The room interiors are nice, and the sea views and sunsets are absolutely stunning. However, there's barely any beach; it's mostly grassy areas with sea views and sunsets. The breakfast is quite perfunctory – only five or six types of meat, all chicken, with no beef or seafood. This definitely doesn't justify the 3,000-per-night room rate. The seascape is very beautiful. The Horizon lounge room is small and just average. Breakfast is not very good, only chicken, no seafood, it doesn't match the room charge.

ShanyouzhenI chose this hotel for a one-night stay before heading to the overwater bungalow the next day. Although the room facilities were a bit old, they were very clean. There's a convenience store right downstairs, and it's very close to the pier. The sea breeze was a bit loud at night, but the breakfast was excellent and plentiful.

catherine2023After staying at Gaya Centre Hotel in Kota Kinabalu, I found it to be a comfortable and convenient place to stay. The hotel’s biggest advantage is its excellent location, as it is within walking distance of popular attractions such as Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, Gaya Street, and Jesselton Point. This made it easy for me to explore the city without relying heavily on transportation.

This is my third year in a row staying here when I visit clients. The breakfast is amazing, and the staff are very warm and friendly. When you open the curtains, you're greeted with a beautiful sea view. My clients also rave about the buffet, saying it's incredibly delicious, and they often come here for dinner too.

ZhangdanzoutianyaService: Five stars! I sent the hotel an email the day before my arrival, explaining the purpose of my trip, and they kindly replied. At check-in, they gave us a cake and decorated the room. The service at this established hotel is truly top-notch.
Facilities: It's an older hotel, so no smart home features, but it's well-maintained. The room had no strange odors, and the hot water was fast and plentiful.
Location: Unbeatable! The sea view is genuine, not just a sliver of the sky. The island-hopping pier is a 10-minute walk, and the Gaya Street night market is only a 5-minute walk.
Drawbacks: Breakfast is too expensive, and there are many alternative options nearby.

I contacted customer service in advance, and they were always responsive. For our celebration, they even provided some simple decorations, which was a pleasant surprise when we checked in!
Our flight was delayed, and although the official check-in time was before 24:00, we were still able to check in smoothly more than half an hour late that day (we hadn't anticipated the delay would be that long).
The room view was really good (it's a pity we didn't stay in the room until evening, otherwise, watching the sunset would have been great!). There's also an outdoor viewing area on the 6th floor, but we didn't stay long enough for its operating hours. The room size was decent, with just one chair, but it had a full kitchen with almost all utensils provided! The bathroom also had toiletries.
The breakfast included in the room rate was a nice bonus.
The best part was definitely the infinity pool! It was still cool and out of the sun at 8:00 AM.
I stayed at both Citadines Waterfront and The Shore in Kota Kinabalu, and it turns out they're in the same building but with separate entrances (they are interconnected). The pool on the 6th floor is directly separated, which is pretty cool.

Guest UserI booked a newly renovated room on the 2nd floor of the main building, as requested. First, the cons: it's very remote, far from the city center, and even a single trip to the nearest town costs around 40 Malaysian Ringgit. So, dining options are limited to the hotel. I ate at two hotel restaurants, the VIP building and a seaside Western restaurant. Both had one major characteristic: long waits. After ordering, you have to wait quite a while. If you're used to the faster service in China, you might lose your temper here.
The hotel's cleanliness also left much to be desired. There were earplugs from a previous guest in the corner by the bed, which I guess is because some rooms are indeed noisy... There were also quite a few long, yellow hairs on the chairs and floor. The bathroom only provided two bath towels; everything else was forgotten. There was no hand soap on the vanity either. The air conditioning vent also looked quite dirty...
Now for the pros: the natural environment is good, the beach is large enough, and the accessible areas were cleaned. There was a lot of trash closer to the edges, but it didn't affect my enjoyment. Monkeys, lizards, squirrels, and geckos were everywhere. It's a great experience for families with children. As for adults... even bikinis were a rare sight, probably because there weren't many guests.
I also have to complain about something else. After staying at so many hotels, my assessment is that this is a management issue. Such a beautiful location is not being run well. There was even a notice about a fine for outside food delivery. This notice alone highlights the level of professionalism. Are fines just arbitrarily imposed? Wouldn't it be better to say that bringing outside food requires a cleaning fee?
Furthermore, I couldn't add any WeChat contacts, neither the Chinese butler nor the Chinese front desk.
