I had a pleasant stay at Art Hotel Kagoshima. The hotel offers a beautiful view of Sakurajima, especially from the rooms facing the bay — waking up to that scenery was truly memorable.
The staff were friendly, polite, and helpful throughout my stay. Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the overall service felt professional and efficient.
The room was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything I needed for a short stay. The bed was cozy, and the room layout made good use of space.
Breakfast was enjoyable, with a nice selection of Japanese and Western dishes, and the restaurant had a lovely view as well. The hotel’s location is convenient — just a short drive from the city center and ferry terminal.
Overall, Art Hotel Kagoshima is a great choice for travelers looking for comfort, good value, and beautiful views of Sakurajima. I would be happy to stay here again.
The hotel was located a 2 minute walk from the airport bus stop. It was also close to tram stops and a don quijote across the road. The room was a little small but we managed to make space for 2 large suitcases by moving things around. There is also a massage chair in the room which was a random nice touch. I really recommend the breakfast as there was an all fish option which is great if you're muslim and only eat halal. It gave us the opportunity to try something traditional that I would not have been able to before. Freshly made bonito flakes too! The hotel also has a luggage disposal service as my suitcase broke on the way there, it costed 3300 yen. It was a convenient, clean and safe stay :)
Nice brand new hotel in a good location. The room is very spacious, and the onsen is the best. You must try it. I didn't try the breakfast, so no comment on food. There is free shuttle bus service from Kagoshima Chuo to the hotel every 30 mins.
A new hotel with excellent location. It’s just next to the shopping streets with lots of restaurants & souvenir shops. Got amenities such as bath salt, tea bags, drip coffee & cleansing oil/ lotion at hotel lobby for you to pick up. The restaurant where you take breakfast commands a stunning panoramic view. Will stay here again.
Upon checking in, guests are treated to stunning views of Sakurajima volcano and Kagoshima city right from their rooms. The hotel boasts an excellent location, nestled close to Shiroyama Park in a tranquil setting. The highlight is undoubtedly the rooftop onsen, offering direct views of Sakurajima—soaking in the hot spring while admiring the majestic volcano is an unforgettable experience. Breakfast offers a wide variety, and the service is meticulous and attentive. Whether for sightseeing or business trips, this hotel is a convenient and iconic top-tier choice in Kagoshima city.
The views of the bay and the volcano are absolutely stunning, 'picturesque' doesn't even begin to cover it!
My room type was a garden view twin, so I couldn't see the volcano or the sea. It was all about value for money, at around 600-700 RMB per night. The room was spacious enough (by Japanese standards), and the luggage rack could fit two medium-sized suitcases. The bathroom was also quite large.
If you want to see the volcano, you can head to the courtyard or walk five minutes to the Shiroyama Observatory. You can soak in the large hot spring bath while looking at the volcano, but we only took a quick look around the baths and didn't really try them out, so I can't comment much.
The hotel shuttle bus runs every half hour, which is pretty convenient. The city view bus stop is near the Shiroyama Observatory. Just ask the receptionist at the hotel lobby on the 4th floor how to get to the observatory; we turned left then right and it was a five-minute walk.
By the way, the city view bus route is a bit winding and there aren't many buses. It's better to take the JR to Sengan-en. The JR has a stop right at the entrance of Sengan-en, and the platform itself is the best spot to view Sakurajima.
Let's start with the pros. This hotel is basically joined to the JR Kyushu Shinkasen / Kagoshimachuo station which is joined to the AMU Plaza shopping mall and it also has a tram stop right outside the mall (Kagoshima-chuo eki mae tram stop). So in terms of location I think this hotel ticks all the boxes. The lady at the front counter who was checking me was very friendly, however, we both had to use a translator to communicate 😂 . I believe that is it for the pros.
Moving on to the cons. This hotel is starting to show its age (and not in a good way). The room was small, the bathroom is vintage, it felt dewy and it gave me an allergy attack.
The 3 gripes I had:
1) The fix AC near the ceiling was blowing directly onto the bed which was really uncomfortable. I believe this contributed to my allergy flare-up.
2) The bed and the pillow was not very comfortable. I did not sleep well for the couple of nights. Or it could've just been the AC.
3) The hotel didn't offer any bottled waters. I would rather they take away the cheap plastic toothbrush and comb and offer the bottled waters instead.
I like this hotel. I've stayed here for 2 times. They provide a free transfer from and to Railway station and a city centre. Very good onsen with a scenic view on Sakurajima. You can also rent a bike here in the hotel for a reasonable price. Convenience store is right by the hotel.
The room is genuinely cozy, sparkling clean, and feels like a new apartment. It's about a 7-8 minute walk from Tenmonkan. The street downstairs is lined with nightclubs, so it's probably best not to return too late. There's a 7-Eleven downstairs and a local supermarket diagonally opposite, offering all sorts of fresh meat and vegetables. It was perfect for us to buy ingredients and use the room's kitchenware for a satisfying yakiniku or shabu-shabu meal. The local wagyu and kurobuta pork were incredibly fragrant and absolutely delicious! Check-in and check-out are fully self-service, which has its pros and cons. The advantage is the peace, quiet, and freedom it offers. However, the downside is that if it's raining and you need help calling a taxi, there's no staff member available to assist you. A taxi ride to Kagoshima-Chuo Station costs about 1000 yen. I would definitely choose to stay here again if I have the opportunity.
Facilities: Formerly the Royal Hotel, the west wing has only undergone exterior renovations. Therefore, I booked the newly renovated east wing. The rooms are predominantly wooden, and the twin-bed Japanese-Western style rooms are quite nice. The onsen (hot spring) is a mild sulfur spring, and the outdoor pool is nice. However, it's not the main sulfurous white spring in the area; those would likely be more therapeutic. There's a heated swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, a playroom, and a children's play area.
Cleanliness: Good
Environment: Located next to Takachiho Ranch, it's situated on high ground, offering views of Sakurajima to the south, making it a good spot for sunset viewing.
Service: Good. Semi-electric bicycles are available for rent, currently free.

