The service provided by the staff was first class. The breakfast variety was fabulous as well. There is a night street side food market opposite the hotel which provides interesting food and snacks options. There was also a big park opposite the hotel which provides a good running route.

Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan Stay Experience: Luxury Service Where Details Make All the Difference (January 2, 2026)
Our trip concluding the 2026 New Year's holiday brought us to the Kempinski Hotel, located in the heart of Taiyuan. What started as a regular accommodation choice turned into a highlight of our journey, thanks to the attentive service and unexpected experiences we received throughout our stay.
A day before our arrival, I received a surprising call from the hotel's duty manager. He not only meticulously confirmed basic information like our arrival time and the number of guests but also proactively asked about any special requests or personal preferences, such as a preferred floor, room orientation, or whether we needed a baby crib or extra bedding. When I mentioned my preference for a room with an open view, the manager readily responded that he would do his best to arrange it. This thoughtful, proactive service made me feel warm and welcomed even before checking in.
Upon arriving at the hotel, the front desk quickly processed our check-in and informed me that I had been complimentary upgraded to a 50-square-meter Premium Deluxe View Room. This surprise was especially thoughtful. The moment I opened the door, my first impression was ”immaculately clean and bright”—the floor was spotless, the bedding was pristine and wrinkle-free, and the bathroom's sink, bathtub, and shower area were all dry and clean, with no standing water or unpleasant odors in the corners. Even the curtain tracks and table crevices were dust-free, perfectly meeting the hygiene standards of a five-star hotel. The room featured an elegant European-style decor, complemented by soft, warm lighting, creating a very cozy atmosphere. The oversized floor-to-ceiling window offered a panoramic view of Taiyuan's bustling city center, with towering buildings and busy streets spread out before us. Sunlight filled the room during the day, and at night, the neon lights twinkled, providing an absolutely superb visual experience. The room was fully equipped with amenities, including a mini-bar, smart TV, and branded toiletries. The soft, comfortable king-size bed also helped alleviate travel fatigue, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep.
The breakfast experience the next morning was equally impressive. Elements Western Restaurant, located on the second floor, opened promptly at 6:30 AM. The dining environment was spacious and bright, and the tableware was neatly arranged. The breakfast selection was rich and diverse, catering to both Western and Chinese tastes. We found classic Western options like coffee, bread, bacon, and fried eggs, as well as local Shanxi specialties such as 'lao doufu' (aged tofu), 'yangza' (lamb offal soup), and handmade noodles. There were also Chinese delights like hot congee, steamed buns, and cold appetizers. The variety of fruits, desserts, and yogurt was also extensive. All the ingredients were fresh and delicious, satisfying different taste preferences. The staff were warm and attentive, proactively guiding us to our seats and promptly replenishing tableware and food, making for a comfortable and pleasant dining experience.
Throughout this stay, from the thoughtful pre-arrival communication and the pleasant surprise of a room upgrade to the clean and spacious living environment and the rich and diverse breakfast options, Kempinski Hotel Taiyuan demonstrated its ”home away from home” service philosophy through every detail. Whether for business or leisure travel, this is an excellent choice for accommodation in Taiyuan, and I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit.

This was my second stay at Jianguo Hotel Yungang, and it was quite satisfying. The front desk saw my room preferences (non-smoking, quiet) and provided a room that met my expectations, which was great! The breakfast selection was as plentiful as ever. This time, there were a lot of guests, so they opened up several additional dining areas. Even with more people getting food, the supply was very timely. The late-night congee service was also a thoughtful touch; Xiao Zhang and Xiao Hu, who were in charge, were diligent and quick, refilling items promptly. When they had a free moment, they even chatted with guests, which felt very warm and welcoming.
On the last day, before checking out, I noticed they were paving asphalt and filling potholes outside the entrance. This was tough for the several couples getting married that day – it was hard for cars to get in, and the newlyweds had to get out of their cars and enter the hotel while enduring the black smoke from the asphalt. I hope the hotel can consider local customs and feelings, and schedule such construction for a different time.
Before I left, I noticed a super-sized croissant on the in-room dining menu, which piqued my interest. It looked like sliced hua mo (steamed flower bun). I'll have to see the real thing next time, haha!

I visited Taiyuan during the Chinese New Year and stayed at the Zhanghe Hotel. The location and service were excellent. I booked the hotel on the second day of the ***** New Year, and the price was very reasonable – only 360 yuan per night including breakfast for two. The room had a separate shower and toilet, which was very convenient. They also provided disposable toiletries such as towels, toothbrushes, and toothpaste. Breakfast was served until 10 am; there was still food available around 8 am, but by 9 am, there wasn't much left, probably due to the large number of guests during the Spring Festival.
Free parking was available, and I parked in the parking lot of the Jin Merchant Museum, which was very convenient. I also visited the museum. The hotel is just a few hundred meters from Liuxiang, Gulou Street, and the food street – perfect for shopping and eating! However, it was very crowded during the holiday; all the surrounding restaurants had long queues.

