Recommended things to do:

  • Visit the Louvre Museum and plan which collections you want to see.

  • Take photographs of the Louvre's glass pyramid.

Eiffel Tower and Trocadero

Eiffel Tower

No first Paris trip feels complete without seeing the Eiffel Tower. The surrounding area is ideal for photography, picnics when conditions permit and scenic walks beside the Seine.

Trocadero is popular place to photograph the tower from across the river while the Champ de Mars offers another perspective from the tower's grounds.

Recommended things to do:

  • Photograph the Eiffel Tower from Trocadéro.
  • Visit the tower itself if you want to experience the viewing platforms.
  • Walk through the Champ de Mars.
  • Enjoy a picnic or a takeaway pastry when the weather is suitable.
  • Take an evening stroll to see the tower illuminated.

🚨Travel tip: Book tickets through the official Eiffel Tower website if you plan to go up. Allow extra time for security checks and queues.

Recommended things to do:

  • Visit Notre-Dame Cathedral.
  • Admire the stained-glass windows at Sainte-Chapelle.
  • Walk along the banks of the Seine.
  • Explore the Latin Quarter's bookshops and cafés.
  • Visit the Panthéon if you are interested in French history.

🚨Travel tip: Keep some time free for wandering around the small streets. You do not need to plan every stop in this neighbourhood.

Champs Elysees and Arc de Triomphe

Arc de Triomphe de l’Etoile

The Champs-Élysées is one of Paris's best-known avenues, lined with shops, restaurants and cafés. At its western end stands the Arc de Triomphe, a major monument with a viewing platform overlooking the city.

  • Explore the nearby luxury shopping streets.
  • Stop for a café break before continuing your sightseeing.
  • Take photographs of the avenue from the monument's viewing platform.

Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur

Place du Tertre

Montmartre offers a different atmosphere from the grand boulevards and major museums. Its sloping streets, small cafés and artistic history make it a lovely area to explore at a slower pace.

Recommended things to do:

  • Visit Sacré-Cœur Basilica and enjoy the views.
  • Wander around Place du Tertre.
  • Explore the neighbourhood's cafés and independent shops.
  • Take photographs of Montmartre's stairways and charming streets.

  • Visit the Hall of Mirrors.
  • Walk through the gardens when they are open.
  • Check whether the Trianon estate is included in your chosen ticket.
  • Allow time for travel to and from Versailles.

🚨Travel tip: Set aside most of a day for Versailles. Check the official opening calendar, ticket inclusions and transport arrangements before leaving Paris.

Disneyland Paris

If you are travelling with children or are a Disney fan, Disneyland Paris can be a highlight of your trip. Located outside central Paris, the resort is accessible by RER A to Marne-la-Vallée–Chessy, subject to the operating schedule.

Recommended things to do:

  • Choose the park or parks that best match your interests.
  • Check attraction and show schedules before arrival.
  • Book tickets in advance for your intended date.
  • Consider staying nearby if you want to spend more than one day at the resort.

🚨Travel tip: Avoid squeezing Disneyland Paris into a day already filled with central Paris sightseeing. Give yourself a full day, or longer if you plan to visit both parks.

Choosing Accommodation by Location on the Paris Map

Paris has accommodation for different budgets and travel styles, but the neighbourhood you choose can make a big difference to your trip. Staying near a convenient Metro station is often more useful than choosing a hotel solely because it looks close to one landmark on the map.

Lourve and Central Paris

Staying around the Louvre and Tuileries puts you close to major museums, gardens and central sightseeing routes. It is a practical base if you are visiting Paris for the first time and want to minimise travel between landmarks.

Best for: First-time visitors, short stays and sightseeing-focused itineraries.

Hotel to consider: Hotel Le Meurice is a luxury option near the Tuileries Garden. It is best suited to travellers with a higher accommodation budget.

Eiffel Tower and the 7th Arrondissement

The area around the Eiffel Tower is ideal if you want to stay close to one of Paris's most recognisable landmarks. Some hotels offer tower views, although the view depends on the room category and building location.

Best for: Couples, special occasions and travellers who prioritise Eiffel Tower views.

Hotel to consider: Hotel Duquesne Eiffel is an option to explore in the Eiffel Tower area. Check the exact room location and view details before booking.

