking area, the hotel thoughtfully provided an escort service, making the process very smooth and comfortable. The room was spacious and beautifully designed. Communication was easy as the receptionist spoke fluent English. The hotel also provided pajamas and daily clothing, which was a lovely and convenient touch. The onsen experience was outstanding—definitely one of the best we’ve ever had. You can immediately feel your skin becoming smooth after soaking, which made each visit incredibly relaxing. We stayed for three nights with both breakfast and dinner included. Meals were served à la carte, and the menu changed daily, surprising us every time. The food was delicious and very filling—we were completely satisfied after every meal. That said, there are a few areas we hope the hotel could improve: • During winter, the room felt quite cold as the air-conditioning heater did not function properly and was unable to warm up the room. • Breakfast hours could be extended a little later for guests who prefer a more relaxed morning. • Providing a choice of pillows would further improve sleeping comfort. • The blue indicator light on the room’s control panel remains very bright even when all lights are turned off, which can be a bit distracting at night. Overall, this hotel offers excellent service, comfort, and an unforgettable onsen and dining experience. Highly recommended, and we believe it will be even better with these small improvements."
