Reviews: Beijing BEIJING W TOWN + Great Wall at Simatai 1-day tour ◆ optional private tour transfer within the fifth ring road hotels
Guest User2026-10-06
We took this tour on October 4th. Mark led our group. Thanks to his coordination, our visit to the Simatai Wall and the Gubei Water City went smoothly. We had enough time for everything: boats, lunch, the wall, and a stroll around the city, both in daylight and illuminated.

Reviews: Gubei Water Town + Simatai Great Wall Day Trip & Optional Night/Day Tour/Private Group Transfer

The trip was great! Many thanks to our guide, Svetlana, for her attention and excellent organization. We followed her instructions and made it all the way. We bought tickets for the boat, funicular, and lunch from her, and it turned out to be cheaper than at the box office. We took the funicular up the wall to the fifth tower, and then, surprisingly, there's a path up the stairs to the eighth tower (my wife and I are no longer young, but we climbed it and even reached the tenth tower). We also managed to walk around the city, but the light fades quickly. So, if you want to take pictures, I recommend not lingering on the wall. There are many beautiful places in the city, especially in the fall. We also captured the city at night with the lanterns, very beautiful! Thanks again to Svetlana!

Reviews: Jinshanling Great Wall + Simatai Night Tour + Cable Car + Gubei Water Town Day Trip & Bilingual (Chinese & English) Includes Admission

A great tour, everything was well-organized, and the guide spoke English. I recommend this particular tour: Jinshanling, Gubei, and Simatai, so you can see the Great Wall of China in both daylight and night. The town of Gubei is also very charming.

Reviews: Gubei Water Town Day Trip --- [Optional Day Tour / Night Tour of Simatai Great Wall & Lunch]
Guest User2026-09-03
What a wonderful tour! Our guide was Jane; she contacted me on WhatsApp the day before. Along the way, Jane told me a little about the history of the Simatai section of the wall. Once there, the guide offered additional services: a boat, lunch, and a roundtrip cable car ride for ¥320 per person. We took everything and didn't regret it. The boat took us to a hot pot restaurant: each of us had our own pot. Jane showed us how to make the sauce, which was delicious and not at all spicy. After lunch, we had free time. The cable car takes us to the observation deck at the 8th tower, from where it's another 10-15-minute climb up a steep staircase. The views are stunning! Gubei is very clean and well-maintained. There are free hot springs (more like small foot pools), cafes, restaurants, and exhibition areas. The restrooms are modern, there are restrooms, and water coolers. The Great Wall's illumination turned on around 7:05 PM, so even during our daytime visit, we were able to see its lights from afar. Overall, we were pleased!

Reviews: Private Self-Guided Gubei Water Town and Simatai Great Wall with English speaking driver
Guest User2026-10-12
Our driver Mr Sun, picked us up at 11am as requested. He was helpful and accommodating and the trip was fast and safe. Once we arrived at Gubei Water Town, he purchased our tickets for the boat ride and gondola and then showed us where to go ect. Once inside we got the boat straight to the wall where my husband did the hike (to steep for me with my bad knees) we then spent the day wondering around the beautiful lanes and streets. We watched the sunset from the Church View Hill and then waited till dark to see the wonderful lights of the wall and streets. We ate a spectacular meal for dinner and then Sun met us at the front at 7:30pm. It was so great to have a safe and reliable ride back to Beijing and to walk the streets at our own pace. Gubei has been the highlight of our China trip so far. A must see !!!! And our driver made the day much smoother . We couldn’t fault the day.
