Location: About a 10-minute walk from Kyoto Station, the location is great (there's even a direct airport line from Osaka Kansai Airport). Cleanliness: Very clean, with bidets everywhere – very comforting. I really like Japan's integrated bathrooms. Facilities: It's quite new. Being able to screen mirror was a pleasant surprise. Comfort: If there are two people, I recommend booking a twin room. Japanese double beds are too small and cramped. It's tiny but has everything, though overall it felt a bit cramped. The design is quite thoughtful, and there are bedside lamps. Service: Japanese hotels are usually known for their service, but there was absolutely none here. 1. Check-in and check-out are both self-service (I wonder what the four or five staff members at the front desk actually do – no wonder Japan's job market is good and not competitive). 2. I left something at the hotel this time. It took several hours for them to reply to my online message and email, and no one answered the phone (it reminded me of Mu Xin's poem, 'In the past, the days passed slowly, cars and mail were slow, one only loved one person in a lifetime' – tsk tsk tsk).

One of the most unforgettable stays we’ve ever had. From the moment my family stepped through the door, we were wrapped in a warm, cosy ambience that instantly made us feel at ease. The room was impeccably clean and wonderfully comfortable, offering the perfect space to relax and unwind. Both dinner and breakfast were nothing short of exceptional—each meal thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delightful. The onsen, overlooking a serene river view, was the true highlight, creating a tranquil and almost dreamlike experience. Every moment spent there felt precious and completely worthwhile.

The hotel is a bit out of the way, about a 2000 JPY taxi ride from Gifu city center. The rooms are spacious, with large bathrooms, walk-in closets, and big beds. Although a bit old, it's clean and suitable for families. Service was just okay; we had to go to the front desk ourselves to get an extra bottle of water. Since we were just transiting through Gifu, we only stayed for one night. I wouldn't recommend it for travelers looking for convenient access to explore Gifu.

Good location with alternative nearby car parks for parking. The hotel is very clean run by helpful staff who can speak English. The rooms are ok in size and the breakfast is very varied and delicious and serve mainly Japanese food. The staff are very attentive and polite. There is a public bath for use. The shower was hot and powerful. One needs to pack away outdoor shoes before entering the hotel with plastic lightweight slippers and lockers provided. All in all a very excellent stay.

Highly recommend! The entire service was excellent. As soon as we got off the bus, there's an iCafe right under the JR station where you can drop off your luggage. They then send it directly to the hotel for you. So by the time you're done exploring and ready to check in, your bags are already in your room. Plus, there's a shuttle bus every hour from 6:30 AM to 9:15 PM that picks you up and drops you off at the JR station, making the whole experience very thoughtful. The hot springs are also a highlight – there are many outdoor baths, all super relaxing. Breakfast is very substantial too; you absolutely have to try the fish and natto. The front desk staff were incredibly accommodating as well. They proactively added an extra bed for us. We're two adults and one child, and our room originally only had two standard beds, but they added another one next to them even before we checked in.

This is by far the most traditional Japanese-style hotel I've ever stayed in, and it set a wonderful tone for our Nagoya trip. My parents absolutely loved it. **Service:** Standard Japanese service – very attentive. Although English communication was a bit challenging, they diligently used translation software. **Facilities:** Impeccable! I enjoyed my favorite onsen; the outdoor bath was truly exceptional, and the indoor one was also very spacious. The room decor was classic, just like something out of a Japanese drama, and someone even came to prepare our beds in the evening. At first, I worried it might be cold, but the electric blanket underneath was incredibly warm. So unique! For dinner, even though the variety was limited, the chicken wings were exceptionally delicious, and the fishball hotpot was also very good. My dad even complimented the rice! **Cleanliness:** Very good. Despite the older facilities, everything was spotless. **Environment:** The outdoor foot onsen looked so interesting, but I didn't get to try it this time. You could easily spend half a day just exploring the hotel itself. If you're not rushed, staying two days to fully soak it all in would be wonderful. The hotel is located at the highest point in Gero. Walking slowly downhill from there, time seemed to slow down, and everything felt peaceful and serene. I will always remember this place. ☺️

