We had an overall enjoyable stay at Sofitel in Krabi, with a few areas that could be improved—especially given the expectations of a five-star property.
The location is a clear highlight. The beach is calm and relatively private, without the usual crowd of boats, which made for a very relaxing environment.
The breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety and consistently good quality. The overall decor of the lobby and restaurants was also beautifully done, creating a pleasant and refined atmosphere for both breakfast and dinner.
However, service was somewhat inconsistent. Room service could be slow at times, and on a few occasions, items like trash left outside the room were not cleared promptly. There were also communication lapses—for example, we had requested assistance to coordinate with an elephant sanctuary, but the message was not properly followed through between staff members.
There were also minor maintenance issues, such as a non-functioning balcony light, which we chose not to escalate but would have expected to be addressed proactively at this level.
For a family room, we expected more thoughtful child-friendly design. Simple things like a stool for children to reach the sink were missing, which made basic routines unnecessarily difficult and less safe.
The pool facilities were decent but not outstanding, and cleanliness could be improved. In particular, the kiddie pool had visible debris and bugs, which made it less comfortable for young children. We also found the pool safety setup confusing and somewhat concerning. There were clear warnings stating that there are no lifeguards and that parents are responsible for supervision. However, there was consistently a staff member seated by the pool under a shaded area, appearing like a lifeguard but not actively monitoring the pool. This created a misleading impression and could give families a false sense of security. During our stay, we also witnessed a situation where a child became stuck under part of the pool obstacle structure, and assistance had to be actively requested from nearby staff. While the situation was resolved, it reinforced our concern that supervision and safety measures could be more proactive. Given the number of safety warnings posted around the pool, we were surprised that no trained lifeguard was present, especially as the current setup may give families a false sense of supervision.
One of the main drawbacks was the pricing structure. Many services and items felt excessively priced, including:
• Food at the on-site restaurants (significantly higher than comparable options outside the resort)
• Transport and excursion arrangements (e.g., speedboat pricing well above market rates)
• Activity rentals, such as the Sub Blue underwater scooter (350 THB++ for 30 minutes), which felt disproportionately expensive
• Additional charges for small requests, including delivery fees for food within the property
These added costs created a sense of being “nickel-and-dimed,” which detracted from the overall experience.
Overall, while we appreciated the beautiful location, excellent breakfast, and well-designed spaces, we felt that service consistency, family-friendliness, safety clarity, and value for money could be improved to better align with five-star expectations.FromBRL 474

It's hard to dislike this place as the view makes up for a lot. Some of the amenities are a bit dated. We had some bad luck with our jacuzzi tub not working properly but after we got the staff to understand what was wrong they came and fixed it.
They are very accommodating and they really do their best to make your stay as nice as possible.
Pay the extra money for the breakfast. It's really worth it. So much choice and made with care.
The one big downside really is that you have to hike the monkey trail or catch a boat to get to Ao Nang. And the hotel food prices are a bit on the high side. We didn't mind ourselves, but if you have difficulty climbing the stairs it might be inconvenient. At night the longtail boats from Ao Nang Beach ask a ridiculous amount of money to ferry you to the hotel.
On the plus side; you get an amazing view every time you look out your window. The bed is comfortable. The food (if you don't mind the cost) is tasty. The staff is super nice. The pool is great. Did I mention how amazing the view was already?
It really is a tranquil place and we enjoyed our time there immensely. So, no 5* but that's only 'cause I think the attention to detail could be a bit better for the price range.Very Good294 Reviews

This was my second stay at this hotel. The front desk attendant who spoke Chinese had a lovely, sweet smile, and all the staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The hotel facilities were fine, but I do hope for more variety at breakfast. The clear waters and complimentary water activities are a definite plus. We enjoyed beautiful sunsets in the evening and a stunning starry sky at night.
My only complaint concerns the two-bedroom ocean view pool villa we booked this time. We stayed in room 2302, and the air conditioning vent had a design flaw: it was positioned directly above the main bed, and the noise was so loud that it kept us awake for several nights. We complained to the front desk, and they sent staff to adjust the vent to blow left, right, and upwards, but it didn't make a noticeable difference. We requested a room change, but the hotel was almost fully booked, so they couldn't accommodate us. Our request for an early check-out was also unsuccessful.
To fellow travelers planning a stay: if you're booking a villa, I strongly recommend opting for the upper floor Sala Ocean View Villa. Do NOT book the type I stayed in, otherwise you'll truly regret it – it's a waste of money, and your overall experience will be severely compromised.FromBRL 614