From S$ 183

Latin Quarter

The Latin Quarter is a convenient base for visitors who enjoy history, cafés and walking around the Left Bank. It also offers access to several central attractions and Métro stations.

Best for: First-time visitors, culture lovers and travellers who enjoy exploring on foot.

Hotel to consider: Hotel Vendôme Saint-Germain is located in the Latin Quarter, with access to nearby attractions such as the Panthéon and Notre-Dame.

Le Marais

Le Marais is a good choice if you prefer boutique shopping, galleries, historic streets and plenty of cafés. It is particularly appealing to travellers who want to spend time exploring the neighbourhood rather than visiting only the major landmarks.

Best for: Couples, shopping lovers and travellers who enjoy a lively neighbourhood.

Hotel to consider: Le Pavillon de la Reine is a boutique luxury hotel near Place des Vosges. It is worth considering for a special stay.

Opera and Grands Boulevards

This area is convenient for shopping, dining and public transport. It is also a practical option if you want access to department stores and a range of restaurants without staying directly beside the busiest tourist landmarks.

Best for: Shopping, families and travellers who want convenient transport connections.

Hotel tip: Compare properties near Opéra such as Hotel London and Grands Boulevards by checking the nearest Métro station, room size and luggage storage facilities.

From S$ 106

Montmartre

Montmartre is ideal if you prefer a neighbourhood with artistic character, cafés and scenic streets. However, some hotels are on steep roads or farther from the main Métro stations, so check the exact location before booking.

Best for: Couples, repeat visitors and travellers who enjoy a more neighbourhood-focused stay.

🚨Booking tip for Singaporeans: Paris hotel prices can vary significantly depending on the season, events and room type. Compare the total price for your travel dates, check cancellation conditions and confirm whether breakfast is included before booking on Trip.com.

The hotel was exactly what you'd expect from a palace. This was my third time in Paris, and this time my main goal was to stay in a wonderful hotel. I was moved by the beauty of the 19th-century mansion, the view from the large terrace was stunning, and above all, the high level of hospitality made me feel comfortable. Upon leaving, I forgot one of my bags due to a lack of checking, but they called a taxi and delivered it to the airport. Thanks to the Shangri-La Hotel, my trip with my daughter became an even more wonderful memory. I hope to visit again next year. Thank you very much.

The location and room size are both really good. There are plenty of food options nearby, and there's a supermarket right downstairs. The hotel room is also quite new and clean. The only downside is that the water pressure for the shower is too low, making it a struggle to shower.

Such a lovely hotel, great room and room service. Such a comfortable bed, Beautiful bathroom. Friendly bartender and free welcome drink. I loved this quiet hotel. Nearest Metro 10 minutes walk Charonne station, the Luke cafe was sweet and also liked the other one, the Belle something … around the corner from hotel. It’s a very lively area near hospital, many cafe & restaurants.

I stayed here again. The front desk staff member was very warm and polite, and even arranged a room that exceeded my expectations – it was fantastic! The room was clean and tidy, as was the linen. The bed and pillows were also very comfortable. Unfortunately, the toilet flush was hard to press and the water flow wasn't strong enough, and the sink tap also had low water pressure. But these minor issues didn't detract from the overall experience. The handsome front desk staff member at check-out was equally warm and polite. He even helped me call to check about storing luggage at the Louvre, and ultimately advised me that it would be safer to store it at the hotel. Breakfast seemed to have slightly declined in quality compared to before, but it was still well worth having. After exploring, I returned to the hotel to pick up my stored luggage, and the bellboy was also very nice, bidding me farewell with a 'take care!' My overall impression is that all the hotel staff treat guests with a wonderful, hospitable attitude, making you feel right at home.

The hotel's location is incredibly convenient, right across from Gare du Nord station – you can see it as soon as you step out! Despite being by a train station, it's not dirty or run-down at all. The hotel facilities are excellent, they even offer a complimentary mini-bar, and there's a kettle in the room. The AC noise is barely noticeable. The overall decor feels very Parisian. The room we chose was quite spacious and even had a balcony. The shower stall was also large and very comfortable. All in all, it offers great value for money. I'd definitely choose to stay here again if I need to catch a train when I'm next in Paris.