Tokyu Stay Hida-Takayama MusubinoYu I had a wonderful stay at Tokyu Stay Hida-Takayama Musubi no Yu, and it was truly one of the highlights of my trip. 👍 Pros Superb Location The location is perfect — it’s right next to both the bus terminal and the train station. This made arrival and departure extremely easy, especially when traveling with luggage. Everything felt very convenient. Plenty of Restaurants Nearby There are many restaurants within walking distance, so finding a place to eat was never a problem. Whether you want local Hida beef or simple Japanese dishes, there are lots of options around. FamilyMart Around the Corner Having a FamilyMart just around the corner was very convenient. It was easy to grab snacks, drinks, or anything we needed at any time. Good Breakfast The breakfast was good, with a nice variety of dishes. Everything tasted fresh and satisfying — a great way to start the day before sightseeing. Private Onsen Experience One of the best parts of our stay was visiting the private onsen. It was so relaxing and peaceful, and it felt like a special experience after a long day of walking. Definitely a memorable highlight! ⭐ Overall Tokyu Stay Hida-Takayama MusubinoYu is an excellent choice for anyone visiting Takayama. With its unbeatable location, convenient surroundings, and relaxing private onsen, it offers both comfort and a unique Japanese experience. I would happily stay here again.

Every year at the end of the year, I visit Takayama, mainly to see the snow scenery in Shirakawa-go, and this hotel has pretty much become my go-to choice. What I love most is the service; the staff are all incredibly warm and attentive, making for a very comfortable stay. Plus, you can book a private onsen, which is wonderfully quiet and relaxing – a real highlight of the trip. Last year, the room I stayed in had a beautiful Japanese tatami area, which really added to the traditional Japanese ambiance. It's a shame I couldn't book that room type this time; it seems they no longer have it, which is a bit disappointing. Nevertheless, the overall experience was still excellent, and I'll likely choose to stay here again next time I'm in Takayama.

DDavid BuffyMeatyAwesome hotel located just 5-10mins walk behind FamilyMart ie opposite the TAKAYAMA NOHI Bus Stn & JR. The check in was easy & front desk staff was very professional ensuring the process was easy & swift! The hotel has a great & large Hot Spring and outdoor Rotenburo Onsen they’re segregated Men-Women. The onsen lobby has large lounge space to relax, free ice cream and a large full length glass window overlooking you may sit on chairs & coin operated massage chairs enjoying the beautiful town and fabulous snow capped mountains at the edge of the town in the day & sunrise!! The morning Japanese breakfast options are plentiful, staffs are helpful and friendly too! To walk to the Old Houses District perhaps only take 15mins leisure walk but gets really quiet & dark by 6PM in March!

CCrystallmoonIt was a wonderful stay in this Modern but yet a little traditional hotel. It is not fully a Ryokan but yet the whole hotel is on Tatami from lift lobby right to your room. Onsen was good as there are private and public pools available. Not forgetting serving free Ramen for supper is definitely a plus point especially in winter.

ZzizibehappyArriving in Takayama by highway bus, I chose to stay at the same Residence Hotel as my previous visit. It's incredibly convenient, located just a left turn from the Nohi Bus Terminal exit, making it zero distance from both the bus and JR stations. The luxury suite is huge, featuring a balcony, four beds, and a fully equipped kitchen with pots, pans, a microwave, and a large refrigerator. The washing machine with a dryer was an absolute lifesaver. Even better, all the drinks in the fridge were complimentary, including two 2L bottles of mineral water, beer, sake, green tea, and cola. Basic condiments like salt, soy sauce, pepper, and cooking oil were also provided. There's a supermarket right next door, perfect for buying Hida beef and cooking up a feast.

MM60550****Environment and Service: The hotel is quite large and relatively new, with a big courtyard perfect for a stroll. There's also a shuttle service to and from the station. The only minor drawback is that rooms on one side face the train tracks, which can be a bit noisy, and the soundproofing isn't great.

雲尼王A small hot spring hotel. I really feel the hotel's care. Compared to more prosperous areas, I prefer this kind of remote small hotel. I feel that the hotel wants to do every place carefully. Although the price is cheap, there are many details. Everything is well done. For example, there is a self-service snack and drink area in the lobby, which is available 24 hours a day. Yukata for children is also provided. The hotel rooms are very clean. I wonder if they have been renovated, so the rooms are very new and clean.

YYihebitaoThis is a quintessential traditional Japanese onsen ryokan. The hot springs leave your skin smooth and your muscles relaxed, the beef is delicious, the facilities are spotless, and the service is incredibly thoughtful and attentive (even though most of the younger staff are Burmese, they're exceptionally well-trained and just as good as Japanese staff). I especially recommend the private onsen – soaking in the hot spring while watching trains pass in the distance is like something out of an anime! Plus, the massage therapist grandpa here is skilled and reasonably priced; just make sure to book early. A post-bath pressure massage from him will melt away all the day's fatigue. This ryokan is within walking distance of all the attractions. If you arrive outside of shuttle hours, you can use a designated taxi from the station for free. I'd love to visit again during autumn leaf season.
