GGuest UserMy trip to Penang was made extra special by choosing The Eastern & Oriental Hotel, and my overall experience was fantastic. The hotel itself is steeped in history, a beautiful heritage building that's part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, exuding classic charm. From the moment you step inside, you're enveloped in a rich historical atmosphere and elegant style; both the public areas and guest rooms are exquisitely decorated. I stayed in a Heritage Wing Suite, which was spacious and bright. Drawing back the curtains revealed a stunning sea view, and the expansive balcony was truly delightful. The bed in the room was clean and comfortable, with just the right firmness for a great night's sleep.
The hotel's facilities are also comprehensive, featuring an infinity pool, gym, and spa. Guests staying in the Heritage Wing also have access to the facilities in the Victory Annexe, offering even more options. The pool is incredibly photogenic, attracting many guests who want to snap some great pictures. As for dining, the hotel's restaurants offer a variety of cuisines. While I found the à la carte breakfast, exclusive to the Heritage Wing, to be just average in taste, the ambiance and service were excellent. Plus, the hotel provides complimentary afternoon tea and cocktail hours, and the mini-fridge in the suite is stocked with free drinks that are replenished daily – these thoughtful touches really made a difference.
The hotel's location is also superb, with many attractions like the Penang Thean Hou Temple and Love Lane within walking distance, making getting around very convenient. However, there were a couple of minor issues. Upon entering the room, there was a faint musty smell, but it quickly dissipated. Also, I hope the hotel considers having staff at the entrance to help with luggage, which would further enhance the service experience. Overall, The Eastern & Oriental Hotel is a highly recommended place to stay for anyone visiting Penang.
