Hotels in Xishan District, Kunming

I checked into the Mengjing Wangyue Courtyard Hotel on August 21st, and my experience was absolutely amazing! This Chinese-style courtyard hotel, tucked away next to the Jinma Biji Archway on Kunming's Nanping Pedestrian Street, makes you feel relaxed the moment you step in. With its two courtyards, arhat pine bonsai, ancient well, and fish pond, even the air carries the scent of Pu'er tea – it perfectly balances tranquility with its bustling surroundings. The room features a black and white new Chinese style. The bedding was clean and soft, with yellow throw pillows and a bed runner adding just the right touch. The bathroom has a wet and dry separation, and all the fixtures have a brass finish – a detail-lover's dream! The biggest surprise was breakfast: freshly cooked Crossing-the-Bridge Noodles with a rich broth and a wide variety of toppings. The front desk staff, a few young ladies, were incredibly warm and helpful. They not only assisted with luggage and recommended local delicacies but also thoughtfully suggested old-fashioned snack shops nearby, giving clear directions. The hotel's public area also offers free refreshments and various experiences. Spending an evening in the courtyard, sipping Dianhong tea and watching the fish swim, felt like traveling back to the slow pace of old Kunming. The location is also unbeatable. It's a 6-minute walk to the Jinma Biji Archway, and Ri Jin Lou is right across the street, making it a one-stop shop for exploring, eating, and taking photos. Next time I'm in Kunming, I'll definitely stay here again – it's not that other hotels are struggling, it's just that this one perfectly balances ”local culture” and ”comfortable experience”!

Having traveled to over 20 countries, this is my first time reviewing an accommodation. When you're on the road, you often miss home. But not here! We booked the Loft, with a living room on the first floor and a bedroom on the second, it felt just like home. We enjoyed tea daily, and the hotel even provided complimentary afternoon tea. The 24-hour butler service was excellent, always available and responsive. They thoughtfully prepared a travel guide for us. The daily breakfast was a delicious mix of Chinese and Western options! We will definitely be back.

My overall experience at the Sofitel Kunming was extremely satisfying this time. The hotel is located in the city center, which is an excellent location, making it very convenient whether for shopping by taxi or visiting various attractions. The hotel has an elegant French style throughout, and the lobby is grand and appealing. The room was clean and tidy, and the bedding was soft and comfortable, making for a great stay. The staff member Mia was friendly and efficient with the check-in process, and all the facilities were well-equipped. Every aspect of the trip was pleasant, with almost no flaws to pick out, making it a wonderful stay. Next time I'm in Kunming, I will not hesitate to choose this hotel again.

Yitel Premium is situated in a fantastic location in Kunming! Super close to Old Street where you can find tons of food, shopping, teas & coffees galore! The hotel was lovely - super comfortable bed, good smelling bathroom amenities, and complimentary water. We used the laundry facility and it was very useful. Breakfast options were a bit limited, but still everything we ate was delicious. This hotel's location makes it prime real estate, I highly recommend!!

My overall stay exceeded expectations. The hotel boasts an elegant and clean environment, and the lobby has a great vibe. Check-in at the front desk was quick and efficient, and the staff were gentle and patient. My room had excellent natural light and was spotlessly clean inside. The bedding was incredibly soft, and I had a very peaceful night's sleep. The hot water was consistent, and the bathroom amenities were complete. The surrounding area has convenient transportation, making it easy to dine and shop. I'll definitely choose this place again for my next visit.

Facilities: A bit old, but generally pretty good. The bed is neither too soft nor too hard. The duvet is fine with the AC on, but it can get a bit warm without it, given Kunming's large temperature variations. There's a small garden and an outdoor hot tub, but apparently it's not usable. It's very photogenic though! The living room and bedroom are separate, which is great for families or multiple families staying together as you can chat comfortably. There are also seating areas in the room corridors where you can relax and talk. Being inside the scenic area, the courtyard rooms are quiet. Other room types might be a bit noisier. At midday, it can feel quite bustling outside with traffic and vendors calling out. The courtyard suites, however, are not noisy at all. The location is in the Jinbi area, not far from Nanping Old Street. Just cross a road and walk through Nanping Hui, and you're in a commercial area. For food and drinks, there are snacks right downstairs, though not many main courses. I think the options across the street are better. The hotel breakfast is à la carte and needs to be ordered a day in advance. We tried it one day, but after that, we opted for takeout or ate out. The hotel service is quite good. They have a butler service, and the staff's attitude is very pleasant. When we had a delay, they helped us coordinate a later checkout. For transport, since it's within the scenic area, you'll probably need to walk a bit after getting off the car. However, you can also have your car drive to the parking lot, and there's an elevator near the exit that takes you up.

