This time, the air conditioning in the room wasn’t as cool as during my previous stay. It might be due to energy-saving measures, but it did affect the overall comfort.
I contacted maintenance on the first night as the room felt warm at 25°C. After servicing, the temperature improved to 23°C. However, it gradually increased again — 24°C the next day and back to 25°C on the day before check-out.
With the current humid and warm weather, I hope the air-conditioning system can be better maintained to ensure a more comfortable stay for guests.
Other than the air-conditioning issue, I really enjoyed the location. It’s very convenient, with massage services, food options, pedicure, and hair treatments all located just next to the hotel, which made the stay much more enjoyable.
We recently stayed at St. Giles Southkey Johor Bahru for four nights. The hotel is very popular, largely because it is directly connected to Mid Valley Southkey Mall, making shopping and dining extremely convenient.
Breakfast can get quite busy and crowded, especially during peak hours. However, if you prefer a quieter experience, it’s better to go during the last 45 minutes before breakfast closes. The staff were efficient in replenishing food items promptly, even when demand was high. There were five coffee machines available, which helped to manage the crowd well and kept waiting times reasonable. The overall buffet spread was average—not exceptional, but sufficient.
Housekeeping was satisfactory, with rooms maintained to a decent standard throughout the stay.
One downside is the check-in time, which is after 3pm. This is slightly later than the typical industry standard in Malaysia and may be inconvenient for some travelers.
Overall, it’s a solid and convenient hotel choice.
2nd stay and loving each stay as smooth self-checking in and self-check out. After confirmation, sent details to number provided and collect key card at e locker upon arrival. Videos and location to collect key card provided after booking confirmed.
Asked for an early check in.
Easy access to eateries, a mall opposite, mini marts below. Gym and pool at level 8.
Clean, quiet and great for a short get away.
Perfect for solo traveler, business trip, families and couples who wants some quiet holiday.
First time here and absolutely love the hotel
Very clean and great stuff
The rooms were a little small but overall still very good
Just 5 mins walk to mid valley mall
Breakfast was one of the best I’ve tried in Jb. Had so much of choices. And very nice too
Hotel delivered the request I put I
Will definitely go again
Very happy

Mixed Experience – Good Service Recovery but Initial Handling Could Be Better
I recently stayed at Holiday Villa Johor Bahru City Centre and had a mixed experience.
For the first two nights, we suspected the room was not properly cleaned as both my husband and I experienced continuous sneezing throughout the stay. I reported this to the front desk after the first night, but no action was taken or escalated. Unfortunately, we had to endure a second uncomfortable night before I raised the issue again to the duty manager.
I must commend the duty manager for her prompt and decisive action — she arranged an immediate room change, which made a significant difference. This level of service recovery was appreciated. However, it is unclear why the initial concern was not escalated earlier by the front desk, which could have prevented unnecessary discomfort.
On a positive note, when I fell sick during the stay, the front desk staff were thoughtful enough to send porridge and warm water to my room — a kind gesture that I truly appreciated.
The hotel’s location is very convenient, and the breakfast selection varies daily, which is a plus. A special mention to the egg station staff — they were consistently friendly and attentive, handling every request with a smile even during busy periods.
Check-out was smooth and efficient.
Overall, while there were some lapses in initial handling, the service recovery and certain staff members’ efforts stood out.
The room is very nice. We like that we can cast from our phone.
The check in was delayed by 2 hours. The staff was very helpful. He gave us all complimentary breakfast. But the breakfast was bad. Too much processed food - chicken nuggets, ham ,etc. too much sugar - donuts, soya milk was too sweet, fruit drinks were too sweet, except for the fresh orange, cucumber and pineapple juice. Those were great. It's definitely not worth the price for our family. St Giles, Opero, Holiday Inn Express at Komptar, Hilton all have better and healthier breakfast.
The swimming pool has too many sharp corners near the children area.
The hotel's location is great, with plenty of food options nearby, and they even accept WeChat Pay, which is very convenient for Chinese travelers. The room was clean, and the air conditioning worked perfectly. Breakfast used to be a buffet, but for some reason, it's now à la carte. I tried to ask why, but they didn't seem to understand. In the end, they made me a plate, and it tasted pretty good.

First time staying at Sunway Hotel Big Box, as my husband was playing golf at Senibong. We booked a Deluxe Twin Room (assigned on the 4th floor), which was nice, spacious, and clean. The air conditioning was powerful too. ”Kashmi” from reservations was very helpful in accommodating my requests. However, at night, you could hear loud music from the pub by the pool until 11pm. Also, around 2am in the middle of the night, we could hear water dripping from the air conditioner, which affected our sleep.
We really loved the cozy and peaceful environment around the hotel, especially the Dona Bakery Cafe. Their pastries were delicious! We also tried the LS Chinese restaurant, which was just so-so. Nevertheless, if you need a short getaway, this is the place for you.

5mins walk to CIQ. Komta shopping mall is just opposite the hotel. Taking grab from hotel is easy. Hotel room is facing Komta shopping mall is abit noisy as there is a pub beside the hotel. Live band singing is very loud and did not stop until 12 midnight. You can’t take a quick shower as you need to have patience to adjust the hot/cold tap to the right temperature otherwise you may get “burnt” from the hot water. We managed the water technique as we stayed the hotel for 2 nights. Hotel bed is comfy and the staff is very nice and helpful.

The location of the hotel is superb. Opposite JB City Square and 5mins away from CIQ. Convenience for those that want to stay near CIQ. Connected to 2 malls. Private car park. Do take note that the car park a bit narrow so be careful. Breakfast varieties considered average, free for kids under the ages of 12. The only they lacking of is their lifts. The lifts always got problem. This time round stuck inside at least 5mins. Not able to go up to our floor although floor level had been pressed. Hopefully they able to rectify the lifts so that everything going smooth.

