Indonesia’s Whoosh high speed train has completely changed the way travellers move between Jakarta and Bandung. Instead of sitting in a car for several hours, you can zip across West Java at speeds of up to 350 km/h and reach the Bandung area in around 40 to 45 minutes.
The service officially began commercial operations in October 2023 and was the first high speed railway in Southeast Asia. The train can reach speeds of up to 350 km/h, making it one of the fastest ways to travel between Jakarta and Bandung.
The name Whoosh comes from the Indonesian phrase Waktu Hemat, Operasi Optimal, Sistem Hebat, which roughly refers to saving time, efficient operations and an effective system.
For Singaporean travellers, the biggest advantage is simple: less time on the road and more time exploring.

The Whoosh route runs through four stations:
Halim → Karawang → Padalarang → Tegalluar Summarecon
The stations are located outside the traditional city centres, so choosing your arrival station is important when planning your itinerary.
Halim is the main Whoosh station in Jakarta and is located in East Jakarta.
It is connected with other public transport options, including the Jabodebek LRT, making it relatively convenient to reach from different parts of Jakarta. The station also has road connections and other onward transport options.
For tourists staying in central Jakarta, allow extra time to travel from your hotel to Halim Station, especially during peak traffic periods.
Karawang Station serves the Karawang area between Jakarta and Bandung.
It started operating as a Whoosh station in December 2024 and was introduced to provide better access for travellers heading to Karawang and surrounding areas.
It is not normally the first choice for tourists heading to central Bandung, but it can be useful if Karawang is part of your itinerary.
Padalarang is the station you should remember if your main goal is Bandung city centre.
The station is located in Bandung Barat rather than central Bandung. However, it is connected to Bandung by the KA Feeder, making it a convenient option for travellers who want to continue towards central Bandung.
The feeder connection is one of the most useful things to know before booking your Whoosh ticket.
Tegalluar Summarecon is located in the eastern Bandung area.
It is useful for destinations around Gedebage, Summarecon Bandung and eastern Bandung. Shuttle buses and other onward transport options are available around the station.
If your hotel is in central Bandung, however, Padalarang can be more convenient because of the direct feeder connection.
One of the fun things about the Whoosh Train is that you do not necessarily have to go all the way into central Bandung.
Several attractions are accessible from or around the stations, particularly Padalarang.
Tepi Danau is around 7 km from Padalarang Station and takes approximately 14 minutes by car.

Entry is around IDR 20,000(S$1.40) on weekdays and IDR 40,000(S$2.90) on weekends and public holidays, with selected activities charged separately.
There are also shuttle arrangements from Padalarang Station, making it one of the more convenient attractions for Whoosh passengers.
Farmhouse Lembang is around 24 km from Padalarang Station.
It is known for its European inspired architecture, gardens, photo spots and the famous Hobbit House. Entrance is around IDR 35,000 (S$2.50) per person.
It is a fun option for travellers who enjoy taking plenty of photos and want to experience the cooler atmosphere around Lembang.
Floating Market Lembang is around 21 km from Padalarang Station.
You can explore food stalls, gardens and family attractions while enjoying the cooler weather of Lembang.
Entrance is around IDR 35,000 (S$2.50) per person, with additional charges for selected activities.
Located around 24 km from Padalarang Station, The Great Asia Africa takes you through themed areas inspired by different Asian and African cultures.
You can find Japanese, Korean, Indian and other themed areas, making it another fun stop for travellers who enjoy taking photos.

For travellers who simply want to get from Jakarta to Bandung to quickly, Whoosh is hard to ignore.
Jakarta and Bandung are relatively close on the map, but road traffic can make the journey much longer than expected. Whoosh removes much of that uncertainty.

If you only have one day, you can make the most of the Whoosh Train.
Start your morning in Jakarta and head to Halim Station.
Take a morning Whoosh service towards Padalarang.
From Padalarang, continue towards Bandung by feeder train or travel to an attraction around the station.
Spend the afternoon exploring Bandung, grabbing a plate of local food and enjoying the city's cooler atmosphere.
Then return towards Padalarang or Tegalluar for your evening Whoosh service back to Jakarta.
For a more relaxed trip, staying overnight in Bandung is even better. That way, you do not spend the whole day watching the clock for your return train.
This is probably the most important tip.
If you hotel is around the central Bandung, Padalarang is usually the more practical Whoosh station because you can transfer to the KA Feeder and continue to Bandung Station.
Do not simply search for "Bandung" and assume the high speed train will drop you in the middle of the city.
Halim is the Jakarta station, but Bandung has more than one Whoosh arrival point.
Check whether your destination is closer to Padalarang or Tegalluar Summarecon before purchasing your ticket.
A few extra minutes spent checking the map can save you a surprisingly long road transfer later.
Do not treat Whoosh like hopping onto the MRT at Dhoby Ghaut.
The stations are large and you still need time to find your gate, scan your ticket and board.
Arriving around 30 minutes before departure is a comfortable option, especially if it is your first time using the service.
Have your booking QR code ready on your phone before entering the station.
This saves you from standing at the gate trying to find the confirmation email while everyone behind you is waiting.
If you choose Padalarang, remember that your Bandung journey continues with the KA Feeder.
The feeder service is integrated with Whoosh operations, and KCIC has stated that its timetable is coordinated with Whoosh arrivals and departures.
The Whoosh journey itself is very fast, but your total travel time is not simply the trains' 40 to 45 minutes.
You still need to travel from your hotel to Halim, wait at the station, take the train, transfer from Padalarang if necessary and continue to your hotel or attraction.
For itinerary planning, think of Whoosh as fast intercity connection, rather than a door to door journey.
This is especially important if you spend the day around Bandung.
Before returning to Jakarta, confirm whether you need to head to Padalarang or Tegalluar Summarecon.
Do not wait until the last minute to check. Bandung traffic can be unpredictable.
For Singaporeans travelling between Jakarta and Bandung, the Whoosh Train is one of the easiest ways to save travel time.
