We recently stayed at Ibis Styles York Centre with my daughter, and it was honestly better than expected. The room was comfortable, clean, and surprisingly well-equipped — we especially appreciated having air conditioning, which made a big difference to our stay. The staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming throughout, always happy to help and making us feel at ease. Breakfast was another highlight: a great buffet selection with plenty of choice for both adults and children. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and great value for money. We would definitely consider staying here again when visiting York.

The hotel was a pleasant surprise and very impressive. Both the rooms in the new wing and the old building were very satisfactory – spacious, clean, and offered great value for money. Personally, I preferred the new wing; it felt more comfortable and modern. It's about a ten-minute walk to the old town, and York at night is even more enchanting, especially the hourly chimes of York Minster – absolutely captivating! The hotel is just a stone's throw from York train station. There are many restaurants near the station, including York's largest Chinese supermarket and various Chinese restaurants and a cha chaan teng, which was great for satisfying a craving for Chinese food or stocking up on groceries. The old city walls of York are right next to the hotel, and on a clear day, watching the sunrise or sunset from atop the walls is incredibly relaxing. However, the hotel charges £39 per day for valet parking, which is seriously expensive. They overcharged us once, and despite multiple attempts, they refused to refund it. This definitely merits a bad review!

Very comfortable stay. We arrived on 4 April. Greeted by a most helpful, friendly and polite receptionist. Location perfect, bus to York city centre was across the road from the hotel and ran every 10 minutes up to 11pm. The room was extremely comfortable with a comfortable bed, black out blind and the shower was very powerful. Breakfast was cooked to order with a variety of cereals fruit and pastries also available. It was a delicious breakfast and again the staff were very polite, efficient and friendly. I would most definitely stay here again.

Get off the train at York and literally straight into this fab hotel. A step back in time with beautiful lounges to eat and drink in. Stunning gardens. Beautiful feel of Xmas with stunning trees and decorations. The New Year's Eve main meal was lovely, but would give the starter a miss, valute not for us. More plus's than negative's. Garden view room was cold with old sash windows, but comfy bed and clean room. Lovely view

Stunning view from the third floor . Dated hotel which is undergoing a 5 year renovation which is desperately in need of . However can’t take away the view and the history . Bar is superb and breakfast is one of the finest I have had in many years of travel . If you want the Ritz this isn’t it but for a short stay in a wonderful throw back in time hotel this could be for you

1. Check-out Time Is Too Early In my experience, most hotels—whether five-star establishments or smaller boutique hotels—allow guests to check out around 12:00 noon. However, for such a large hotel with a rich historical background, the check-out time of 10:00 a.m. feels unreasonably early. It is particularly inconvenient for guests who wish to have breakfast, as the kitchen closes at 9:00 a.m., making the entire morning feel rushed. This aspect was disappointing and should be seriously reconsidered. 2. Luggage Storage After Check-out As a frequent traveler who has stayed in many hotels across different countries, I have never encountered a situation where luggage storage after check-out was not available. Typically, guests are allowed to leave their bags temporarily while exploring the city and return later to collect them. Unfortunately, this was not possible at this hotel. I found this quite surprising, especially considering the size of the property. As a result, I had to carry a large suitcase while visiting the beach and dining outside, which significantly affected my experience. This policy made me feel that guests are not sufficiently accommodated after check-out, and it was quite disappointing. 3. Room Facilities I understand and respect that this hotel is nearly 200 years old, and I have no issue with its age or character. Overall, the room facilities were acceptable; however, the water taps could benefit greatly from modernization. The current rotary-style taps are difficult to operate, requiring considerable force to turn on and off. This could be especially challenging for elderly guests. Additionally, when I entered my room, I noticed that water was already running slightly due to the tap not being fully closed. If the hotel were to gradually replace these taps with more user-friendly designs, it would not only improve guest comfort but also help conserve water in the long run. I believe this would be a worthwhile investment.

