"I initially thought a 300 RMB hotel might be old and run-down. When I entered the lobby late at night, it was pitch black, but upon entering the room, I saw it had been nicely renovated. You could tell the faucets and bathroom door were older, but the room was well-maintained and very clean, comparable to a Hanting (All Seasons) hotel. The breakfast restaurant also serves as a lunch buffet. It's quite spacious, has a noodle bar, and offers a good variety of dishes, though it was a bit short on salad vegetables. Remember to go early; by 9:30 AM, not much was left. Most countries outside of China advocate for saving food. Kota Kinabalu city center is very small. Turn left when you leave the hotel and you'll find Holiday Inn, with Hilton and Sheraton across the street. The Welcome Seafood Restaurant street is behind the Hilton, and it seems like the Hyatt Centric (KK) is below the Sheraton. Convenience stores and KFC are just a few steps away, making the location very convenient."

"The hotel's location is excellent, with a shopping mall right downstairs. It's less than a ten-minute walk to Suria Sabah and Gaya Street, and only about a ten-minute walk to the Jesselton Point ferry terminal. Dining, shopping, and getting a taxi are all very convenient. The pool water is very clean. The room has all the necessary facilities, but the cleanliness wasn't great; there was dust on the nightstand. Also, toiletries weren't replenished in a timely manner. I stayed for three days and after using the bathrobe after swimming, it was never replaced. By the last day, I had no bathrobe to use. Same with the towels, but since I brought my own, I didn't bother calling housekeeping."

"First off, a shout-out for the great location – facing the sea, right next to Mankali, and very close to Imago. The hotel itself is quite large, but a bit dated. There were some basic issues with water and electricity; the shower water pressure fluctuated and sometimes there was no hot water. Breakfast wasn't very good. However, overall it's still decent value for money."

"Overall, I had a pleasant stay at Hotel N°5. The management was good, and the staff were helpful whenever assistance was needed. The surrounding environment was also nice and convenient, making it a comfortable place to stay. The room was generally clean and comfortable. The only minor issue was that one of the towels had a slight cigarette smell, which could be improved. Aside from that, everything else met my expectations. I would consider staying here again and hope the towel freshness can be improved in the future."

"The hotel's infinity pool was great, my family loved it, a real bonus. The breakfast was also quite substantial. The facilities are a bit old, though. The two 1.35m beds are perfect for families traveling with children. The price was a bit high for the summer. Our city view room was facing the street, and there was some noise from cars revving at night, but that's unavoidable if you're next to a main road. We were so tired we slept soundly, so it didn't really bother us. The location is excellent, not far from Gaya Street, and there's a large farmers market nearby along the coast, as well as Imago Shopping Mall."

"The owner is super nice and friendly. Even when we checked in past midnight, he still came downstairs to pick us up and helped with our luggage. He even prepared fruits and local souvenirs for us. He helped us resolve any issues promptly. The attention to detail was excellent; the hand soap smelled great, the hairdryer was high quality, and they even provided disposable toilet seat covers. All the amenities were also very new. He also recommended many delicious restaurants, and not a single one disappointed! I especially recommend Jing Wen Cafe. The location is absolutely fantastic, right on Gaya Street. All the popular influencer-recommended restaurants are just a two to three-minute walk away, and taking a taxi to various attractions isn't expensive either. The only minor drawback is that, being in the city center, you might occasionally hear motorcycles passing by at night, but the owner thoughtfully provided earplugs. Overall, it was a wonderful stay, and I highly recommend it to everyone!"

"We landed at Kota Kinabalu Airport on August 3rd morning and arrived at the hotel just before 9:30 AM. We were greeted by a front desk attendant near the office door. The standard check-in time is 3:00 PM, and she informed us we were early. When we asked if we could check in early, she actually found a room for us after checking – seriously, kudos to her! We had booked the flights at the last minute and then the hotel, so we thought, especially for peak season and at this price, the room might be subpar. But it was much better than expected. Pros: Excellent location. The hotel is within walking distance of Kota Kinabalu Central Market, Gaya Street, and Durian Street. If you don't mind the sun, you can even walk to DBKK Jetty (we took a taxi from the hotel lobby to DBKK Jetty for about 8 RMB, which is roughly 1.70 USD). The room was also quite clean; we booked a twin room with an exterior window. The hotel has a laundry room and a pool on the 6th floor. The washing machine and dryer each cost one coin, and one coin is only 10 MYR. Washing and drying together were cheaper than getting a single item dry-cleaned in China! The laundry detergent pods provided by the hotel also did a good job. Drying only took 50 minutes, and the clothes came out fluffy – it made me want to buy an LG commercial washer and dryer when I got back home. Cons: There was a musty smell from the elevator on our floor to the room itself, but thankfully, the room had no odor. On the first night, after hardly sleeping due to the flight from China, I slept very well at the hotel. However, on the second night, around 4 or 5 AM, I heard someone singing outside on the street – a solo male voice, and it went on for quite a while, so I didn't sleep too well."

Three days, two nights, and every day brought a new kind of 'excitement.' Day one, the air conditioning didn't work, there were tons of mosquitoes, and the shower only had cold water. The only decent thing for dinner was the fried shrimp, which disappeared in seconds, and the few other dishes available were practically snatched away. It felt like a refugee experience. Day two, we got a different room. After swimming, I went back to shower, and there was no water, then cold water, then extremely hot water, constantly cycling. The water pressure was also incredibly low; I almost lost my mind trying to rinse the shampoo out of my hair. That night, it was very windy, and there was a lot of noise outside, as if something wasn't properly secured. On the third day, as we were checking out, our luggage was mistakenly taken by a staff member and given to other guests. It was only returned after the other guests realized the error. Our luggage was perfectly fine in the restaurant; how dare you just take it away? Do you have any basic management sense? Of course, the environment is nice, that's the only highlight. Given how expensive it was during Chinese New Year, you should provide a service level that matches the price. The buffet was cafeteria-standard, and we still had to fight for food. Are you not ashamed?