GGuest UserI love the three private onsen. They are on first come first serve basis without reservation needed. People mostly will finish their session within 45mins basically so I have the chance to try all three private rooms. They all have good views and allow group of 2-5 people basically. The interior design is magnificent and gorgeous. One of the room even can gaze stars directly from the onsen tub. My stay here is comfortable. Didn't have the chance to try the onsen in room.
The breakfast is Japanese and Western style. Taste good and look very appetizing. The view from the restaurant is beautiful either. Will definitely recommend adding the breakfast buffet but note that the time for breakfast is 07:00-09:30 (L.O. 09:00) if you're not an early bird.
SShalajiangfanqiejiangThe river view room has a beautiful scenery, with an extremely clear blue-green river outside the window. Breakfast and dinner are fresh local ingredients, mainly fish. There is a bus stop at the door: Ohara Town.
GGuest UserThe location may be inconvenient,
but it's a great place for healing purposes.
The food is delicious and the view is amazing.
There are many stars in the evening, and in the summer, you can enjoy the pool, which seems even better. The hot springs in the hotel are free, and when there aren't many people,
I was alone and took a picture of the bath.
It felt like a private bath because I could enjoy it alone.
The hot springs while looking at the sea were the best.
The hot springs are open from 5 AM to 12 AM.
I'm so happy that they operate.
And most of all, the staff were really kind.
I was impressed that they greeted me from the time I arrived at the hotel until I left.

GGuest UserThere is a pool in the room, the food is good, JR National Station takes about 1,500 yen by taxi for 10 minutes, there is nothing fun around, pure vacation can also
AAnonymous UserVery satisfied hotel! The location of the hotel is very good, you can watch the sunrise while lying in bed. There is a hot spring on the premises, the room is comfortable, the breakfast is delicious, and the staff is very welcoming! Worth recommending to more friends

GGuest UserEach lodge is very spacious with a nice, high ceiling, all in bare wood and containing all the essentials: A nice kettle, a good fridge (silent), a TV set, and also a sofa. The ensuite bathroom, shower and toilet is clean and very nice. There are mosquito screens on the windows and the outside areas are nicely landscaped. The restaurant area is a joy, really lovely. Uninterrupted views of the sea and the beach, which is a 3 minute walk away, through the extensive grounds.
I was especially pleased to be picked up and dropped off at the airport and all the staff were very friendly and helpful. There were no language issues at all.
Given all factors, I do not hesitate to give 5/5 stars, however, I am extremely particular about food, and the restaurant suffers from the the common issue of re-using the frying oil ad infinitum. Overall, food quality was ”OK”, but not great. However, the exceptional location, and all other aspects of the accommodation, mean that one can still enjoy a perfect beer in a perfect location and not care too much about the cuisine.
陳陳查禮My sincerest gratitude to the professional service and helpfulness of the front desk staff in particular the Div. Manager, Mr. Atsuyoshi Kubota, who patiently search for available medical service during late hours for treating my wife's injury and also voluntarily arrange a staff to accompany us to the hospital. Ram Kumar, the accompanying staff, is instrumemental in our communication to the medical personnels and he is so kind to arrange late dinner for us at the hotel's discretion. They not only demonstrate the highest level of professionalism but also their genuine care of the well being of the customers.
Once again, big big thanks to Mr. Kubota and his team of beautiful people.
By the way, good breakfast and dinner, both in terms of the menu as well as service and venue.
