"The hotel itself is good, and I noticed many foreign guests staying here. I'm giving full marks (5/5) for hygiene and environment. The room was very clean, and the hotel environment was also excellent. The room facilities are neither new nor old, which is understandable given it's an established hotel. However, the service at this type of hotel really lags behind... 1. For such a large hotel, there's no proper hotel WeChat concierge to contact. This became even more frustrating when the room service phone line was busy. 2. Upon check-in, we weren't proactively informed about breakfast times, its location, or Wi-Fi information. Even though we had children with us (and noted it in the booking), no children's amenities were provided in the room. We eventually had to call room service to have them delivered. 3. The hotel only has one delivery robot, which couldn't keep up during peak hours. It took quite a while for takeout to be delivered to the room. 4. Some items in the hotel room felt rather superfluous, such as the in-hotel cultural guide. Perhaps foreign guests would find it more interesting. I suggest the hotel differentiate its target audience. 5. Rooms with bathtubs don't proactively provide disposable bath liners; you have to contact the front desk if you need one. 6. The hotel's own kids' play area is quite small, probably only suitable for children under three. 7. There's a queue and crowd control during breakfast peak hours. Other notes: The hotel's travel photography, Hanfu experience, and Qipao experience require self-booking, as the front desk doesn't make reservations for you, which is a bit inconvenient. There aren't many costume options in the experience areas, but it's okay for a try. The Hanfu studio and travel photography are from the same vendor, while the Qipao studio is a different one, and both services were good."

"Our stay this time truly exceeded expectations, and I have to give a special shout-out to Auntie Hu Chuanqin, who was responsible for cleaning our room! She was incredibly thoughtful and observant. Since we had an extra bed added to our room, she immediately realized there were three of us staying. On the day we checked in, not only did she clean the room spotlessly, but she also proactively replenished our water supply. She specifically told me, “I know there are three of you staying, and the original amount of water wouldn't be enough, so I directly put in six bottles for you.” Hearing that instantly warmed my heart! The next day when she came to clean, she maintained the same thoughtful standard. This kind of service, where the guest's needs are genuinely taken to heart, truly makes for a comfortable stay. I highly recommend it to everyone! Plus, when my family was traveling, the door to my parents' room wasn't fully closed when they left, and Auntie Hu specifically came to remind them, which we were very grateful for. Thumbs up for the housekeeping service. The front desk staff were also responsive, always smiling, and very accommodating, which made us very happy. It was a much more pleasant experience than our stay at the Ritz-Carlton last month. We will definitely be back!"

"First off, my child absolutely loved our stay in Xuzhou. They were so sad to leave! The staff were all incredibly warm and welcoming, even providing complimentary breakfast and toiletries for my little one. The front desk lady was very kind and gentle. The location is super convenient with the Metro Line 1 station (Xuzhou East) directly accessible, and attractions like Wenmiao Temple, Huilongwo, Fuguo Street, and Hubu Mountain are all within walking distance. The underground area connects to Suning Plaza, making shopping and dining a breeze. Golden Eagle and Wenmiao Street are right next door, and there are many small bars and snack stalls around in the evening – perfect for a stroll. Definitely a big recommendation! We stayed on the 55th floor, which my child adored. The room itself was pretty standard but clean, tidy, and well-equipped. Given the quality of the hotel and the service from the staff, it absolutely deserves a five-star rating. The breakfast was also absolutely fantastic with plenty of seating. I'll definitely stay here again on my next visit to Xuzhou!"

Hotel near Guanqian Street Area (Downtown),Suzhou
The Scholars Hotel Suzhou Pingjiangfu (Shuxiangshijia Huisuojiudian Suzhou Pingjiangfudian) is located in the heart of Suzhou old town and handy for visiting the many local attractions and classical Chinese gardens found there. An attractive hotel, it features traditional Chinese-style architecture, courtyards featuring pools of water and sculptured rock. Guestrooms boast contemporary furnishings with traditional touches and all the usual amenities required for a comfortable stay.