The hotel's location is superb, just a ten-minute walk to attractions like Notre Dame and the Louvre. The Chatelet transfer station is right outside, which is very convenient. This time, we stayed in a top-floor loft family room with a double bed and a sofa bed, and the space was quite spacious. The hotel provided juice, cookies, and chocolates as a welcome gift, which was a thoughtful touch. The breakfast buffet didn't have a wide variety, and the serving area was a bit small, but overall it was decent.

Perfect hotel with a great location and complimentary water! Service at check-in is available in English, French, or even German. The porter brings luggage to the room or to the complimentary luggage storage (available all day, before or after check-in/check-out). Upon early arrival at 11 am, our room wasn't ready yet, but they immediately offered us another room upon request. The room had a view of the train station, but that's not a problem; it's actually quite entertaining to watch everything. Of course, Paris is noisy at night with sirens, etc., but that's normal. If you've walked around the city all day, you're so tired you won't even hear the noise. :) The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the TV worked perfectly. Water was provided in the room. Hotel breakfast started at 6:30 AM and was reduced by €2.20 to €19.70 if you reserved a day in advance. A very ample selection of hot and cold dishes was available; everything was there! Highly recommended! Perfect location at Gare de l'Est! We will definitely come again!!

Location is good. 5 mins to the metro station. Good service on the introduction of website registration for Wifi. Room is nice and clean. A little smelly due to the location, as it's not exposed long enough to the sunlight. And there are ants. There is a laundry room with 2 washing machines. But 1 was broken the 3rd day when I staied so need to line up for the laundry. Overall is good experience and recommended.

Montparnasse Paris|3.08km from downtown
This hotel is a brand new, five-star property under the Accor Group in France. It boasts a very smart, modern, and stylish design. The location is incredibly convenient, with a metro station right outside the hotel entrance, making it easy to get to any attraction. Right next to the hotel is a huge, two-story supermarket, offering a wide selection of vegetables, fruits, food, cosmetics, and more. The 32nd-floor Skybar is very popular and open until 2 AM. We heard it offers views of the Eiffel Tower, but we didn't have time to visit. I'd suggest avoiding rooms on very high floors to escape the bar's music. The hotel's gym is fantastic! It's fully equipped and has a great atmosphere. Plus, there are many restaurants near the hotel, and the stand-up pizza and pasta places are incredibly delicious! I highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel's location is excellent, very close and convenient to the subway station, with many shops around, including a Chinese noodle restaurant and a bubble tea shop. The soundproofing in the rooms is very good; even though the fountain square is noisy, you can barely hear it with the windows closed. The cleanliness was generally good, although I did notice a few hairs in the shower upon check-in, but everything else was quite new and clean. Breakfast was very mediocre with limited options. The front desk service was good; as a registered member, I was able to check in early, and they proactively arranged a courtyard view room and a fountain view room for us. The only downside was that there's only one elevator, which meant waiting.

Montmartre Paris|3.58km from downtown
The hotel's location is excellent, making it easy to walk to Sacré-Cœur, and there are many restaurants and cafes nearby, so getting around in general is quite convenient. However, the hotel facilities are a bit old, and the bathroom space is on the smaller side. My experience with the service was rather mediocre. I felt that the staff's attitude varied depending on the guest. During my stay, only one lady with long blonde hair at the front desk and a gentleman with a low ponytail were very friendly and willing to help us. The service from the other staff members wasn't as good. Another confusing issue for me was this: I booked two double rooms, but when checking in, I only provided passport information for three people, yet I was charged city tax for four people. Later, I went to the front desk to clarify, and the tax for one person was refunded, so the issue was resolved in the end. However, I still don't understand why there was such a charge in the first place. Something else that negatively impacted my experience was that when housekeeping cleaned the room, they simply tossed clothes that were on the bed directly onto my suitcase. While they might have just been trying to tidy the bed, this way of handling personal items felt disrespectful. I hope they can be more careful with guests' belongings in the future. Overall, the hotel's location is indeed great, but there's room for improvement regarding facilities, service details, and the overall guest experience.

