The location of Loop on Leith strikes a near-perfect balance.
Although the hotel sits close to the lively Lebuh Chulia, it is cleverly tucked away along Leith Street. Chulia Street is a hub for backpackers and nightlife, so evenings can get noisy. By setting itself slightly inward, Loop on Leith neatly avoids the brunt of street noise, while still placing you just a four-minute walk from the iconic Blue Mansion (Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion), where you can easily begin your street food adventure.
Its positioning works as an ideal base for urban exploration. Head north and you’ll find the refined charm of the heritage district; head south and you step straight into the vibrant pulse of the city center.
The hotel embraces an Urban Chic concept, deliberately doing away with traditional heavy carpeting—a smart choice in a tropical climate, as it helps reduce mustiness and allergens. Instead, modern hard flooring and bright lighting create a space that feels noticeably fresher and cleaner, both visually and physically, compared to older Peranakan-style hotels in the same price range.
Rooms here tend to be on the smaller side. For two guests traveling with large luggage, the space can feel a bit tight. It’s best suited for travelers who spend most of their day বাইরে exploring and simply want a comfortable place to rest at night—think light packers or efficiency-focused “urban explorers.”
At roughly RM250 per night, Loop on Leith delivers a boutique-like aesthetic and standardized service at a budget hotel price point. The value-for-money and overall sense of comfort are impressive.
It lacks the heavy, sometimes oppressive atmosphere of heritage buildings, and also avoids the blandness of chain hotels. This makes it especially appealing to young couples, solo travelers, or business visitors.
If you’re looking for a spacious executive suite, this may not be the right choice. But if your priorities are efficiency, cleanliness, and stepping straight into great food and scenery the moment you walk out, it stands out as a smart option in George Town’s mid-range market.
For an even better stay, consider requesting a higher-floor room—it offers a slightly more open view and helps buffer early morning street noise from passing motorcycles.
Overall, the stay was okay and fairly comfortable. The location is excellent and very convenient. However, there were several issues with the room details and service. Some areas of the room did not seem to be cleaned properly — there were a few hairs found in the shower area, and the tissue supply was not refilled promptly and ran out very quickly. In addition, the amount of shower gel and shampoo provided was too little and definitely not enough for two people.
The service also felt quite slow and inefficient. It was my first time experiencing a hotel breakfast buffet that required guests to queue for a long time due to the limited seating space. Furthermore, although check-in time was supposed to be at 2 PM, when we arrived close to 3 PM, the counter staff informed us that the room was still not ready and we had to continue waiting, which was quite disappointing and should not have happened.
That said, despite these issues, the overall stay was still reasonably comfortable and the hotel offers decent value for money.
This hotel truly deserves a good review. I'd definitely stay here again on my next visit.
**Service:** Top-notch! The hotel knew we needed to change (Penang was so hot!), and they let us check in early at 10 AM since a room was available. Water was also delivered to our room very quickly.
**Location:** Super convenient. There's a 7-Eleven right next door and a shopping mall.
**Accommodation Experience:** I requested a standing shower room in advance, and that's exactly what I got. The bed was quite large, and the overall feeling was spacious and clean.
**Dining:** During the May Day holiday, there was about a 5-minute wait for breakfast, which was perfectly acceptable.
The hotel is just a 5-minute walk from the jetty and has great facilities. It's quiet at night, and conveniently located near Chew Jetty and the street art. Perfect for a city walk, though there aren't many dining options nearby. A Chinese-speaking staff member at the front desk was a huge help; when I accidentally booked an immediate Grab ride and couldn't cancel, I rushed downstairs, and he assisted me immediately. He was very friendly and answered all my questions. Penang is wonderful, I'll definitely be back!
I was upgraded to a Deluxe room but it was at the extreme corner next to the service staircase. Grateful for the upgraded but the room conditions were not up to par . Hair in shower room , the shower holder fell when I was taking it out and it dropped on my toe . Hence the blue black toe shown ( hehe ) . I could not sleep the whole night as the air con was very very noisy even when I lower the adjustment. The day curtain was torn . I sound it out to reception the next morning to see whether they can change my room as I was staying for another 2 nights . They did and I reckoned it was another up grade as now the room has a standing shower room . In the other previous room , you have to stand in the bath tub to shower and for a man of 65 , it is a bit tricky . The hotel really needs an up grade too . It is in a good location and CAT bus is nearby . The CAT shuttle is a complimentary bus that moves around the town area .
The saving grace for my trip was that the staff was up to par and reacted quickly . Well done on this .
Now , I wait for my toe to heal .
There is no sufficient space for guests drop off and pick up and for if there are two to three cars the area before hotel will be messed up and stuck together! The enclosed captured screen from goggle map is self explanatory !
Every morning commencing 8:00 am to 09:00am there will be large trolleys outside the rooms and on upper floors transferring towels and other amenities around and the sound like you are sitting by the railway while the trains are crossing which was rather annoying. You will hear staff talking or chatting together and the metallic service door slamming during that period.