Overall, the hotel is good, especially because of its convenient location near a shopping mall, making it easy to purchase daily necessities and other items. The breakfast café is spacious and offers a wide variety of food choices. However, there are a few areas that could be improved. While the breakfast selection is extensive, the taste of the food was somewhat disappointing and could be enhanced. In addition, the cleanliness of the room needs more attention. The floor felt dusty, as if it had not been properly swept or vacuumed. Guests who are not comfortable wearing the hotel slippers may notice the dust more easily. With improvements to room cleanliness and food quality, the overall guest experience would be much better.

This is the first time I've experienced ”wasting time” not as a derogatory term. Here, both your mind and the days slow down, not just because Tanjung Aru boasts the most beautiful sunsets, but because of every plant, every service within the hotel, and the meeting of the ocean with Shangri-La, which collectively created an unforgettable experience for us. I highly recommend the ground floor patio rooms, where the balcony leads directly to the lawn! You can witness one of the world's top three sunsets and the iconic Sunset Bar. I loved the peaceful mornings here, listening to the sea breeze on a lounge chair and watching seagulls glide over the ocean. In the evenings, there's none of the hustle and bustle of the public beach, only melodious songs, paired with a margarita, truly allowing time to slow down. I suggest staying for at least 5 nights; if you're lucky, you might even catch a unique event. The hotel's Chinese restaurant is highly recommended; it leans towards Cantonese cuisine, with prices being mid-to-high, but it definitely satisfies Chinese palates.

The water in the hotel's area is heavily polluted; it's so dirty that snorkeling is completely out of the question! The front desk staff were very perfunctory with guest requests and didn't follow through on promises. In the morning, we requested a private boat tour for island hopping and snorkeling. We discussed the time and itinerary with the dive center staff and finalized the price with the front desk. We even altered our subsequent travel plans for this. However, by 4 PM, we still hadn't received confirmation. When we called the front desk, they told us they couldn't arrange it. We asked several people, and got different explanations: first they said there were no boats, then that other guests had already been arranged for island hopping, and then that there would be a storm the next day (which turned out to be perfectly calm). I suggest the hotel improve its island hopping service. For those looking to dive, definitely don't consider this hotel! Also, the beach is incredibly tiny, barely palm-sized!

I had an amazing experience at this hotel. The rooms were spotless and very comfortable, expect the toilet is sharing and it's very dirty!. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. The location was perfect, and the view from my room was absolutely stunning — one of the highlights of my stay. Everything about this hotel felt high-quality, and I would definitely come back again. Highly recommend!

The location is great, very close to Imago Mall, then Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, and a bit further is the duty-free shop. It's about a ten-minute walk to the new pier, and Gaya Street is right behind it. Some other reviews mentioned poor soundproofing, but this is mainly due to external factors like modified motorcycle exhausts and traffic noise since the hotel is facing the street. I stayed here for one night as a transit stop after returning from Mount Kinabalu. I wore noise-canceling earplugs to sleep, so it didn't really affect me. The price was 220 for a twin room without breakfast, which might be a bit high for Southeast Asia. On the plus side, they offer free luggage storage. Overall, it's a pretty good place.

whats very good: Staff Service Excellent Easy access - down ladder - to sea whats good: good WiFi signal Rooms, Main Area, Jetty food - breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner - too much actually in-room fridge quiet rooms** 3 meals + tea included in-room snacks and soft drinks included what could improve: we expected total privacy - vendors in outboard motorboats and sampans kept approaching our unit when they see us sitting on the deck or swimming; they hassle us into buying stuff - from coconuts to live lobsters - and don't leave easily - we weren't interested in as we have meals and tea covered in our package. a boat with 2 sampans in tow always directly in front of our unit - eventhough approx 500-600 meters away - made us feel uncomfortable and invading our privacy No Emergency Protocols in place 7.9 or 8.2 earthquake with epicentre in Mindanao - across the Sulu Sea - there was no information or updates from staff on the situation - we were having breakfast when we felt the main area swaying when there were no waves we only got news on our mobile when back in the room we delayed our morning swim and went into water around 9.50 am. Had a few very strong waves hitting us. Asked a passing staff regarding the quake, he said no problems. after the swim we got news on our mobile that there was a Tsunami warning out and 0.4m wave could be hitting the shores of Semporna, Tawau and few other coastal cities of Eastern Sabah between 9.30am and 12.30pm 🤷🏾♂️ thankfully we survived to be able to write this.

The place is beautiful. The ocean and the beach are amazing. The hotel is seafront, a few steps and you’re swimming in the ocean. The rooms needs a lot of maintenance and deep cleaning, our room had many things need to be repair so, they gave us upgrade to a huge wood villa with 2 floors. The restaurant is ok… but no delicious. Breakfast is not so good but they prepare eggs as you like. The hotel needs dee cleaning and a lot of maintenance. They have places looks like abandoned.

All good! We chose a room with plenty of single beds. There were 5 beds, haha, perfect for families, friends, or even a honeymoon. The room was really spacious too. Just a heads-up about the water heater, you can't adjust the temperature; the water gets super hot! You have to mix in cold water to get it lukewarm. Overall, it was great. There's a kettle and a water dispenser right outside the room door. And the views? Right at Mount Kinabalu itself!