"The front desk service was excellent, truly outstanding! I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the young man and young lady who assisted me last night. The five-star rating is purely for them. BUT!!! BUT!!! The hotel's pricing is completely opaque and arbitrary. Booking through Ctrip was even more expensive than the on-site price. After I raised concerns about the price difference, they started making all sorts of excuses, mentioning differences in breakfast inclusion or bundled packages. However, first, there were NO options for this when I booked! No choice for whether I wanted breakfast or not, just one order! One selection! Second, the so-called bundled items in the package, supposedly making up a 'set,' were actually quite misleading: [1] The 'coffee' was just a cup from the front desk's coffee machine. [2] The 'cheongsam experience' was with an outsourced company, and if you wanted to take photos, you had to add them on WeChat and pay an additional 158 yuan for makeup and styling, which was only available during specific time slots; miss it and there'd be no makeup artist, so no participation. [3] The 'two noodle coupons' meant you could have noodles during lunch or dinner, but I didn't use them. [4] The 'Pingtan performance' was also only in the evening; the theater doors were mostly closed during the day. [5] The afternoon 'handicraft class' required a separate payment. [6] The 'Tai Chi experience' was essentially the staff's live stream content during their work hours; guests could join if they woke up early enough, but the instructor would broadcast anyway. Also, the 'Half Garden visit' was less than 5 minutes, not very big, and already free to the public during the day. Third, the room type descriptions were not transparent, with price differences of at least 200 yuan or more. When I called to complain, I saw the price was still over 800 yuan. After I complained, the on-site price was 599 yuan, and when I checked the system again, it had also adjusted to 599 yuan, but for a different room type called 'Shuxiang King Room,' while the on-site one was an 'Elegant Mansion King Room.' In short, there are many hidden tricks, and the room itself was quite ordinary. Fourth, speaking of the room, when I inquired about the price difference, they claimed they had upgraded my room the day before (implying I got a good deal). But first, the upgrade wasn't something I requested; it was a voluntary perk offered by the hotel, and then they used this act to subtly criticize me. Second, the description of this room type was also very unclear; the 'upgraded' room was called 'Yijing Room,' but from check-in to check-out, I couldn't open the curtains because there was a residential building directly opposite, a wall's length away. Everything was clearly visible, and privacy couldn't be guaranteed. The explanation for which building was which situation was entirely up to the hotel staff, and the names were all over the place. Again, the key point is the consumer's right to choose and right to information. Whether breakfast was included in the order, and how many portions, the actual details of the package contents, and whether consumption was bundled, all should be clearly marked for consumers to choose freely, according to their budget, rather than vaguely writing a bunch of things inconsistent with reality and then playing word games when questioned. As of the completion of this review, Ctrip's customer service supervisor helped resolve the issue and promised to modify the consumption prompts, including whether consumption is bundled. I advise everyone to pay close attention when placing an order and confirm the content and amount. What the hotel has going for it is its good location and cleanliness, and the staff's attitude is great. However, the entire bundled consumption mechanism means that consumers' right to information is not guaranteed, and I cannot agree with or understand that."

I arrived in pouring rain. I thought I could walk to my hotel but it was impossible in the downpour. I didn’t want to bother any hotel owner.   I didn’t and still don’t  have an eSIM that can make local  call but thanks to Trip.com, there is a link that I could call the owner for free.  I didn’t advise the owners my arrival time so they were off running errands.  I called the owner to pick me up and thankfully he answered. He was busy but gracious enough to turn around and picked me up. It knew Zhouhuang requires a ticket but I didn’t know that no cars, nor motorcycles, nor bicycles are allowed. Without him I would have arrived the hotel easily.  I always like to meet the owners instead of employees . They were very helpful and answered all my questions. They are honest people who dedicate their  blood and sweat to their business. The owner even offered to walk me to the bus stop  to Suzhou which was my next destination.  This  operates two hotels with 9 in one and 6 in the other. The one that I stayed in with 9 rooms is in a  lively and busy area . Just outside the hotel is a restaurant and there are plenty of places to eat. Inside the hotel is a peaceful oasis where you won’t hear any noise. The location is the best. The other hotel is in a quieter neighborhood a few minutes away. Each of the 15 rooms has it’s own personality, is different and has its distinctive decoration. The owners said they decorated them themselves. I love the decoration and especially the lighting.  After you reserve a room, be sure to contact the owner for the exact address in case you want to arrive on your own. I think it is best to request the owner to take you there because he/she will lead you to the ticket booth to buy tickets. There are a number of bridges so heavy big luggages can be a bit of a challenge .  If you arrive after 5 pm, you can enter free of charge as no one is there to check your ticket. . But once you are inside, and if you choose to leave the area after 8 or 9 am until 5 pm, you have to pay to come back in. You can buy a one day or in my case 3 days pass.  Do check with the owner for up to date information.  The room was quite clean. There were hot water all the time. There were other guests during my stay but they were not noisy at all. I barely heard them. I slept very well during my 3 nights there.  Zhouhuang is really beautiful. There are many canals, bridges, boat rides, good food of all kinds. I had some of the best meals there. In fact , I ate in the same restaurant that serves dumpling twice. One night I had grill (BBQ) meat just outside the entrance for 4 yuans. .  There is decent size supermarket just outside the turnstile and not too far away is a much bigger supermarket. It was there where I bought half a Peking duck for only 32 yuans . The seller sliced the meat and separated the meat from  the bones. The bones he fried so it was crunchy.  It was delicious. There is a theater that offers performances. The night view is great. If you step out your room, you will be overwhelmed in a good sense by the exciting surroundings.  This hotel definitely is one of the best that I have ever stayed in. Look at the beautiful pictures and find one that you like.  I stayed only 3 nights and one of those days I went to Tongli. In my opinion, one should spend at least 2 to 3 full days in  Zhouhuang (and especially this hotel ) savor the ambience. I don’t think Tongli is worth the time because it was twice as expensive and there are not that many canals and boat rides. It is much quieter and has fewer things to see. . The worst is that the sightseeing places require you to show your ticket. After 2 places, I lost mine ticket and I  couldn’t get in the rest of the places. It is unnecessary to require proof of entrance because you can’t enter the area without a ticket.