Most interesting is every day the housekeeping has left souvenirs to us. The first day was a toilet brush and the second day was a cigarette lighter.
Last but not the least when we approached the concierge to get the luggages while the car was waiting just outside the hotel main door the bell boy asked my wife to move the luggages by herself and the distance was only 3 meters away!
This hotel is located in the heart of Penang Island, right opposite Komtar. Upon check-in, we were upgraded to a high-floor sea view room. The breakfast spread was excellent, and it's super convenient for shopping districts and the famous street art area. Penang durians, especially Musang King and Black Thorn, had just come into season and were absolutely delicious! I've stayed at a few other hotels for business trips to Penang before, but from now on, this hotel will be my go-to choice.
The room was okay. The electric water heater for the shower was noisy when heating up. However, the location was convenient for getting around, and the breakfast pretty much met our needs. It was a bit inconvenient that the air conditioning didn't have a handheld remote. The hotel needs to make some improvements.
For solo travelers like me, this place is incredibly convenient because of its excellent transportation links. All the main attractions – whether it's the beach, historic houses, restaurants, or various downtown spots – are within walking distance. I stayed here for a week and didn't need a single taxi. In the evenings, I could just stroll out to a bar or find some great food. I even made quite a few friends! The hotel's restaurant is also very good. Overall, the value for money here is exceptional.
The location is fantastic, right by two large shopping malls, making dining and shopping incredibly convenient—just a three to four-minute walk away. While you'll need a taxi to get to the old town attractions, it means the area is much quieter.
There's a Hua Yang restaurant right under the nearby Gurney Plaza, and the wait times are much shorter than in Kuala Lumpur, so I finally got to eat there!
The facilities are a bit lacking and can't compare to five-star hotels in China.
However, the service is excellent, and they even offer a shuttle bus.
Breakfast was a bit disappointing; they start clearing up right on time, and the variety isn't huge.
Overall, the service was very good and proactive.

This hotel have fantastic location. Walking distance to many great local foods. Have Gym, Swimming pool, FOC Parking.
Hotel reception to restaurant staff are polite and professional. They even what's app me after check in to check how is my stay. Breakfast variety and quality is good. Will come back in future
I booked the hotel for family members travelling to Penang. One thing that stood out is the excellent location. It is super convenient and within walking distance to many hawker centers, street food and nearby attraction. Highly recommended!
We decided to stay at this very unique hotel based on all the great reviews. And we were not disappointed. This hotel is central to so many gorgeous attractions. And even though we had originally wanted to rent one of the many city bicycles available from stations in and around Georgetown, we decided to walk instead, because the heavy traffic and construction worried us. There's just so much to see and do that we became easily overwhelmed. Again, The Loop on Leith is an excellent location that walking around and seeing the sights ends up working out very well, especially when you're avid photographers like we are. I loved the modern decor of our room with its hip and trendy vibes. A rather small room but still very functional. The bathroom is excellent with hot water and very good shower pressure. And our included breakfast buffet was delicious, although I wish there had been a little more variety. And the cooks and staff were very professional and very attentive, always making sure the buffet counter was replenished. Much of the time the breakfast buffet was quite busy. After all, this is a very busy hotel and for good reason. But still, we would easily return here to stay for a few nights. We also enjoyed the Netflix in our room and the beds were very comfortable. Excellent mini fridge and even a little sofa. And we even had a fantastic view of the city. But sometimes it can get noisy, mostly from activity from other guests. Thankfully, I always travel with ear plugs. An incredible little hotel, surrounded by so many top-notch gourmet restaurants too. The hotel has gorgeous decor and awesome personality. This is the place to stay in the heart of Georgetown.
First time staying at the Grand Ol Dame of Penang, celebrating its 140th anniversary. Stayed for 2 nights and the experience was great. Room was spacious and comfortable, facing the sea and you wake up to the sounds of crashing waves. Service was excellent. Breakfast was great, with cook-to-order char koay teow and roti canai, in addition to the standard eggs station. Hotel location was strategic, with plenty of food options a simple Grab ride away. The only thing lacking was the TV, coffee machine and fridge in the room, all of which could use an upgrade.
Fast check in process by Mr Saran. Easy parking access (no need to take any parking ticket. Receptionist will register your car plate number and you can enter and out from parking lot how many time you want). Requested birthday decorations and im so happy when i saw the decoration. It was so amazing! And we get small cake too! Thanks St Giles Wembley Penang for this hospitality! Booked Premier King room. I was impressed by the cleanliness and comfort room. The room was spacious. The bed was comfortable just the pillow is a bit hard for me. Nice view from the room. Quiet room. Breakfast 9/10. Many varieties of food. Delicious! Especially the taufufa. I repeat 3 times 😊. Gym is pretty nice and had adequate equipment. Pool view is Komtar 💜 Great location. Walking distance to 1st Avenue Mall, and most places. Hope this hotel will maintain the services, and cleanliness for long time. Will certainly return to St Giles Wembley Hotel on my next visit to Penang.