A very convenient location located within the city centre of York. There are numerous bus stops just located within 3 mins of walking making it very easy to travel to rail station or designer outlet. Moreover, there are numerous groceries such as saintsbury, Tesco and M&S foods. 10mins walk to York minister. It comes with complementary breakfast as well and it has many varieties and delicious. From the room you can overlook the Clifford castle as well.

The hotel has a beautiful location. The antique building has been kept in excellent condition. We chose to stay in the Feature Double Room-old Hall. The room was very spacious, with seating area. A coffee machine was also available. Cool drinks in the fridge. Breakfast was delicious, individually cooked, with a wide choice. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this hotel

An adorable hotel in York, I booked another night because we loved it and wanted to relax. It’s just a short walk away from the main old town Centre, wasn’t a problem even in the rain. Very clean and quaint decorations, love the 4-poster bed and the towel warmer. Also provides bathrobes, slippers and even a complimentary snack room. We could go grab some chips in the middle of the night if we wanted to. We didn’t eat, but we had some cocktails at the bar downstairs and coffee in the morning. Service is great.

Great value hotel with a classic style. The customer service was excellent. It's clean and tidy, and each bed has a curtain for privacy, which is a thoughtful touch. It's also conveniently located near York railway station.

BBonniegiftYork is a small city with history, and this hotel inherits the city culture. A separate British courtyard with a tall black gate. Friendly uncle-level receptionist. The hotel is a bit old, but well maintained. The room has a kettle, necessary toiletries, a shower that can be opened in multiple ways, and snacks. The hygiene is also OK, and the quality of the bedding is also OK. In short, it is a good experience

GGuest UserStayed one night because of the marathon the next day. The staffs were friendly and procedures like Checkin are convenient. Great location, close to the station and hotel. However, the inability of the air conditioner to heat up made the room less comfortable. But I stillI had a good rest here and set a PB in the race the next day, so it was a good stay overall.

LLouise HikkThe hotel is perfectly situated for exploring sights of Harrogate everything very nearby! From checking in and our room available early with welcome cookies which were warm and amazing to checkout the staff could not be more helpful! The room was on the third floor clean, tidy and well presented. The gym and spa facilities were all good and nice to use and relax especially on a Sunday evening! The breakfast was buffet with a selection of hot and cold options the parcel machine was my favourite fresh pancakes which were delicious! This hotel is huge but it's well maintained clean tidy and such an enjoyable experience for our anniversary!

GGuest UserI stayed at the DoubleTree by Hilton York for a short visit and, while the location was reasonably convenient, the overall experience fell short of expectations for a Hilton-branded hotel. I was upgraded to a room located across the car park from the main building, accessed via stairs and without central heating. Instead, the room relied on standing portable heaters, which wasn’t ideal — especially given the wet weather and the need to walk outside to reach the room. The room itself felt quite tired and dated, with noticeably creaky floorboards both inside the room and from neighbouring rooms, which made it hard to fully relax. The location is decent enough, but if you’re travelling by public transport there are better areas of York to stay in that offer easier access and a nicer overall setting. I didn’t try the breakfast, as there are plenty of good local options nearby, which I enjoyed instead, so I don’t feel I missed out. One small disappointment was that coffee wasn’t available outside of breakfast hours. Overall, with so many good accommodation options in York, I’m not likely to stay here again.

GGuest UserLovely welcome at reception. Really helpful with parking. The room was large, lovely and warm and had every thing we needed. The most beautiful setting for breakfast again with friendly and helpful staff. Loved the decorated Christmas trees. The hotel was in an ideal location for Bettys and the shops.

CchristanneWe booked a standard double as we only wanted somewhere to have dinner and lay our heads to break 2 long journeys.  We were prepared for a 'tired' looking room and it was, in fact just that.  HOWEVER, both the room and bathroom were spotless; the bed absolutely huge with nice linens and the shower in the morning was spot on for temperature.  Service from beginning to end was fantastic and, though I didn't have it myself, my husband said the breakfast was excellent.    We travel both locally and internationally a lot and i rarely comment as many 4-5* hotels just go through the motions however, I wanted to give this hotel and team a well deserved shout out.  We shall certainly be back and recommend to anyone looking for a very good place to stay on the outskirts of York.