We arrived to our room being sweltering hot. In fact it was cooler outside than it was inside. I understand that with current fuel prices being so high, that they aren’t going to leave the air con all day anticipating our arrival. They offered us a pass to put into the slot so the air con wouldn’t turn off if we left the room, but with our room being at the top of the mountain. I did expect for them to bring it to our room rather than making us treck back down and up again. The room wasn’t clean… shower head was black with mould, when pointed out this was rectified. We upgraded to a room with a bath but couldn’t use it as it leaked and flooded the bathroom when using. We notified the hotel, they sent someone to fix it but no compensation was offered despite paying an extra 5,000 baht for this feature and only being able to use it once.
Breakfast is like a horror show. I can only describe it as horrendous. My advice is save your money and don’t add breakfast to your room rate. Baked beans were cold, French toast was a thin slice of hoavis stuck to the bottom of the metal warmer. Yoghurt had flies in it - the only thing mildly edible was the egg station. Staff at breakfast was incredibly rude… we asked for some ice and lemon for our water, slices of lemon were thrown down at my husband, again notified reception and nothing was done.
This is a Muslim hotel so no alcohol is served at the bar, not a big deal as they allow you to bring in drink from the 7/11 across the road but it’s not really advertised very well.
Pool is lovely and the pool bar staff were nice, the rooms are good and shuttle service was ok. We only had a one issue of it taking half an hour to arrive. It is walkable if you’re fit - unfortunately I couldn’t walk up due to illness so had to wait out the 30 minutes.
Location is good. Ao Nang beach is about 20/25 minute walk but there are free shuttles (one way) offered by the hotel when they feel like it, but Grab Taxi’s are cheap and easy to get. Ao Nang night market is brilliant and about a 15 minute taxi ride away.
Would say it isn’t really worth the money is and more like a 3 star. It could be such a great hotel with improvements. A bit disappointed with it considering it was part of our honeymoon trip and feel we were let down.FromBRL 278

Travelled in a family of 4 including two toddlers during early June.
Unfortunately our room was very wet, and no it is not because of the rainy season. Went to check out the rooms of my cousins, they are dry and fine.
To describe the wetness. Couch, bedsheet, pillow, every fabric you can touch is damp. The floor is constantly having a layer of water as if you wiped it with a very wet mop. Run a tissue across tabletop, it gets soaking wet in a few seconds.
Called the front desk but there’s nothing they can do and they did not allow to change a room.
Other than that everything else is great.

The Holiday Inn Resort Krabi Ao Nang Beach part of the IHG group, which we end up staying with for most of our trips was a solid choice. The hotel is conveniently located right on the main road, just a short walk from Ao Nang Beach.
The rooms are set a bit uphill from the lobby, but they provide a buggy service to help with luggage, which was very handy on arrival. To get down to the beach or restaurants you walk through the lovely pool area; there are plenty of elevators, though you still need to navigate a few sets of stairs along the way.
Breakfast offered a good selection of various cuisines (Thai, Western, Indian, and continental options), the rooms were clean and tidy, and they had a good system for replenishing drinking water every day. My ideal beach vacation means stepping directly from the hotel onto the sand, having loungers available, and not needing to lug a ton of stuff. This hotel completely delivers!
1️⃣ **Location:** It's on the easternmost side of Ao Nang Beach, and I honestly think it's the only hotel on the entire beach with its own beachfront loungers. You can literally be in the sea in 1 second – super convenient! Plus, it's only a 5-minute walk to the main street for dining. I recommend the Angel Gang restaurant; it's very authentic Thai and incredibly affordable. We paid about 120 RMB for a whole table of food.
2️⃣ **Ambiance:** The hotel has two swimming pools, both very clean. The service is generally good; any issues we had were resolved quickly.
3️⃣ **Breakfast:** Served from 6:30 AM to 10:30 AM by the pool. There's a good selection, though not very Chinese-oriented, but the ingredients are all high quality! A bowl of Tom Yum soup with noodles each morning is perfect for fitness enthusiasts!
Now, for some advice based on issues we encountered:
1️⃣ **Avoid the most basic room types** (they might be next to a smelly ditch or noisy outdoor AC units – steer clear of rooms 4206 and 4207). The pool access and sea view rooms are much better!
2️⃣ The hotel staff initially weren't very friendly towards Chinese guests, especially when we had requested a quiet room in advance and were still given such a problematic one. Thankfully, Ctrip helped us sort it out.FromBRL 682

