Clean, with relatively complete facilities and it's also quiet. There aren't many toilets and bathrooms, but they're sufficient. Transportation isn't super convenient; it's about a fifteen-minute walk from Roma Street Station. However, there are buses nearby that go to Central and South Brisbane. Plus, there's a Coles supermarket right next door, which is very convenient for groceries and shopping.
I stayed at the Civic Guesthouse before I got a room in Townsville.
I felt that it was a really good place to manage.
I used a four-person room, but it was not very uncomfortable because there were several shared toilets and bathrooms, and the staff were all friendly ㅎㅎㅎ
I want to introduce you to my friends.

The counter staff is very friendly! Always answer all our questions with a smile!
We checked in around 20:30 this time and stayed for two nights.
There are different activities to participate in at the Youth Hostel every day! It is recommended to stay on the day of your favorite event!
My personal experience sharing:
1. The water in the bathroom is a little small, but it’s not a big problem
2. There is no storage space in the shower room, but there is a step to separate wet and dry areas. Remember to bring your own washbasin or something to wash in the bathroom.
3. The counter closes at 10 o'clock, so you can borrow a hair dryer before then.
4You need to bring your own lock to lock the lockers in the room, so remember to bring it!

Good location
Great amenities - free breakfast which was great and items were kept well stocked, music, pool, lounge area / terrace
Showers could do with a bit of updating and bath mats would be helpful
There were no hooks to hang anything from in our room which was really inconvenient
It's incredibly annoying having to fill out a form every time you check in.
You even have to take a selfie.
The owner seems to spend a lot of money on the hostel, so the quality of the accommodations is decent.

Clean public kitchen and swimming pool. The cleaning lady tidied the room very cleanly and quickly. It is very close to the public swimming pool, so you can just change your clothes and walk over. It is right next to it.
Great backpackers hostel that says exactly what it is on the tin. Receptionists were super friendly and had great knowledge of local spots and bus routes to get to places. Great social areas with ping pong/darts and surf boards to rent. Private room wasn’t the cleanest but better than expected. Bit bright on a morning but it gets you out of bed! Pool looked alright as well.
The service staff is very good. There is a shuttle to the bus station. Traveling into the city is convenient, just a 3-minute walk to the bus stop. Breakfast is provided. But every evening each day there will be a different meal served. The rooms are clean, fragrant, and the mattresses are very soft.

First of all, this is not a 5* Hotel and is not trying to be. This is a budget place to stay and with that in mind, I thought it was great.
The rooms were large enough, had a table and chairs, kettle, fridge, microwave, cutlery, the most amenities so far in 4 months of travelling.
On top of that, there is a modest pool and a large cooking area that has utensils which was really useful for us budget travellers.
The location is as good as we could have got, 30 mind walk to the train station and harbour, an hour walk from the airport.
The place also has parking.
Although
- it was a little dirty and rusty in places
- there were lots of tiny roaches which comes with the territory, but still worth mentioning
- there were 3 floors in our block, each with a toilet, our toilet was cleaned but no toilet paper replenished for the 3 days we were there
Overall a good stay. Lucky enough to have only 2 person in a 8-bed female dormitory.

Zzgl1332The room hygiene and service were both excellent, and the swimming pool was great too. The hotel is also very close to the seaside promenade, and the price was just right!
KKathhhA newly renovated hostel runs by Little Drifter in Cairns CBD area. Everything is quite new and well maintained, except for the washing machines (quite a few are broken and still waiting to be fixed, only 2-3 machines are working, both laundry and drying cost $6 each time so that would be $12 in total if you wash and dry in one go). Yet big shout out to the staff there, they’re all very friendly, responsive and helpful, and that really makes a huge difference.
The whole atmosphere in the hostel is really cozy and chill. I lived in a 8-bed dorm, everyone is really respectful and quiet, especially after 22:00 when the lights are off. Kitchen has everything you need so you don’t need to worry about anything. And for ladies who might need to blow dry your hair, you can borrow hairdryer at the reception by giving out your passports/driver licenses.
Regarding location, it’s definitely prime, everything is within walking distance. Woolworths is just next door, Esplanade and Lagoon are just 5 mins walk away, Cairns Central just 10 mins walk away. It’s definitely a really good choice if you’re new to the city and would like to have easy and fast access to everything.

GGuest UserThe staff were very helpful and welcoming. This wasn’t a bad stay by any means- just had a certain feel to it we didn’t like. The property itself has a really strong smell of old wood and beer, which is quite a lot to get used to. The rooms are decent sized, however did find that 7 rooms to one toilet and shower was a little hard to navigate at times. The toilet also constantly had the windows locked open which meant that people walking past outside could see in and be heard which is a little unsettling where privacy is concerned. The room itself had quite a few baby cockroaches in, and after looking found full insect traps in the room so suspect this may be an ongoing issue. The blinds over the windows were very loose also, meaning when laid in bed at night you could see both in and out of our room which was also slightly unsettling. Our room was equipped with a sink, kettle, and fridge which came in handy. The stay was okay and did us for the price, very historic and lots of images on the walls demonstrating so.
GGuest UserChecking system is shocking had to ring to obtain code for the Hotel and then for the room. The first codes given didn't work had to phone again for another lot of codes. There is no free phone for this service. All at the clients expense. Not a good checkin system at all. There were many other people experiencing that same problem GET IT SORTED
LLi asNomads Magnetic Island is fantastic! It offers a true island vibe with cozy sleep huts and plenty of outdoor space to relax. The bus stop right in front makes it easy to explore the island. The showers are warm and spacious. This is definitely one of the best hostels I've stayed in!
Kkaijie7038This hostel offers standard facilities, including a large kitchen. The rooms are small with basic amenities and air conditioning. The kitchen and bathrooms could be cleaner. The courtyard has a small pool and plenty of tables and chairs, making it a great spot for young people to socialize. My room's door lock was faulty and couldn't be fixed even after half a day, so I was moved to a different room on the second day. There was a mix-up because the power outlets were in different locations in the two rooms, and I couldn't find them at first. The staff and supervisor on the check-in day were very helpful. However, the staff member who handled my room change was quite slow and unhelpful. I had to pack all my belongings and carry all my bags to the office to complete the room change. I stood there with heavy bags while she slowly processed everything on the computer for over ten minutes. Just as I turned around to find a place to put my luggage, she said it was done. Then, once I was in the new room, I couldn't find the power outlets, which really put me in a bad mood.
SShanice HenawayStayed at this hotel for 4 night paying over $800. Plus had to pay $200 deposit.
20 mins after checking in and storing my belongings into the hotel room.
The manager had knocked on my door and falsely accused me of smoking ********* in his hotel.
Much to his surprise I was telling the truth and he apologized for the accusation.
Upon check out day. I cleaned the floors and all the rest of it. Took pictures for evidence of room when checked out.
Realised i hadnt been refunded my $200. asked for my deposit refund as it hasn't been put back into my account.
Manager denied paying me my deposit back and claimed that he had to pay his cleaners extra for the extra 40 mins they took to clean UNDER our beds. Which he never stated that would be a reason to withhold my full refund.
I left the room clean, no damages to property upon checkout, As manager instructed. I proved I certainly wasn't smoking ********* in his hotel.
Completed a complaints form about his customer service as he still refusing to give me my $200 deposit.
Will never stay there again.
