Heading to Paris? You will probably using the Paris Metro quite a lot! It is one of the easiest ways to travel around the city, connecting many of Paris's most famous attractions, shopping areas and neighbourhoods.

In this guide, I will show you how to use the Paris Metro including map, operating hours, ticket prices, travel passes and how to take the metro. Once you know the basics, getting around Paris will feel much easier!

Paris Metro Map

The Paris Metro has 16 lines numbered from Line 1 to Line 14, with additional Lines 3bis and 7bis. The network covers Paris and several nearby suburbs, making it easy to reach many of the city's top attractions.

Each line has its own number and colour on the Paris Metro map, so it is relatively easy to follow once you know the route. You can also find English information on the ticket machines and through official transport apps.

Some useful Paris Metro lines for travellers include:

  • Line 1: Travels through central Paris and stops near the Champys Elysees, Lourve Museum and Arc de Triomphe.
  • Line 4: Connects several major areas and is useful for travelling between Gare du Nord, Chatelet, and Saint Germain des Pres.

Paris Metro Operating Hours

The Paris Metro generally runs from around 5:30am until approximately 1:15am from Sunday to Thursday.

On Friday and Saturday nights, as well as the eve of public holidays, the metro usually operates later, until approximately 2:15am.

However, the exact first and last train times vary depending on the line and station. If you plan to stay out late, always check the timetable for your specific station and route.

Late Night Transport in Paris

If you miss the last metro, Paris also has the Noctilien night bus network, which operates after the metro closes.

The night buses generally operate between approximately 12:30am and 5:30am, connecting major train stations and other areas across Paris and the Île de France region.

Paris transport fares were updated for 2026, and the ticket system is now different from the older paper Ticket t+ system that many previous travel guides still mention.

For most visitors travelling around Paris and the wider Île de France region, the Metro Train RER Ticket is the main option for individual journeys by metro, train and RER.

I had specifically paid for a room with a view, but unfortunately, for the first two days, I didn’t get the room I had booked, which was disappointing—especially considering the high standards expected from a luxury hotel like this. However, after raising the issue, the hotel finally provided me with the correct room. The next two days were much better, and I must say the view was absolutely breathtaking—definitely worth the wait. The iconic sights of Paris from the room were truly unforgettable, making the experience feel special. Overall, while the initial inconvenience was frustrating, the hotel did make up for it in the end with the stunning view I had originally hoped for. I’d recommend double-checking your room upon arrival, but once everything is sorted, the experience can be magical.

I stayed here again. The front desk staff member was very warm and polite, and even arranged a room that exceeded my expectations – it was fantastic! The room was clean and tidy, as was the linen. The bed and pillows were also very comfortable. Unfortunately, the toilet flush was hard to press and the water flow wasn't strong enough, and the sink tap also had low water pressure. But these minor issues didn't detract from the overall experience. The handsome front desk staff member at check-out was equally warm and polite. He even helped me call to check about storing luggage at the Louvre, and ultimately advised me that it would be safer to store it at the hotel. Breakfast seemed to have slightly declined in quality compared to before, but it was still well worth having. After exploring, I returned to the hotel to pick up my stored luggage, and the bellboy was also very nice, bidding me farewell with a 'take care!' My overall impression is that all the hotel staff treat guests with a wonderful, hospitable attitude, making you feel right at home.

I had to wait in line for almost 30 minutes to check in, as the staff member handling the transition between shifts did not seem to notice or prioritize new arriving guests. Overall, the level of professionalism was disappointing.

They also surprised us with beautiful honeymoon decorations in the room, including balloons, a bouquet, and a lovely message card. It was such a thoughtful gesture and made our stay even more special. The room was very clean and comfortable, and we had a very pleasant stay overall. The only small downside was that the shower water pressure was a bit weak, but it was not a major issue. Overall, the hotel made our honeymoon even more memorable. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Perfect hotel with a great location and complimentary water! Service at check-in is available in English, French, or even German. The porter brings luggage to the room or to the complimentary luggage storage (available all day, before or after check-in/check-out). Upon early arrival at 11 am, our room wasn't ready yet, but they immediately offered us another room upon request. The room had a view of the train station, but that's not a problem; it's actually quite entertaining to watch everything. Of course, Paris is noisy at night with sirens, etc., but that's normal. If you've walked around the city all day, you're so tired you won't even hear the noise. :) The room was clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the TV worked perfectly. Water was provided in the room. Hotel breakfast started at 6:30 AM and was reduced by €2.20 to €19.70 if you reserved a day in advance. A very ample selection of hot and cold dishes was available; everything was there! Highly recommended! Perfect location at Gare de l'Est! We will definitely come again!!

The hotel rooms are spacious and tidy, and the kitchen is fully equipped with utensils. The front desk even provides travel tips and tourist information. The only drawback is that the breakfast is a bit simple, offering limited options if you're staying for multiple days. I hope everyone reading this has a wonderful time in Paris!

She was pleasant with the white guests in front of me, but her attitude completely changed the moment she saw me. Even though I speak French, she insisted on speaking English to me. On the other hand, the other two receptionists were excellent. The gentleman working the night shift and the male receptionist during the day were both incredibly friendly. They showed me the water dispenser (there's a free sparkling and iced water dispenser in the lobby) and chatted with me when I came back in the evening. I would definitely return, but I hope not to encounter that particular female receptionist again.

The hotel's location is excellent, making it easy to walk to Sacré-Cœur, and there are many restaurants and cafes nearby, so getting around in general is quite convenient. However, the hotel facilities are a bit old, and the bathroom space is on the smaller side. My experience with the service was rather mediocre. I felt that the staff's attitude varied depending on the guest. During my stay, only one lady with long blonde hair at the front desk and a gentleman with a low ponytail were very friendly and willing to help us. The service from the other staff members wasn't as good. Another confusing issue for me was this: I booked two double rooms, but when checking in, I only provided passport information for three people, yet I was charged city tax for four people. Later, I went to the front desk to clarify, and the tax for one person was refunded, so the issue was resolved in the end. However, I still don't understand why there was such a charge in the first place. Something else that negatively impacted my experience was that when housekeeping cleaned the room, they simply tossed clothes that were on the bed directly onto my suitcase. While they might have just been trying to tidy the bed, this way of handling personal items felt disrespectful. I hope they can be more careful with guests' belongings in the future. Overall, the hotel's location is indeed great, but there's room for improvement regarding facilities, service details, and the overall guest experience.

The hallway carpet had a musty smell, and the room did too. It's an old hotel.