We had a pool villa and everything was lovely! There are 2 things I would say were not ideal though, the first being the stairs to the pool villas were hard work! No lift option was available. The second, was the monkeys. We were told on check in to keep the balcony doors and windows locked but that was all. We woke up to around 7 or 8 extremely aggressive monkeys tearing the kitchen apart! They totally trashed the place and stole all our food. Luckily there was a door to the bedroom we could close because as soon as they saw us they charged! My friend had to use the umbrella to get them away. They came back about an hour later and even though the balcony doors were locked they stayed for an hour trashing the deck and trying to get inside. We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful resort in Krabi. We booked a pond-facing deluxe room, and the views were simply stunning — surrounded by lush greenery, a peaceful pond, and dramatic limestone cliffs that truly make this place special.
The cleanliness was excellent, and everything was very well maintained. What stood out the most was the front office team — always smiling, warm, and ready to help with anything. Their hospitality really made us feel welcomed throughout the stay.
The location is great — tucked away in nature for peace and relaxation, yet still convenient to reach places like Ao Nang Beach with the resort’s very convenient shuttle service.
Breakfast was awesome, with good variety and quality. Another highlight was the swimming pool, which is honestly one of the best we’ve experienced — very scenic and perfectly maintained.

It took about 40 minutes and 390 baht to get to the hotel from the airport using a Bolt ride-hailing service. The hotel room was very spacious, with enough room for two double beds. My kids very enjoyed swimming pool and the staff very touched having the bubble balls for them, i remember after we back to hotel while raining, them also serve us and pass umbrella, very friendly. B2 in Krabi, it means good price and good quality for sure! Clean room, clean shower, cozy design, nice swimming pool and what is important- is unbelievable great green mountains view ))) I never see anything like this before!
Nothing to say about breakfast because it was only wrap, but cappuccino is best in Krabi without any doubt.
Great thanks to manager and hotel team, especially professionals who work hard in garden and keep rooms tidy and clean.
If you are hungry there is real Italian pizzeria nearby, where we enjoy delicious dinner.
We would like to stay there much more longer because it’s quiet and beautiful hotel in the cradle of nature.FromBRL 88

Tub Kaek Beach Krabi Town|17.39km from downtown
The hotel has a beautiful location and the beach is truly excellent. The room was also comfortable and nicely designed. The staff are generally friendly and polite.
However, this hotel definitely does not meet 5-star standards.
There was no security or lifeguard at the pool or the beach, which is very concerning, especially for families with children. The staff are kind, but there is almost no proactive service. You need to explain everything twice and personally find someone if you need assistance.
Housekeeping was also below expectations. Towels and tissues were not replenished unless we specifically requested them. Nothing in the room was refreshed automatically. Even more disappointing, the WiFi was cut off immediately after we checked out.
One particularly unpleasant experience happened at the restaurant by the beach. I briefly stepped inside in my swimsuit just to call my child. I explained that we were leaving immediately to change and would return for dinner properly dressed. Instead of a polite reminder, I was told in a harsh tone that I had to leave immediately and that proper clothing was required. The way it was handled felt unnecessarily rude and unprofessional.
Overall, the hotel is nice in terms of location and beach quality, but the service level and overall management do not justify a 5-star rating.FromBRL 543

A lovely place to stay for a few nights in Aon Nang. The pool is very nice with many loungers and the room was modern. The hotel is located just off the main road with plenty of shops and restaurants around and just a five minute walk to Ao Nang beach. Our room was facing towards the main street and it was a bit difficult to fall asleep with the distant party music that eas playing.FromBRL 142

Ao Num Mao Bay Krabi Town|6.83km from downtown
It’s quite secluded which is why we picked it. It’s quiet and honestly a paradise. However if you want to do loads of stuff and activities you will need to get a taxi/grab/bolt everywhere, there is very little to do in walking distance and there are no paths to walk for the most part, so it really depends on what you are looking for. They have a small vehicle which goes to ao nang 4 times a day. Once in ao nang (20 mins away) you can get boats to Railay beach, or other islands. It’s busy and touristy in ao nang so the shellsea is a nice escape from this. 20 mins the other way is Krabi town which we preferred, with the mountain monument (highly recommend but only if you are fit!!). A grab/bolt here is about 180baht each way.
The hotel breakfast is lovely with coffees made to order. There is another restaurant which overlooks the beach and sea which is really nice too. The pool area overlooks the bay and is quiet and peaceful. Very well maintained and clean. There are lots of activities on at the hotel if you prefer to stay around the hotel such as Pilates, yoga, Muay Thai, kayaking, etc.

Honestly. Riverside hotel had a fairly good service. I did not like the first room they had given because it was not the one I saw and booked for (it on the first floor, last room on the corridor), they immediately found another room and relocated me.
The rooms are very old. The first one had mold and rust and it didn’t help that the window was facing a wall. But the location was beautiful and staff very friendly and helpful. As a female traveling solo, I felt safe and secure.FromBRL 69