KKoh Luke ThengI had a wonderful stay at DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and very professional. The check-in process was smooth, and the famous warm DoubleTree cookie made the arrival even more pleasant.
The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable, with a beautiful view of the city. I especially appreciated the comfortable bed and the well-maintained facilities. The housekeeping team did a great job keeping everything spotless.
The hotel location is also very convenient, with easy access to nearby shopping malls, restaurants, and the CIQ checkpoint. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of options and the food quality was excellent.
Overall, it was a relaxing and enjoyable stay. I would definitely recommend DoubleTree by Hilton Johor Bahru to anyone visiting Johor Bahru and look forward to staying here again in the future

Eed anA hotel that i like that is far from the noisy part of jb. Place for me to just chill and sleep, after a day out to shop and makan. Hungry at night or early morning order food, pickup eat on bed and watch TV.
Room is big and clean, aircon strong and make me sleep until tomorrow. Toilet water also hot, feel shiok. Washing machine, shiok I wash clothes then go back can relax no need wash.
Then cny strike midnight, fireworks just out side my balcony. Nice but I scared le, keep shooting fireworks till early morning. Feel like going to hit my balcony. Whole place smoky like got fog. Scary experience, adventure!
Everything is good, but just during checkout the staff looks like a senior staff serving me no expression, no words, shocking by such service.
JJust good enoughI was there for 3 nights, booking 2 rooms with queen size bed.
It was a less than satisfactory experience. I specifically requested for rooms away from elevators but they gave me 2 rooms that are right next to their employee elevator. So it means, the elevator is in between of the 2 rooms that I booked for my parents and I. No doubt, the employee elevator meant less activity but it's still next to the elevator where ppl could easily come up and down.
Secondly, we were unable to get the key card to open the door to the corner room that is for my parents. Took 1 trip down to concierge to inform them about the problem. They programmed the key card again and problem still exists. Only after I told them to relocate my parents to a different floor that they mentioned that the battery in the scanner of the door ran out so they have to get technician to change them. So, that left a bad impression from the getgo.
Thirdly, once we got on that floor, it smelled bad. I had to get housekeeping to spray air-freshener to get rid of the smell. I believe it from the drainage, where if water wasn't used or flushed down, it can start to smell. So my question was, how long was the room toilets not cleaned or flushed? If the rooms were occupied, surely it shouldn't smell.
Fourth, the pool was not what is expected of a hotel pool. Even a boutique hotel pool look better than that. But I don't care too much about pools as I am looking for good place to rest after spending a lot of time sightseeing when I'm traveling.
Fifth, noise insulation wasn't good. I could hear the guest in the next room snoring from my room. Let alone if the guest spoke loudly, I could hear.
The staff were polite and kind for the most part. One or 2 staff may not know certain things but they are probably new to the job and are on training. Not a big matter.
It is situated in a good location. It is 20-25 mins away from Johor city square. It is in a nice suburban neighbourhood, but within a commercial round area with a park in the middle. There is even a big Aeon Mall right opposite the hotel. Traffic isn't bad going into that area.
If you're looking to spend a lot of time in the room during your travel, this is not the one for you. If you want a comfortable room to rest for the night, this is good enough.

CCandace KThe gym, though small, was well-equipped with towels and bottled water. The kids' play area clearly hadn't been tidied up after use, and no one seemed to be cleaning it. It was also incredibly hot in there, with no AC remote in sight. As for the breakfast buffet, it had everything you'd expect, but the only downside was the lack of staff to seat or guide guests. On our first morning, we had to stand next to other tables and wait for a spot to open up 😅. Our room had a QR code for requests, and when we used it, staff were very quick to help with any issues. The only minor flaw was some dust in the room; I actually felt a bit itchy the first night. We were in the East Wing, which honestly felt more like a serviced apartment than a hotel, yet they didn't even provide dish soap 😅😅.
AAudra SuratmanLocation is not near any beach but very close to alot of amenities! There’s a supermarket right infront, laundry mat and nearby a lot of popular breakfast spots. (Eg. Kedai Kopi Otai and Kopitiam Desaru 51) even have nice cafes nearby like comma bakes.
BBryan FangLovely stay here. Wanted to give it a try since it is the latest hotel in JB.
Lobby on ground floor while check-in reception on the 5th floor.
A cafe, club lounge, noodle restaurant and the breakfast restaurant are located on the 5th floor too.
Gym, swimming pool, kids wet playground and function/ballrooms are on the 6th floor.
We stayed in a normal deluxe room. 39m²
Spacious with sitting area and table. Spacious toilet as well. Toilet with bidet. Shower with both rain and handheld shower head. Large dressing table equipped with a lighted face mirror, hairdryer and a variety of toilet amenities.
View from the 12th floor was great. Facing the taman pelangi. Unblocked views.
Staff were all friendly and polite. Many of them greeted us whenever we pass by.
Carpark entrance is on the left side of the hotel building. Carpark is shared with the shopping mall which is stated to open soon in April.
Do let the reception know that you are driving. State your carplate number and be entitled unlimited ins and outs during your stay
Well recommended. Paid 189sgd for a Friday night

AahshanStayed at Sand & Sandals Resort in Desaru and it was such a relaxing and enjoyable experience. The resort has a spacious, tropical vibe with big rooms, comfy beds, and a nice balcony to unwind. The pool area is great for chilling, and the beach is just a short walk away — perfect for morning strolls and golden hour photos.
Service was friendly, and the location made it easy to get around for food, activities, and day trips. It’s a solid choice if you want a fuss-free, beachside stay that feels calm and refreshing.
Overall, a pleasant resort for couples, families, or a girls’ trip getaway. 🌊💛