I was very satisfied with this homestay. They thoughtfully provided disposable towels and bath bags, and all the cups were individually packaged after being disinfected, which made me feel very secure! The strong Chinese style was amazing as soon as I opened the door – exactly my kind of aesthetic. Plus, there were toys my child loved! The location is also very convenient, with all the attractions within walking distance. There's also a cute little dog named Maikai. The breakfast was simple but nutritious, and again, just my style! I was initially asked by the hotel to leave a five-star review, but after my full stay I can’t do so in good conscience, and I have since adjusted my rating based on the second half of my booking. This was a two-part stay (two separate bookings of five days each), and while there are genuinely strong positives, the overall experience was significantly affected by ongoing service and cleanliness issues. There are still clear strengths to highlight. The location is excellent—quiet, safe, and surrounded by good restaurants, convenience stores, and a pleasant park nearby. The rooms are also very well designed: spacious, comfortable, and equipped with useful amenities such as a washing machine. The layout and overall setup make it a very livable space. The staff were, for the most part, kind and helpful. One staff member in particular was consistently warm and welcoming. When issues were raised, the team did attempt to respond professionally, and I do appreciate that some solutions were offered, including a discounted rate for a future stay. However, there were repeated concerns that affected my experience, particularly during the second half of my stay. Cleanliness remained a consistent issue. Even after rooms were serviced, dust accumulated very quickly—so much so that items like my laptop would be visibly covered overnight. This raises concerns about the overall level of cleanliness and ventilation. In addition, housekeeping services felt inconsistent. On multiple occasions I had to specifically request basic essentials such as bottled water and fresh towels, rather than these being proactively restocked daily as would normally be expected in this type of accommodation. Service consistency also varied. Some days staff would check in or ask whether I needed room cleaning, while on other days there was no such follow-up at all. This lack of routine made the experience feel unpredictable for a stay of this length. There were also concerns regarding pricing and communication during an attempted extension of my stay. I had initially paid approximately 268 rand per night (already at a discounted rate). When I asked to extend for one additional night during the May Day holiday period, I was quoted around 800 rand. While I understand that rates fluctuate during peak demand, this felt inconsistent given the earlier discount offered due to the significant issues experienced in the first rooms. The handling of this request also felt quite rigid initially, although the pricing discussion changed once I indicated I would be leaving a review. By that point, however, I had already made alternative arrangements in another city. I also noticed a change in overall tone and attentiveness from staff following my initial complaints, particularly on the day I was trying to extend my stay. In that instance, even basic housekeeping services were not offered, which contributed to a feeling of inconsistency in service. Ultimately, I think this hotel has strong potential. The location, room design, and general setup are genuinely excellent, and there are staff members who are clearly committed and welcoming. However, the inconsistency in cleanliness standards, basic housekeeping expectations, and service delivery means I cannot recommend it as a reliably high-quality stay at this stage. With more consistent attention to cleanliness and service fundamentals, this could be an excellent hotel experience—but in its current state, it falls short of that standard.

The hotel itself is good, and I noticed many foreign guests staying here. The Hanfu studio and travel photography are from the same vendor, while the Qipao studio is a different one, and both services were good.

The rooms are cozy, comfortable, and impeccably clean. The bed was very comfortable, and the toiletries and storage facilities were all complete. The staff, Mango, Orange, and Apple, were warm, friendly, and efficient in processing my check-in. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I've already recommended it to my friends!

The front desk staff were incredibly helpful. As soon as I walked in, someone greeted me. I mentioned I had food that needed microwaving, and they happily obliged. Later, I asked if I could store some leftover takeout in the fridge, and they assisted me with that too. The common areas and restrooms were constantly being cleaned by an attendant, so everything was super clean and tidy. The room itself was also great. I booked a quad room and met two lovely ladies who I instantly clicked with; we even went out for dinner and shopping together. The hostel also has a self-service washing machine, which is free to use – excellent!
