AAnonymous UserLet me start with the location.
-a little bit far from the center, had to drive around 5-10 mins to reach nearest 7e. forget about the other attractions, it needs more than 30 mins from the hotel.
Staff.
-i dont know but i feel like not helpful enough. they could’ve done better for the so called “5 stars” hotel wannabe.
Cleanliness.
-well it was clean BUT! right when we entered the room we saw the notice of the charlie ants. we were so scared to touch the floor with bare foot as i lost count on how much we had seen and managed to kill the insects on our own!
Buffet.
-was ok, not the best. many verities to choose from. well at least they tried.
Facilities.
-they won this time. my only complaint was the insects on the floor and walls of the toilet.
ZZuileThe hotel staff were incredibly dedicated and responsive to all our requests. The room was clean and tidy. The beach behind the hotel is a bit small, but it's shared with the neighboring hotels, so you can walk along it, and the scenery is still beautiful. However, the hotel's internal landscaping is fantastic. It's definitely worth another visit.
GGuest UserThe hotel is about 40-50 minutes from the city center and roughly an hour from the airport. If you're not in a rush, public transport is an option. Arriving at Penang Airport at 7:30 AM, it was perfect to grab breakfast before checking into the hotel. We added an extra bed, which was quite low, like a camp bed. We asked if we could get another mattress, and they said they'd check but never got back to us, so we just let it go. For our 5:30 AM return flight, we pre-ordered a takeaway breakfast the day before. The balcony was very spacious with expansive views. The private beach was just okay, a bit rocky underfoot. The entertainment activities were a bit underwhelming; they said 10 minutes but we only got about 3 minutes of actual play. There were staff who spoke Chinese, so communication was no problem. There are no dining options right by the hotel, but there's a restaurant called 'Da Dong Seafood Restaurant' that's pretty good and offers great value for money. You might have to queue during peak hours, and getting a taxi back could incur a surcharge.
GGuest UserThis resort offers great value for money. It's about a 5-minute walk to where the fire dance show takes place. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful, proactively assisting with luggage during both check-in and check-out. Although the pool isn't very large, it wasn't crowded during my visit, making for a pleasant experience. The hotel also has direct access to the beach.
GGuest UserThe hotel isn't in a bustling area, but getting around by car is quite convenient. The cleanliness was just okay; the daily room cleaning needs improvement, as the floor wasn't properly cleaned and hair was left behind. Also, the bathroom sink didn't even have hand soap.
AAnonymous UserViews are really good. Overall experience ok but there is no lift from carpark to lobby, only staircase.. recommend to drop luggage before going down to basement carpark else you have to carry up which is quite inconvenient
Another downside is soundproof not really good. Especially when the crew cleaning room beside, we can hear the vacuum and some noise early in the morning around 8-9am 😔
GGuest UserUnfortunately, my stay at Shangri-La Rasa Sayang was disappointing, especially considering that I paid around RM3,000 for two nights in the Rasa Wing.
The hotel is clean and the staff are generally friendly, but the entire property feels extremely outdated — from the exterior and lobby to the rooms. The room had a very hard bed, an old non-Smart TV with no YouTube or modern features, and the toilet blind was not working properly, leaving a gap where people outside could still see in. Overall, the room felt like an old hotel room with very little modernisation.
The Rasa Wing benefits were also disappointing. The afternoon tea and evening cocktails were average, with limited variety and quality that did not feel up to a five-star standard. The evening cocktail selection in particular was very limited and boring.
Service was friendly but extremely slow and disorganised. I had requested and reconfirmed a complimentary birthday cake/decorations for my father’s birthday before arrival, but nothing was ready when we entered the room. The cake and decorations only arrived later in the evening while we were already in the room. Even the minibar was empty and only stocked later. The check-in and escort to the room were also confusing and slow.
For comparison, I paid a similar amount for my stay at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, which is also an older hotel. However, the experience there was completely different — the hotel is beautifully maintained, comfortable, updated and truly feels like a five-star property. The service, room, food and overall experience were exceptional.
Being an older hotel is not an excuse for feeling outdated. If Shangri-La Rasa Sayang is not planning to renovate and modernise the property, the price should be reduced. At around RM3,000 for two nights, I honestly did not feel that this stay was worth the money.
AAshmimI had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The room was clean, comfortable, and was spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay. The location is perfect, close to shops and attractions. Breakfast had a good variety and tasted great. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting..
AAnonymous UserI did a lot of research before deciding on Hotel Sentral Seaview by the Beach.
Most reviews weren’t favorable however I was willing to take a risk considering my last hotel was horrible.
Overall, I was surprised and it has exceeded my expectations. Having said that my expectations were pretty low!
Positives:
- Rooms were clean. The hardware of the hotel has undergone some major wear and tear. However, the hotel and room has undergone a fresh coat of paint. There is a faint smell of paint, but that for me wasn’t a negative.
- Initially in my room was facing the hotel next-door. On the same level I could see the security guards and the neighbor hotel walk back-and-forth. As a female guest, this made me feel super uncomfortable. I went downstairs and requested a room change. The response from the front desk was “Just close your curtains.” In the end I was changed to another room on the other side of the hotel facing the ocean.
- The view! Wow. Seeing and hearing the waves from the beach.. all the stress falls away! Because I was given this room, I made the decision to rebook another 2 nights at the hotel!
- Wi-Fi was strong.
- Hardly anyone using the pool, which made it really peaceful and quiet. Water is cool and clean. On the first day I was there the hotel were doing maintenance and cleaning of the pool area.
- The beach is quiet (not many people)
- and quite clean.
- Right in front of the hotel, few footsteps away is a huge food court with lots of variety of food. It’s fantastic. 10 min walk is Lotus Mall.
- There is a bus stop outside. Take 101 to go to Batu Ferringhi Beach.
- 200 m from the hotel is the Oceano Symphony cafe. Good food and drinks.
- Breakfast - was basic but ok.
- Staff are friendly and helpful!
Overall, the positives outweighed the negatives. I can understand that this hotel may not be the standard of a lot of international guests. But for peace, little crowds and sounds of the waves, in a quiet spot on the Penang island it’s been great.
GGuest UserWhat a fantastic accommodation. My husband and I loved the place. The room was spacious, and bed was comfortable. No issue with noise.at all and zero issue with a good night sleep. As this hotel is just newly opened, everything is very new.
The service from the team is excellent, helpful and friendly. We love the common areas like the laundry room which also served as a chill out room for a game of pool or some board games. The seating area beside the pool is also a nice place to just relax. I did not try their breakfast so cannot attest to that.
If I have to really pick on something, it's that the shower control of the water feels very sensitive and takes a little getting used to to get the right temperature. Water pressure is also not the strongest. However this did not at all affect our experience of this stay. Would come back to this hotel in a heartbeat. ❤️