I spent 2 nights in the hotel and I can only say positive things! The room was clean and spacious, the staff was very smiley, helped me organise my trip to the Hanging Temple and despite language barrier, they were patient and we managed to communicate with one another. Furthermore, is located in the ancient city at 5-10 minuets by walk to the main attraction points within the ancient city. I would recommend you to choose this hotel.

It's close to a shopping mall, convenient for travel, and not too far from the airport. However, during my stay, the building next door was under construction, making a lot of noise. Even though it was quiet in the evenings, the noise was still there, even at midnight. The room was dusty; my feet got dirty. But it was okay because it was a cheap price since I only stayed for a short time. The air conditioner worked for both hot and cold temperatures, but the room smelled strongly of cigarette smoke.

Nestled within the scenic area, at the end of a hundred-meter-long alley, this courtyard-style hotel offers a tranquil escape amidst the bustling surroundings. Its classic Chinese design beautifully reflects traditional Northern Chinese architecture, perfectly complementing the ancient city's charm.
The rooms are fully equipped, even featuring a mini-fridge stocked with complimentary bottled water, Sprite, Coke, bananas, apples, tea, coffee, paper cups, and disposable face towels. A tea set is also provided, adding a cozy, home-like touch.
The courtyard is adorned with lush greenery, seating, and picturesque landscaping, ideal for sunbathing. At night, it transforms with brilliant lights, creating a unique and enchanting ambiance.
It's about a 10-minute walk from the ancient city's North Gate parking lot, with dedicated staff available to assist with luggage.
Surrounded by numerous shops, it offers incredible convenience for shopping, dining, and sightseeing.
The staff are warm, friendly, and provide excellent service.
Overall, it's a fantastic guesthouse within the ancient city.

Highly recommended! A rated five-star hotel truly lives up to its name. We arrived quite early and there wasn't a suitable room available, so they immediately upgraded us to a larger room (which was perfectly spacious). All our daily needs were met, and they even offered pear soup at night because Datong's weather is so dry, showing great respect for every guest. The breakfast buffet was absolutely fine in terms of quality (there's a photo of the breakfast knife-cut noodle chef). I also particularly recommend the hotel's Chinese restaurant (there's a photo of us taking food to go for our high-speed train). On our last day, we were rushing from Datong back to Beijing to catch our high-speed train. We misjudged our time at Yingxian Wooden Pagoda and Hanging Temple, but still wanted to enjoy Datong cuisine on the train. We went to the hotel's Chinese restaurant, and the lady who greeted us was incredibly warm and efficient. The chefs were also super impressive, preparing our desired dishes for takeout in just 20 minutes. We made it to the train just in time and enjoyed a fantastic meal on board. I just had to leave a review – our Datong trip was perfect! (There are photos of cats at various attractions).

Traveling with my family during the National Day holiday, we chose Novotel and were warmly welcomed by the staff. The hotel is located in the city center, making it very convenient for getting around and dining. The lobby is bright, clean, and well-maintained, and the facilities are impressive. We look forward to staying here again next time. Thank you!

JJiebudiaodejimoThe location is great, nestled between Yingxun Gate (South Gate) and Shangxi Gate, making it convenient for sightseeing yet surprisingly quiet. The facilities are good, but what really impressed me was picture #2 [assuming this refers to a specific feature/amenity shown in a picture]. I hope they can plug in the outlets before guests check in. The buckwheat pillow was very comfortable! The service was excellent; they communicated in advance about pickup/drop-off and even offered to drive me to attractions. Breakfast was abundant, featuring local specialties like Pingyao beef. It was well-balanced and tasty. The menu changed over the two days, though for me, there was a bit too much meat. If a full buffet isn't feasible, perhaps offering an à la carte menu where guests can choose their items would help reduce waste. And the cats at the hotel are adorable!