Bercy Paris|3.79km from downtown
Overall, for a hotel in Paris, this one offers good value for money. Although it's located in the 12th arrondissement, which is a bit suburban, the proximity to the metro station makes it very convenient. It's only two stops to the famous Châtelet station. The room wasn't small either. It seems like many Accor brand hotels are in this area. There are supermarkets and restaurants nearby. However, finding a laundromat was really difficult and far – you'd probably need an electric scooter to get to a residential area about 2 kilometers away. What's highly recommended is their gym. It occupies the entire basement level and even offers free apples for an energy boost. There's a wide variety of equipment, and the dumbbells come in a full range of weights, including heavy ones. There are also different small rooms for individual workouts, along with separate restrooms and shower rooms. My biggest disappointment was their breakfast. Even though the ingredients seemed high-quality and possibly organic, paying nearly 200 RMB per person and not finding anything that suited a Chinese palate and was healthy was frustrating. There were no leafy green vegetables, just some very basic, raw cabbage hearts. Some of the cold cuts were surprisingly unappetizing. The staff also seemed very rushed. I only found out after leaving that you could ask a server for coffee. The only thing I'd recommend is the freshly made omelets – bring your own vegetables to get enough protein. Taste-wise, it was honestly not as good as Hampton by Hilton. Another overall impression is that hotels in France don't have the same warmth as those in Belgium, and the English proficiency was slightly inferior. Don't even expect any Chinese-speaking staff.

We had a wonderful 2-night stay at Le Tsuba Hotel. From the moment we arrived, we felt truly welcomed, almost like in a 5-star hotel. Yes, the rooms are small, but that’s expected in Paris and didn’t impact our experience. What really stood out was the team: incredibly kind, attentive, and genuine. A special thank you to Angelina, Roman, and Gary for their warmth and thoughtful gestures, they made our stay extra special. A few small improvements: the room layout is quite tight, there are no hooks for wet towels, and ceramic cups would be a nice upgrade. The sauna could also use clearer instructions, as the key system can be a bit inconvenient. Overall, a lovely stay with an amazing team, I would definitely recommend it!

  1. Group attractions by area. Visit the Louvre and Tuileries together, then explore Notre-Dame and the Latin Quarter on another day to avoid unnecessary travel.
  2. Choose your hotel location carefully. Prioritise a convenient Métro station and consider how far you will need to walk with your luggage.
  3. Use public transport for longer journeys. The Métro and RER make it easier to move between neighbourhoods and reach destinations outside central Paris.
  4. Check your ticket type before travelling. Standard Metro-Train-RER and Bus-Tram tickets are different, and airport journeys have separate ticket rules.
  5. Book popular attractions in advance. Check official ticket websites for the Louvre, Eiffel Tower and Versailles, particularly during school holidays and peak travel periods.
  6. Wear comfortable shoes. Paris is a great city for walking, but you may cover more ground than expected when exploring cobbled streets, gardens and museum galleries.
  7. Keep an eye on your belongings. Stay alert in crowded Métro stations, tourist areas and busy attractions, especially when carrying valuables.
  8. Bring a payment backup. Cards are widely used, but it is sensible to carry a small amount of euros for situations where cash is useful.
  9. Plan day trips separately. Versailles and Disneyland Paris are outside central Paris, so give each destination enough time instead of combining them with a packed city itinerary.
  10. Check opening hours before setting off. Museums, monuments, restaurants and shops may close on particular days or change their schedules for public holidays and special events.
  11. Leave room for spontaneous stops. Some of the best Paris experiences come from finding a bakery, browsing a small bookshop or enjoying a quiet street café along the way.
  12. Check the weather before packing. Paris can be cool and rainy at different times of the year. Bring layers and comfortable walking shoes, and prepare for changes in the forecast.

Final Thoughts

Louvre Museum

Paris is best explored by neighbourhood, with each area offering something different. The Louvre and Tuileries are ideal for art and history, the Eiffel Tower area delivers classic Paris views, Le Marais is great for shopping, and Montmarte offers a charming change of pace.

If you have extra time, consider a day trip to Versailles or Disneyland Paris. Both are outside central Paris, so plan your transport and itinerary in advance.

For Singaporean travellers, the secret to enjoying Paris is to choose a convenient hotel, group nearby attractions together and leave enough time to enjoy the city's cafés, food and beautiful streets. With a good Paris map and a realistic itinerary, you can make the most of your European getaway without spending too much time travelling.
