The staff of Olivean Shodoshima Yuhigaoka Hotel are professional and considerable. Their service are excellent, especially
1) The shuttle bus driver (morning shift strong man, forgot asking his name). When we arrived at Shodoshima Ferry Pier at 11:00am on April 7, we found a hotel shuttle bus, but not sure if it's the one of our staying hotel. We asked the driver if it's the one that waiting to pick us up. He said yes, but the hotel check-in time should be 3:00pm in the afternoon. He suggested us to have the sightseeing first and helped register the afternoon time for picking us instead. Also, he suggested taking our hand carry bags to the hotel front desk to avoid we carrying too heavy bags while travelling.
2) The lady staff (sorry for forgetting her name) at the lobby hall, who was very proactive. She came over immediately to help taking photos for us when she found we're taking a selfie. She also served us with free drinks for enjoying the sunset at the hall.
3) The staff at the reception desk are very professional. They helped us for check-in, explained the details of the time for meals, and provided all the information required.
4) The foods for dinner & breakfast buffet are very nice and yummy. The restaurant is clean and tidy.
Overall, Olivean Shodoshima Yuhigaoka Hotel is a very professional and comfortable accommodation for stay. We're pleased and feel glad choosing this hotel.
The location of the hotel is relatively remote, but the scenery is beautiful, the air is particularly good, the counter staff is friendly, the surrounding environment is beautiful, you can walk, parking is super convenient, the room is large
The room is spacious and comfortable, with wet and dry separation. It is rare that the hot spring hotel room is also equipped with a separate shower room. The hotel is relatively elegant overall, the hot springs are comfortable, and the banquet cuisine and buffet breakfast are also good.
The hotel is good and matches its price category. The rooms are spacious, new, and comfortable. The staff is friendly, and everything is automated – they've moved from physical keys to QR and PIN codes. If I'm ever lucky enough to visit Shodoshima again, I'd try to stay at this hotel once more.
Now, about why the rating isn't 5/5: if you're unlucky and get a room like mine on the 2nd floor, your balcony offers a wonderful view of the road and its traffic, which is a slight discrepancy from the photos. The balcony railings could also be lower. I understand safety comes first (especially with free drinks at the lobby bar), but the hotel emphasizes room views, and when you're sitting in chairs on the balcony, you're looking through a grate – which isn't very comfortable. The breakfast doesn't have the largest selection of dishes, but to be fair, each item is tasty and commendable.
I also visited the hotel restaurant for dinner. In my opinion, it would be better to change the menu to something they are masters at. The beef paella had well-cooked rice, but the beef itself was tough in places and generally quite bland. The burrata with fruit was drier than you'd expect, and there wasn't enough olive oil, salt, and pepper – which is strange for an island known for its olives. Perhaps they could add more, or provide salt, oil, and pepper with the dish so guests can season to their taste. The olive oil ice cream with salt and black pepper had the same issue as the burrata – it felt like the spices were stolen, yet they are the essence of this dish.
We stayed with 10 people. We were a little worried about finding a place to sleep, but we had no problem staying there, as there were enough rooms (about 4 rooms) and we could use the beds and sofa beds.
We also had a BBQ, but there was a BBQ stove and charcoal equipment, and we could rent it after we arrived and decided on the spot, so we didn't have to rent it unnecessarily. If I had to say something, it would have been nice if they had a camping lantern or a tall lighting fixture, as the lighting for outdoor BBQ at night was poor and the free rental lights were only small ones that couldn't light up the area well without some ingenuity.
Also, the location is great because it has an ocean view overlooking the Seto Inland Sea without any obstacles. I recommend arriving early and making arrangements to start the BBQ before the sun goes down.
Lastly, a drawback. It was mentioned in the accommodation guide that the road just before the facility is really narrow. It's only wide enough for one car. However, if you follow the instructions and enter from the back road, you can get in front of the entrance. I went in a Hiace with a wider ceiling and managed to get in. But the eaves of the garage are low, so be careful of the height of your car! I couldn't fit under the roof.
Kagawa Hot Spring Hotel is a big comparison. The average is about 1,500 yuan per night.
Kagawa Oedo, this one, and Hai のやどり (in the northeast corner of Kagawa)
Facilities: Indoors are average, and the scale can be said to be normal. Two single beds and a sofa bed, suitable for parents and children. Similar to Oedo, but basically outdoor: outdoor swimming pool, table tennis table, etc., singing k pay
Hygienic: relatively clean and tidy
Environment: The river view outside the window is in the mountains, and there is nothing around.
Service: Because there are relatively few people, there is a feeling of being valued. There is no feeling of fighting together in Oedo and the tour group.
Dinner: very particular, very romantic, is the order of the fore dish, main meal, dessert one by one.
Breakfast: It is also relatively rich and has a lot of options.
Hot spring: The place is a bit small, but there are few people, so it's okay. It's a small piece of indoors and a small piece of open air. It's definitely not as atmospheric as Oedo.
Overall feeling: The comparison of hot spring hotels is nothing more than the comparison of meals, indoors and hot springs.
The dinner at this house is still very good, the others are average
Three overall evaluations
Oedo: Meals 4 (too salty recently), indoor 4, hot spring 5
This: Meals 5, indoor 4, hot springs 3.5
Sea のやどり: Meals 4, indoor 3.5 (sea view plus points), hot spring 3
If the price is good and popular, the helpless is still excellent in Oedo. After all, the entertainment facilities are complete and there are theme parks nearby.
Going to the hot springs, it rained and couldn't come back. I met the hotel waiter in the lobby and took the initiative to say that she could drive us back to the hotel. Thank you so kind hotel staff.