GGuest User5-Star Review for Tingbo Hotel
I recently stayed at Tingbo Hotel and had an absolutely exceptional experience that deserves a full 5-star rating. From start to finish, every detail was carefully crafted, making my trip comfortable, memorable, and deeply culturally enriching.
The hotel’s facilities blend elegant new Chinese design with modern convenience perfectly. Rooms are spacious, quiet, and equipped with smart room controls, high-speed Wi-Fi, comfortable bedding, and sleek, well-appointed bathrooms. The hotel also offers a well-maintained gym, a 24-hour self-service laundry room, and elegant public spaces ideal for relaxation and photos.
Cleanliness is impeccable throughout the property. Rooms are spotless, with fresh linens, sanitized surfaces, and tidy layouts that create a welcoming and hygienic environment. Housekeeping is efficient and thoughtful, ensuring a consistently pleasant stay.
Service is warm, professional, and attentive. The front desk team is friendly and efficient, providing useful local travel tips and prompt assistance with any requests. Staff go out of their way to make guests feel valued, with thoughtful touches that enhance the overall experience.
A true highlight is the hotel’s complimentary Shanxi merchant costume rental service. The traditional outfits are well-made and authentic, perfect for capturing beautiful photos in the ancient city. This unique cultural experience deepened my connection to local history and made my trip unforgettable.
In summary, Tingbo Hotel excels in facilities, cleanliness, service, and cultural experience. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area and will definitely return on my next trip.

Outstanding
JJoyfully RetiredThis was the best hotel of my entire trip. It was spotless, andvery well laid out around small courtyards. If I were traveling with a large family , I would request rooms on the first floor that open out into the same courtyard . There were multiple common spaces that were comfortable and interesting. The laundry room was properly equipped and the staff showed me how to use the appliances. Breakfast was delicious, with a variety of hot dishes, noodles made to order, a coffee machine with excellent coffee, and fresh fruit.
The hotel was well located. It fronts onto a quiet tidy alley, one block from the chaotic (and fun) pedestrian food street and shopping street. It was an easy walk to the Shanxi Province group of museums.
I do have a few suggestions.
1. My taxi from the train station could not find the hotel. He left me nearby but I wandered around dragging my suitcase for a good half hour until the six people who joined in to help, were successful! It would help to improve the location identifiers in Amap, and any other map a guest or taxi driver might need.
2. When I asked the front desk for help arranging a taxi to the train station the afternoon before my departure, I was given to understand that I should just go out and hail a taxi the following morning. At 7:00am, there were no taxis anywhere nearby. I ended up walking a kilometer with my bags to take the subway. So…even though the service is great, don’t count on hotel help with transfers. Leave yourself plenty of time and have a “plan B” when you depart. The location is not easy for a taxi to find - cars cannot enter that alley!
RRichard76ukThis weekend, I had the pleasure of staying at the Great Palace Hotel in Datong, and I must say it was an incredible experience from the moment we arrived. The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, checking us in quickly and even upgrading us to the best available room. To our surprise, we were greeted with a thoughtful welcome that included a fresh fruit basket, traditional Chinese soup, and complimentary tea.
The hotel offers an impressive breakfast selection, catering to both local and international tastes. The rooms are spacious, spotlessly clean, and the beds are incredibly comfortable—making it easy to unwind after a day of sightseeing.
This was my second time staying at the Great Palace Hotel, and once again, it exceeded expectations. Its location is ideal—right in the heart of the city, close to all major tourist attractions and just a few kilometers from the train station. Special thanks to Manager 崔经理, who was exceptionally kind and helpful throughout our stay. I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Datong.
What truly sets this hotel apart is the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality of the staff. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or returning guest, the service remains consistently high. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between traditional charm and modern comfort, making it a reliable choice for both leisure and business travelers. From check-in to check-out, every aspect of our stay was smooth, relaxing, and enjoyable.

Very Good
GGuest UserThe location of the hotel is perfect. It is the right place to stay when visiting the Hanging Temple and Jin Temple. The room and bed are large, especially suitable for bringing children. It is no problem for a family of three to stay in a big bed. The bathroom is separated into dry and wet areas. The breakfast is also very good. Overall, it is very cost-effective.
MM522647****Walking into the lobby, there was a faint, pleasant aroma. The front desk staff was incredibly welcoming. I had booked a King Room, but since I arrived early and it wasn't ready, the kind lady at the front desk upgraded me to an Executive King Room for free! The room was quite spacious and very clean, and most importantly, it was quiet, so I slept really well. It's about 3km from the shopping mall, and breakfast was also plentiful. The knife-cut noodles and lamb soup were super delicious. Definitely a hotel worth recommending! 👍
Dd 123Although it is an old hotel, the service attitude is still very comfortable. Ms. Cairong at the front desk helped me deliver my luggage to the room.
The dining environment is very clean and hygienic, and the dishes are plentiful... The waiter Guo Defeng has been warmly asking what to drink, and he also helped to bring fruits. The chef Han Maorong is also a super funny girl, telling me that there are freshly cooked noodles, wontons, fried eggs, etc. , The variety is quite complete~ The hotel as a whole makes me feel very comfortable and awesome!