I stayed for three consecutive nights and was very satisfied with both the hotel's environment and service. The front desk staff, lobby attendants, and doormen all demonstrated excellent service awareness. In particular, customer service representative Annie called me before my arrival to confirm my estimated arrival time and any specific needs for my stay. As I was traveling with a child, I shared some requests with her. Upon checking in, I was delighted to find that the room was prepared with everything a child might need, including toiletries, slippers, dental kits, and bathrobes. They even complimentary children's breakfast. I want to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude for this. If I visit Kunming again, this will definitely be my top choice!

The hotel room was very clean and odor-free. The bed was comfortable, the front desk service was attentive, check-in was quick, and the staff were friendly and polite. The hotel environment was quiet, well-equipped, and convenient for getting around. Overall, a very good stay experience, great value for money, highly recommended.

We stayed at Kunming PAPMAN Hotel Wanda for our first night in Kunming, and honestly, it was by far the best hotel of our entire stay. We only stayed for one night and didn’t have a chance to explore the surrounding area, but the hotel itself was exceptional. The hotel occupies two floors within a larger building, so there isn’t direct access to the hotel lobby from the ground floor. However, the hotel contacted us in advance with clear instructions on where to meet them at the car park. The staff came down to meet us, helped with all our luggage and brought us up to the lobby. This could have been an inconvenience, but the level of service completely made up for it. The staff were incredibly attentive, warm and genuinely went above and beyond from the moment we arrived. The hotel itself is beautifully designed. Every corner was thoughtfully decorated and incredibly photogenic, and the overall aesthetic was stylish without compromising on comfort. Even our room was beautifully designed, comfortable and very well equipped, with lots of thoughtful amenities included. The views from the hotel were also lovely. Unfortunately, it was raining during our stay, so we didn’t get to properly enjoy or photograph the rooftop pool, which was a little disappointing — but it gives us another reason to come back! One of our favourite additions was the photoshoot. The hotel was incredibly accommodating and allowed us to arrange a much earlier photoshoot slot because we were short on time. The experience was so good that we ended up purchasing additional photos beyond the three included with our room. It was such a fun and memorable experience. Our room rate also included afternoon tea, although we arrived at night and unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to try it. However, supper was included and was honestly one of the highlights. It was a combination of semi-buffet and made-to-order dishes, with a surprisingly good variety. Everything we tried was delicious, and there was more than enough food. It was such a nice and unexpected inclusion, especially after travelling all day. We were also celebrating our child’s birthday during our stay, and the hotel had thoughtfully prepared a birthday cake and a little present for him in advance. It was such a sweet and thoughtful touch, and really made us feel welcomed and looked after❤️ Overall, we were genuinely impressed by this hotel. From the beautiful design and comfortable rooms to the incredible service, thoughtful inclusions, photoshoot and birthday surprise, everything felt very well thought out. The service in particular really stood out — the staff were attentive, friendly and incredibly helpful throughout our short stay. We only stayed one night and didn’t leave the hotel during our stay, so unfortunately we can’t comment much on the surrounding area or its convenience for exploring Kunming. But based purely on our experience at the hotel, we would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

The bed in the room was wonderfully soft and comfortable – I instantly felt all my travel fatigue melt away. I also really appreciated the smart dry/wet separation design in the bathroom, which made it super convenient to use. The overall decor beautifully blended Chinese style with ethnic elements, creating a charming and classic ambiance that felt truly relaxing. My overall experience was fantastic!
